Acer scaling back WinMo devices to make room for Android

Acer, who entered the smartphone market this year, has launched ten phones so far: nine for Windows Mobile and one for Android (that would be the Liquid). Not too bad.

However, in 2010 Acer is looking to "balance" their offering, meaning more Android and less for WinMo (they will continue to offer between 8-10 devices).

No doubt, as the article points out, Android has a lot of momentum going behind it right now (cough, marketing, cough), so we can't really blame Acer for scaling back and going where the money is flowing.

Still, Acer is taking a nice, measured approach to the business and not biting off more than can chew.  Windows Mobile doesn't so much need more devices as a few really good ones--so we'd rather see a company like Acer concentrate on that latter part.

Plus lets not kid ourselves, while WM6.5 is a decent upgrade, it's really the calm before the storm that is Windows Mobile 7 late in 2010.

Let me say first that I am a Windows Mobile User and I am not changing anytime soon. I just still can't believe that Microsoft can not get in the game. They just can't put out great stuff until Apple or Google get prodcuts out there first. Late 2010 for WM7 is ridiculous seeing how there are already updates for Android.

Just like Windows 7 seems to be great (using it right now), but it took Apple years of pushing Microsoft to get it done (so tired of those commercials by the way, think it is time to move on Apple).

I dont like the back design of this phone ... the CPU is powerful and attractive though :D

definately agree on the marketing for android. I just left a verizon wireless store and there was droid crap everywhere. the 3 windows phones that they have on display, where in the back corner of teh store and facing the back wall, so that you have to walk around to find these phones.

where does this come from??? Is google paying verizon to have droid crap all over the store? or does verizon do this out of the good of their heart??

Apple does need to come up with some new commercials. The garbage they say now holds no water to win7. Win7 is awesome.

Just listened to the podcast and heard Phil say this exact same thing. There is no touch pro2 phone in the store and the imagio is buried in the back of the store. Now they are starting to push the storm2. Come 'on Verizon.

"Plus lets not kid ourselves, while WM6.5 is a decent upgrade..."

Who's kidding whom? For those already running a recent version of TouchFlo or TouchWiz, it's the upgrade that wasn't. Even on HTC's WM flagship, the HD2, attempts to bring 6.5 to the forefront, and there weren't many, only resulted in duplication and clutter.

And that's the problem - late 2010!?! How comfortable would WMExperts be telling it's readers to unsubscribe and not check back with the blog until late 2010?
