HTC Touch Pro Gets Official

HTC Touch Pro

Also (better?) known as the Raphael, HTC announced the Touch Pro today. The specs are pretty much what we expected, which is to say they're very similar to the HTC Diamond with a few key differences:

  • 512MB ROM / 288MB RAM
  • No 4gigs of internal storage, but there is a MicroSD slot (better)
  • Slide-out Bluetooth keyboard
  • 1340 mAh battery good for “397 minutes” on 3G. 397 exactly?
  • All that goodness comes at a price, which is 18.05 mm of thickness. ...which is to say, just 1 mm thinner than a Tilt

Otherwise you're looking at the same awesomeness: AGPS, WiFi, 3.2mp Camera, 2nd camera, bluetooth, VGA resolution, sweet Opera 9.5 browser, sweeter TouchFLO 3D. Also, the same bad news: Dual-band HSDPA and Tri-Band EDGE, which make this another European/Asian affair. They'll be getting it later this summer, we'll be getting it later this year.

A PCWorld article, when they had a hands-on, says that its coming in August to "major world markets". I guess thats what late summer means.

Thats only 3 months away :D although I have now heard it does not actually tilt :(

I'm not too worried about the screen Tilting...seemed kinda gimmicky to me. However, what do they mean by a slide out "bluetooth" keyboard?

Also, is this for sure coming to the U.S. later this year? If so, I'm definitely picking one up to replace my aging 8525!

Interesting about the dimensions compared to the 6800:

6800:
4.33 x 2.32 x .72 inches

Touch Pro:
4.02 x 2.00 x .71 inches

So it shrank by height and width but the thickness is basically the same.

Battery is a nice 1340 mAh though, so that should help power that VGA screen.

That's a typo. HTC says "Slide-out 5-row QWERTY keyboard".

They went the opposite direction of the Macbook Air - small and thick instead of wide and thin. Its still 20% smaller in volume, and I guess by reducing the other dimensions it makes the screen look bigger. In fact I think its smaller than even the HTC Diamond in height and width.

Yeah, it seems a good trade off as long as the "thin nazis" don't catch wind, lol.

The Diamond and Pro are the same for H x W. Just obviously in T do they differ (.71 vs .45 inches)
