Treo Pro Q & A: Removing the Battery Door

As people receive their Treo Pros the questions are rolling in. I just listed out my must-have apps, but there's plenty more to talk about here. What do you want to know about the Treo Pro? Hit us up in the comments and we'll hit ya back next week with answers.

I've received no fewer than 5 instances of the same question from folks -- folks who have the Treo Pro in-hand, mind you. The question: how the heck do you remove the battery door. The video above should help.

So what'll it be? What else can we tell you about the Treo Pro?

Thanks for the video Dieter! Now maybe I won't break my Treo Pro when it arrives! ;-)

When I first got my Centro, I had a hard time getting that battery door off. Now it seems like a piece of cake and I don't even have to think about it.
Just got mine. So far so good with 1500 contact sync using Outlook 2007/Vista WMDC. Interestingly I called Zagg regarding Invisible Shield as I am eager to keep from scratching etc. Since I was first to call and they are interested in providing a custom fitted shield they made the following offer: If I would pay shipping to them, If I could live without it for 3 days, They would pay expedited return shipping, Custom fit this as their first, and give me the shield at no charge. I was tempted, but wasn't brave enough nor willing to let it go. My question would be, whats the best way to Skin it up to protect from scratching and maintain the shinny newness and what's the best case so far. I am using my Krussel Side case from my Treo 750 which is too wide, but seems ok for now.
I have the Invisible Shield on my 750 and absolutely love it. Highly recommended. I did not expect much from it but it has far exceeded my expectations. I hope they get a Pro to measure soon.
As follow up question, in absence of Invisible Shield, I thought I would use my leftover 750 screen savers. Do you have suggestion for best screen protector in absence of full body shield? Thanks as always.
Wow! Sure could have used that video when I first got the darn thing! It is easier now...but my thumb still hurts!
I have not played with my Pro (Monday cannot arrive any faster!) and also I have never played with an unlocked phone before. My question is, to get it up and running in AT&T is as simple as putting the sim in... and that's it? Will voice and data be automatically configured to use the network?

Yup - when the phone boots up for the first time after inserting the SIM, it will autoconfigure itself and create several data connections - AT&T, ICS and Proxy - The default internet connection that it create, AT&T, uses wap.cingular which is the correct access point for device-based internet access. ICS (which is really for tethering) is setup for isp.cingular. Proxy is wap.cingular with the MEdiaNet proxy enabled. There's also an application on the device that allows you to toggle the proxy on and off (helpful if you want it for AT&T content sites but nothing else)
GOT IT! inserted the SIM and voila! Up and running... so happy :)

But man if this battery door is hard to deail with... no wonder the video from Dieter...

Don't even think about using an IS screen protector on a resistive touch screen PDA.

They're designed for capacitive hard glass screen iPods and iPhones, not delicate resistive film touch screens on PDAs.

Invisible Shield is too soft and grippy for use with a sharp stylus. It's meant to be slightly sticky to stop your ipod dropping out of your hand, and for use with finger tips, not hard stylii with sharp points. The stylus will be unpleasant to use because of the extra drag, and sooner or later it will dig in and mark.

Also the adhesive is far too strong, so you risk wrecking the your screen or touch membrane when you decide to take it off - even when using a hair dryer as per instructions.

By all means use if for body protection, but for the screen, stick to a low adhesion, hard wearing, fit for purpose laminate like Martin Fields or Brando.

Don't forget, their "free replacement" gaurauntee is for the shield, not for your device. Why take the risk?
I disagree - I've been using the Invisible Shield screen protector on my 750 for months and it works great. I was skeptical at first but I liked it better than any other protector I tried. No problem with the stylus "sticking".

I had a spare Boxwave Crystal 750 protector and it fits fine on the Pro, though I have to watch for the stylus slipping off the edge.
I've got the phone in front of me. I've watched the video a bunch of times. I tried to get the cover off for about 30 minutes, but no luck. I've pushed and pulled until my thumb is sore.

I tried Palm support, but was on hold for another 30 minutes.

Any other ideas?
Well, then it just popped off. Weird

I couldn't use the method in the video at all.

What worked for me was to put my entire hand on the back and the other hand on the front bracing the device. Then my hand on the back creates force in and up and voila the thing pops right off. No soreness required.

Thanks... the "whole hand" trick worked!

I have worked for Palm for many years but couldn't open this freaky thing, unbelievable!

You need to shout "Open, Sesame, Open, Sesame....." when you press on the case back.

My thumb was bruised from trying so hard to open it. I really think it is a zen thing. Try it again, holding thr phone with the battery facing up.

Index and middle fingers should be wrapped slightly over the top of the phone.

Thumb and ring/pinky should be on the sides of the phone.

Push the back of case from the bottom up towards your left hand fingers. I dont think you have to follow "the press firmly at the bottom left of the door " command. Mor elike pushing firmly on the whole bottom of the case starting above the "charger" piece.

This should be done with a "I dont care if you open or not" attitude

Hope this helps
I don't remove battery cover as they suggest in the user manual.
I put my Pro between my hands (as if I was going to clap), and then push up.
The cover comes off rather easy this way.

This is EXACTLY how I do it. I never could get the hang of doing it the "suggested" way, but the "clapping" method makes it easy with no stress! I more or less discovered this approach on day one with my Pro by pure necessity, else the Pro would have been retuned. :D

yes finally something that WORKS for me! this way is much more easier than the suggested way, my thumb is swelling and I had to cut my nails just to try removing the back panel using the suggested way.

In my experience the removal of the battery door gets much easier once it has been done a few times. I am guessinf the plastic wears down a little. Hopefully, this doesn't mean that releasing on its own down the road....

I received my phone yesterday, and I was ecstatic!! Finally it has arrived!!
I tried for 2 whole hours to get it open. When my thumb was completely red and sore I passed it on to my dad. I was thinking, DARN IT! I'm gonna have to return it!!
Warched the video many times, did it the exact same way but...nothing.
Today, I tried the palm method and....voila!! It opened!!
You guys saved my life!!

Thanks!!!

OMG, I was thinking how the heck am I going to remove this thing.....I seen your video and removed it in 2 seconds...LOL

Thank you!

Here I sit crying because I just can't open the back cover on my new phone, sob, sob.

Still crying palm trick is not working. HELP

Sob, shouting open sesame doesn't work

Thanks so much for the advice!!!! The "clap" method worked best for me :)
