I still haven't installed Opera yet. Silly me. But Opera seems to be doing quite a nice job getting their browser embedded here and there. They're also on the Wii, you know. Anyway, let's hope Microsoft plays nice. After their Netscapecapades, I'm sure they will.

Opera Software today announced Samsung Electronics has signed an agreement with Opera Software to deliver Opera Mobile on Samsung mobile handsets.

Deepfish: Great Smartphone Browser in Beta

David Ciccone of Mobility Today posted a little video of Deepfish, what looks to be a nice little browser. It apparently makes it dead simple to zoom in and out of a webpage that's rendered in a standard way for a desktop, an implementation that is definitely compelling.

Now this has to be one of the most amazing browsers to hit Windows Mobile! Here is a little demo of a browser named Deepfish that is still in beta..This mobile viewer delivers a rich experience for viewing web content on Windows Mobile devices. It offers a quick and convenient way to browse the web that is closer to the desktop experience.” If I say anymore they will have to shoot me! Enjoy!

Cingular Announces UMTS in 160 Markets, Doesn't tell us which ones.

As Mobile Burn points out, you can go to Cingular's coverage map and zoom in close to see if you have 3G coverage. Alas, Minneapolis is not included. Next time, Cingular, just give us a list, hey?

Cingular has not posted a list of all of the covered markets, but you can use their online coverage map system to check whether or not your part of the country has 3G service. Once you are zoomed in on the map at the City level or closer you will be able to check the "Show 3G Coverage" checkbox to see if UMTS coverage is available near you.

YOWZA: HTC UMPC - the Athena

From the "Go all out or go home" school of thought comes the rumored HTC Athena, an Ultra Mobile PC / UMTS phone that is somewhere between a full laptop and a ..phone? I don't know exactly where to place this device in the spectrum of Windows Mobile devices, I just know that this is one hot mother.

[...] that beefy Windows Mobile PPC Phone Edition device is now rumored to be running on a 624MHz Intel Bulverde processor pumping away beneath a 5-inch, 262k-color VGA (640x480) touch-sensitive display. It's overall thickness is in part explained by the fact that it spins either an 8 or 10GB disk drive while a 2100mAh Li-Poly battery provides up to 6 hours of talk, 300 hours of standby, or 8 hours of WMV video playback.

More of This, Please: China to Standardize to USB for Cell Phones

Posted on Friday, Dec 22, 2006 by Dieter Bohn

The bane of the US is that our cellphones always seem to be step or two behind the rest of the world. I blame deregulation. I'm not saying I want a Communist dictatorship, but I do like the idea of having a single standard for charging phones. I have way too many wall warts (aka AC adapters) and I can never keep them straight.

China is moving to standardize all cellular phones sold in the country to using the USB port for charging. The thought is that having one charger for every brand of cell phone will make it easier for consumers. It will make it easier on consumers, but cut into the profits for he accessory makers. I would imagine that if China standardizes to USB, we will likely see all cellular phones going to the same standard. However, China has set no date at which they will begin enforcing the standard.

Cingular follows Helio, offers Mobile MySpace

I don't have much to say about this except that maybe if the designers of MySpace weren't so enamored of Flash and of horrible, horrible web design services like this wouldn't even be necessary. I actually have a sneaking suspicion the horrible design of MySpace is actually part of its appeal. "A website that freezes, is difficult to navigate, and is often so butt-ugly I weep blood? That how computers are supposed to work!" Or something. Pah.

And charging customers $2.99 per month for this, Pah again.

Cingular, the largest U.S. wireless phone carrier, will offer a version of popular Internet social network MySpace on its phones in an expansion of their partnership, the companies plan to announce on Monday.

For an additional $2.99 per month, customers will be able to upload photos taken on cellphones, read and respond to MySpace e-mails, update blog entries and view and search for friends from their handsets

Now that's a sight for sore eyes. The demo units for the Cingular version of the 750 have appeared over at the BoyGeniusReport. I recall reading that we ought not hold our breaths for the HSDPA update, but it'll be UMTS for the areas that support it. I'm rolling an unlocked 750v on T-Mobile right now, and I loves it. Hopefully that love will spread across the US very soon.

Seems like we could have the Treo 750 by Christmas or shortly after. Various Cingular stores have started to receive a Treo demo unit. The case is identical to the Vodafone Treo 750, even in color. Only difference being the Cingy branding. This demo unit only means that the release will be soon but we still haven't heard a date yet, just the broad "Q4" time frame. Trust us when we know, you'll know! At least for now you get to enjoy some pics. Click on for the rest of them

PCMag Reviews HP iPAQ6925

According to Sascha Segan, you can add the HP iPAQ hw6925 to the long list of YAQKWMS that tries very hard to do it all and ends up not quite doing anything well (Motorola Q, I'm looking at you). Its killer feature, as far as I'm concerned, is integrated GPS. That's "killer" as in "awesome" and as in "kills battery life." The 240x240 screen doesn't bother me too much, but then I'm used to it.

The new HP iPAQ hw6925 tries to be the ultimate traveling companion, bringing together an unusually flexible GPS system, phone, and PDA in one easily pocketable unit. But its small, low-res screen and below-average battery life make it less useful than it could be.

HTC Vox, no longer just a concept photo

I'd previously mentioned the HTC Vox when all we had was a concept photo. Now the Boy Genius, cellphone leaker extraordinaire, has an actual pic. It's much prettier than I expected. Other than that, it's pretty much the high-quality PPC GSM phone we've come to expect from HTC: WiFi, GSM Quad-band, MicroSD, etc. I'm still not sold on giving up screen-size for a standard number pad, but to each his or her own.

The HTC Vox concept photo has been floating around the net for a little while so I thought it was my turn to step things up a bit. I present the first live picture of the HTC Vox (S710) smartphone with complete spec sheet. Quad-Band EDGE, Spring-assisted keyboard like the P4350, WiFi and more. Don't ask me how, don't ask me why. Just enjoy! Thanks HTC!
