Diamond Accelerometer API out

Posted on Thursday, Jul 10, 2008 by Nick Gebhardt

monkeybalhtc.jpg There’s good news for you lucky folks who got your hands on the HTC Diamond. Scott Seligan had been working on a way to bring an accelerometer iPhone like app to the Diamond. He has managed to move a circle around the screen by tilting the device. He even managed to give the source code so that others can use it for new creations. What’s so hot about that? Well nothing at the moment, but it opens for development by other members. This could lead to games that act like the iPhone when playing them. Imagine the move and tilt effect on the iPhone, now replace that with a Diamond and viola!

In my opinion this is great for Diamond owners. If all goes well Diamond owners can enjoy the new race car and air plane games just like iPhone owners. Makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside when you see such a great Windows Mobile community hard at work doesn’t it?

That post is written like the Diamond community suffers from iPhone envy, when actually Touch Diamond owners, with access to the accelerometer, will be able to do things iPhone users can only dream of. People are right now developing apps which will allow one to answer and end calls with a shake, switch the phone on with a shake, scroll by tilting, skip to the next track with a shake etc.

Once again having an open platform will mean WM users will be able to do a lot more than Jobs lets iPhone users do.
