Hotmail getting a revamp

One gripe we have had with Windows Live is that everything is all over the place. Instant messaging over here, email over there and nothing really in one core location. Windows live plans to make changes to that. The new Windows Live Hotmail Wave 3 is going to have things like a new UI, IM built into email (probably like Gmail), and an integrated calendar. Combine this with the fact that it’s free and isn’t charging you a monthly fee like someone else we know, makes Hotmail a little easier to deal with. We already know the Windows Live download is one of the best ways to get your email on your device, but are the new improvements to the Web version enough to get you to switch from the monster Gmail?

What we do know is that Microsoft has been in the game for quite a while now and we all are expecting them to get it right. Others have tried to join the cloud PIM game and are realizing it doesn’t “Just work”.

I love the fact that Microsoft is listening to its users and actually making changes we would like to see. I might just not delete my @live email after all. Only way to find out is to test it so stay tuned for updates on how our usage of the new Hotmail goes.

I switched from GMail to Hotmail (or Live Mail) back when the Hotmail Beta showed up. I've been extremely happy with it since then. The web front end (at least at the time I switched) was way better than what GMail offered. Real folders, context-menus when right-clicking, drag/drop, automatic filters, etc. Very AJAXy, very slick.
