Toshiba TG01 on Orange

The 1GHz Snapdragon-powered Toshiba TG01 is set for its big coming-out party in London next week, and we learn that it'll be available on the UK's Orange network. Price and actual release date aren't known. But whatever they want for that monster processor and 4.1-inch touchscreen, we'd gladly pay it.

T-Mobile Touch Pro 2 rumored to be delayed

T-Mobile Touch Pro 2

Bad news for you T-Mobile fans waiting patiently for the HTC Touch Pro 2. TmoNews is citing an anonymous source in saying that release has been moved from July 22 to Aug. 12. Hey, you've waited this long. What's a couple more weeks?

TMN is still going with the July 8 launch date for the Dash 3G, as well as the $170 price point (ouch!) with a two-year contract.

That said, do remember that no actual release date has been stated by T-Mobile for either phone, so anything's still possible. Hang in there, folks.

Windows Mobile 6.5 seen on Motorola Q9h

Posted on Thursday, Jul 2, 2009 by George Ponder

We ran across this video of Windows Mobile 6.5 Standard running on a Motorola Q9h and it leaves us with more questions than answers. First, can you shoot a video any more out of focus?

The 2:41 minute long video first posted on Everything Q does show the Moto Q running Windows Mobile 6.5 by showing the "About" screen and we agree with wmpoweruser in that Windows Mobile Standard 6.5 doesn't look much different than Windows Mobile Standard 6.1. But we already knew that, didn't we.

Two things stand out here. The phone has Regedit and Documents to Go installed. Does this mean that WM Standard 6.5 is loaded with a registry editor and Documents to Go? Or were these two items added after the install? (The latter, probably.) The video definitely leaves you with more questions than answers, but we do know that there has been some work in loading custom ROMs onto the Q line. Perhaps things are farther along than we thought?

Skyfire updated, still can't play Hulu videos

Skyfire

While we were busy frantically trying to get Hulu videos to play, Skyfire went and updated the browser on us. Here's what's new in build 1.0.0.12113 for Windows Mobile:

  • Reduced Memory footprint.
  • History is presented in the proper order.
  • Cookies in the UK data center are handled more reliably.
  • Sharing links via SMS are handled more reliably.
  • Reconnect correctly loads the last page in history plus we’ve improved reliability.
  • Site specific issues have been resolved for Rooftopcommedy.com and thefind.com.
  • Zoom buttons behave properly and disappear after a couple of seconds.
  • Default browser setting works more consistently.
  • Text entry on Symbian has been improved with one caveat below.

Hit up m.skyfire.com to download the new build.

Hulu blocking Skyfire browser

One of the great reasons for using the Skyfire browser is because it could load just about anything on the Web, thanks to its proxy nature. No more. Hulu.com has shut out Skyfire (and the PS3, as well, apparently). As you can see above, you're greeted with the following message when you try to view a video:

Unfortunately, this video is not available on your platform. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Inconvenience? INCONVENIENCE?!?!?!? How will we watch our stories?!?!?!? (I'm at least getting audio out of the Firefox mobile Alpha 2. Anyone have any luck with any other browsers? IE6 Mobile?)

The good news for PS3 users it that there's a workaround. For us Windows Mobile types? Not so much. Might that mean a true Hulu mobile client, alluded to many, many moons ago, is finally coming?

Toshiba TG01 partying in London on July 9

Toshiba TG01 party in London

There's still no sign of the Toshiba TG01 getting any love in the United States, but one of the first Snapdragon-powered phones is sure starting to make the rounds elsewhere. Already released in Japan as the T01A, and appearing in a few other nations, an official coming out party is scheduled for July 9 in London.

We're still not totally sold on the TG01's custom interface. And we want to scream every time we see a touchscreen-only phone with icons that are smaller than a fingertip. But we're desperately wanting that 1GHz Snapdragon processor on a phone released here in the United States.

11 minutes of the T-Mobile Dash 3G

We've manhandled (or is it Mal-handled?) the Sprint Snap, we've see the launch of the Verizon Ozone, and now we're just waiting on the T-Mobile Dash 3G to round out the initial HTC Snap invasion in the U.S. Well, not everyone's waiting, as Noah from PhoneDog snagged an early Dash 3G a week or so before general availability. Looks like it'll be here on or about July 8 (we've heard later) for $170, or more than three times what Verizon's selling its version of the Snap for.

So, here are 11 minutes of the T-Mobile Dash 3G. And when you think about how long fans of the original Dash have had to wait for a follow-up, 11 minutes really isn't too much to sit through.

Your Project Pink/WinMo 7 rumor du jour

Posted on Wednesday, Jul 1, 2009 by Phil Nickinson

Microsoft's Project Pink

OK, it's been a little while since we discussed "Project Pink," the project that Microsoft swears isn't a Zune phone, isn't (necessarily) Windows Mobile 7 and might or might not have anything to do with that punky pop singer. (OK, we made that last part up.)

Here's the latest breakdown by ZDNet's Mary-Jo Foley:

  • Pink has an ad rep in the form of McCann Erickson, which also handles advertising for Windows Mobile. (Or not, depending on your view of things.)
  • Pink will be based on Windows Mobile 7 but won't look like the Windows Mobile 7 most of us are expecting.
  • Windows Mobile 7 should ship to OEMs about the time that WinMo 6.5 phones go to market. (We've seen that leaked and heard it from other sources, too.)
  • Pink's starting to sound somewhat like a tangential device, a la the Sidekick, and may have elements of the Zune, My Phone and Windows Marketplace for Mobile all wrapped into it. Motorola and Sharp have been rumored as manufacturers.

As for our take? Pink is still a genius codename in that we sound ridiculous repeating it over and over. Oh, and that whole Sidekick-esque thing could well be a pretty good bet. If it's given the proper UI (and WM7 for the rest of us better have one, too), and Microsoft throws some smart marketing behind it (and they seem to be doing OK with Bing), then Pink could well have a good shot at gobbling up some market share.

One day only: Unlocked Dash for $99

Unlocked Dash

Hard to beat this price. For one day only (the next 12 hours, actually), you can pick up an original unlocked Dash, which is being replaced by the HTC Snap. We know the Dash from its time with T-Mobile. But seeing as how this one's unlocked, it'll work just fine on AT&T. Could make a nice little backup phone.

Samsung Omnia II to launch (in Austria) with WinMo 6.5 in September, Microsoft says

Samsung Omnia II

The upcoming Samsung Omnia II is tossing another nugget onto the Windows Mobile 6.5 rumor pile. Microsoft Austria makes it known (in German) that the Omnia II will be available on the Austrian A1 carrier at the end of September.

So does that mean Windows Mobile 6.5 will be released globally at the end of September? It's certainly within the Windows that we've been expecting. Stay tuned.
