htc event

Here's what we know: HTC has something up its sleeve and intends to show its cards on May 6th in London. We also know that Android (despite the fact that it runs on top on Windows Mobile already) will almost surely not be ready. Engadget Mobile speculates that we might see an update to the original GSM Touch, which is woefully underpowered compared to its CDMA brethren. That's certainly a distinct possibility, but we're also betting that the next-gen TouchFLO will also get unveiled. It's code-named Manilla and it looks pretty nice.

HTC: TouchFLO is good stuff, but we'd love to see some sort of UI magick on Standard Edition, too. Get on that, will ya? Thanks.

Will anyone for WMExperts be at the event?
Sadly, no. It's in London and that's not a cheap flight. Also, I traded Kevin's help at CTIA for my help for him at the BlackBerry event WES.

...Also, no invite love from HTC. Maybe they're mad at us about the whole video driver thing. Ok, not really.

If somebody wanted to pony up a free ticket from Tampa to London, I'd go. ;)
I hope your prediction comes true. I own the GSM Touch enhanced, and while I'm the most part satisfied, it does have it's limitations. It's not really up to the task for running Skype, even with overclocking and a version of Skype rated for lower power processors. Video playback is problematic as well. Both issues would benefit from a processor boost.

There's also the question of the 320x240 screen. QVGA was so last year even last year on high end mobile devices. Let's hope that a advanced chipset will translate into more pixels. Even a diminutive device like the Touch could accommodate a larger screen if the HTC ditched the front face buttons.

AGPS? I hope so.

A real RCA-type audio jack? I hope so.

Of course, all this would compete with the Touch Cruise. In my opinion however, no great loss; I find the HTC Touch Cruise a rather ugly device.

Dieter, how you checked with HTC to see if they're are going to webcast the announcement?
Good idea, pelona, I'll check. I tend to doubt it, though, I don't believe they've ever done so in the past.
No invite love, eh? Well, this site's becoming more and more influential... I'm sure in the next couple of years, they'll be begging the crew of writers here to speak at CTIA ;)
They will surprise us with the graphics drivers for the Tilt (TyTN II) ?
LOL
Hmmm,,,,,, surely they wouldn't make to big a deal about releasing a better GSM Touch. I hope it isnt some magic version of TouchFlo either. I cant stand the touchflo technology. Swipe you finger to move to the next picture. Its easier to just hit the 5way to move a pic. I think the finger gesture business on the ipone is silly also.

I hope its an announcement that they are going to release a device that has all the power of a TyTN II in the body of a Dash!!!! Now that would be something!!!
