How To: Remove AT&T-Ware from your Fuze (and others!)

Did you know that there is a way to get rid of the AT&T “bloatware” without having to install a custom ROM? It’s been making the rounds on several internet forums but I first discovered how to remove the “bloat” over at Xda Developers. You essentially prevent the Fuze from loading all the AT&T branded and trial software during the initial start-up or just after a hard reset.

The process is rather simple, though it does start with a hard-reset. After you align the screen and skip the tutorials you are prompted to tap “OK” to install customized applications. Immediately after you hit “OK” you perform a soft reset by just pressing the reset button. When the Fuze reboots, the installation of Xpressmail, Ms. Pacman, AT&T Mall, etc. are bypassed leaving with a little more memory and a lot less bloat.

Now, some of that 'bloat' is actually stuff you want. You will have to go into the Windows folder on your device and install TouchFlo3D (file name PTManilaReg .cab), Microsoft's Security File (file name MSFTSecurity.cab), Opera (file name WM6PPCHTCOpera9_WWE.cab), as well as any of the other programs that AT&T provides that you may like such as Sprite Backup (each application can be found in the Windows main directory as well). I may be imagining things but the Fuze seems a little more responsive with the “bloat” removed. The nice thing about this method is that all you have to do to correct it is perform a hard reset and let the customization go through.

This method only works with HTC touchscreen devices. It does not work on non-touchscreen devices, nor does it work on the Treo 750 or the Epix. I highly doubt it'll work on the LG Incite.
I tried this with my Sprint Mogul about 2 weeks ago. It had been getting REALLY laggy (more so than the usual SlowGul lagginess) and used my 700P for a little bit before I tried this to speed things up. I did the reset, switched service from my 700P back to the Mogul but data provisioning would not go through for some reason. I ended up having to hard reset and let the customization happen, let the phone do its data provisioning and hard reset the phone again like above and everything works fine. When I let the Sprint customization run, one of the things installed as it flashes quickly by is IOTA something or another, which I guess is necessary for its data provisioning.

Anyhow to make a long story short (too late), the Mogul seems quicker without Sprint's bloatware, although some stuff (Sprint Music for example) appears to be part of the ROM before running the customization.
Here's how to get Cingular Video working in Opera again:

In Opera, enter "opera:config" as the URL.

Scroll down, expand Proxy, and for the HTTP and HTTPS Servers, enter "wireless.cingular.com:80" and check Use HTTP and HTTPS.

Scroll down to User Prefs, and for Customer User-Agent, enter: "HTC-P4600/1.2 Opera/9.50 (Windows NT 5.1; U; en)"

That seems to do it. For PIE, I think the CAB in the Windows folder called "restoreHiddenProxy4CWS.cab" is supposed to fix it. For me, it makes device.home work (whoopty do!) but the cingular video pages come up as XML code.

How do i get Wikimobile Back on my phone because i cant find the cab for it ??
