Pandora slowly growing on Windows Mobile
If you haven't yet used Pandora to listen to music, chances are you’re either: A. Living under a rock. Or, B. A die-hard Windows Mobile user.
For the uninitiated, Pandora radio was born on the Internets as a Web-based service. You give it the name of a band, song or composer, and it works up a playlist that, for the most part, doesn’t suck. (Don’t hold us to it, though. YMMV.)
Anyhoo, we’ve long enjoyed Pandora on our desktops, and iPhone users have had it for a long while now. (Check out The iPhone Blog’s user-submitted Lightning Review.) But it’s never really been available for Windows Mobile.
Until now. Sort of.
Officially, a good number of AT&T feature phones and more recently the Windows Mobile LG Incite have had access to Pandora. Ditto for Sprint and the Motorola Q9c. But that hardly runs the gamut of Windows Mobile phones.
The good news is that this problem has been pondered by the folks at XDA Developers (of course) for a while now in this thread. There’s a .CAB file available in post 79 and a new one for QVGA Portrait devices in post 146.
XDA members report semi-successful (if that UI pic above is any indication) use on the HTC Touch Diamond and AT&T Fuze, as well as the Epix and Tilt, though some users are reporting that this is just a trial version. Obviously, this is still going to leave a large number of people unhappy (I was a no-go on my Q9h), but it’s a start.
If you get it working on your phone, let us know in the comments.
Update: There’s apparently another .CAB file floating around at EverythingQ.com (this one worked on my Q9h – Thanks, Scott!), and dannzeman notes in our comments that there’s one over at ppcgeeks. Thanks, guys!
