I’m sure most of you have heard by now about the new SDK (Software Development Kit) for Apple’s iPhone. The hype is that now anyone with some programming skills can now build custom applications that will run on the iPhone

As reported on our sister site Phone different, the iPhone is limited to one running application at a time, and 3rd party applications are not allowed to run as background processes. Obviously this severely limits the capabilities of many common programs since a single incoming phone call could terminate a Chat session or a file download for example. The limitation is odd and surprising because many current iPhone apps do work just fine in the background.

The assumption could be made that Apple will eventually provide a workaround for this issue. For now however, Windows Mobile looks like it just might remain the king of multitasking.
