Internet Explorer ‘6 on 6’ on cooked HTC ROM

We’re still expecting an update to Internet Explorer 6 for Mobile — the fabled "6 on 6" — in the coming months while we wait for the eventual release of Windows Mobile 6.5 and Windows Mobile 7.

But in the interim you lucky ducks who have HTC’s Touch HD can go ahead and get in on the, er, newness, thanks to a custom ROM brought to you by the folks at MoDaCo. However, none of this is all that new. Folks have been putting this version (8.12) of IE 6 for Mobile into cooked ROMS for a while now with help form XDA Developers. The standalone files are available, but they can’t just be loaded like any other program.

For the rest of us, we’re still betting that IE 6 for Mobile and all of its new zoomy goodness will make its official debut on the Sprint Treo Pro. Or, ya know, you could use the Opera 9.5 beta and get pretty much the same (or better) experience now.
