HTC TyTN II to get "improved graphics driver". Branded devices (AT&T, etc.) and others need not apply?

MSMobiles is reporting from a reliable source that the HTC TyTN II (aka the "Tilt") is scheduled to get a new ROM update that will include "...improved graphics drivers and will offer improved performance".

What is more exciting is that this update is planned for this month and possibly even next week. (For those needing a refresher on the topic, click here for past coverage).

Yowzers. Though, fyi we're taking this with a huge grain of salt, so don't get those torches and mob ready just yet.

The potential bad news? This is only for unbranded HTC TyTN II devices, meaning the AT&T Tilt won't be included, for whatever reason (we're betting it has to do with this: money and who pays).

While unfortunate and inconvenient, at least it may be possible for the prominent hacker community to rip the driver for those unlucky owners of branded devices. Stay tuned.

However, what may be even worse, if true, is this quote from MSMobiles:

HTC is not not (!) preparing in near future updates for any other phones that might have these graphic issues.

Probably not what anyone wants to hear. Hopefully details will follow as pressure mounts on HTC if any of this pans out to be accurate,

We'll await for an official HTC response though for our final judgement.

If this winds up being true, HTC will have a lot of pissed off Touch owners, myself being one!

Their going to have a lot of pissed off Tilt owners too, me being one of them.

I would not worry about the Tilt. I have a Tilt and I'm not worried at all. I know there will by a custom ROM out the next day for the Tilt over at xda developers. For the Touch and other HTC models, a custom ROM will follow a few weeks if not days later with the graphics improvements.

That's not really the point now, is it? Regarding ROMS, it is not always the case that they are stable for the device you install them on because of the hacked nature of the code.

Is any one really surprised about the update not being available for non-HTC branded devices. In the U.S., HTC customer is not individual users, it's the carrier cartel. The update will be offered to them to distribute or not distribute as they see fit. It just how business is doone in the U.S., unfortunately.

and yet 75-90% of the "pissed" tilt, touch, mogul etc etc users will be back for the Diamond/Raphael and its vga/3d goodness. its all just a vicious cycle

Not me, I'm going to hold out for APX 2500 equipped gear

What about people using an unlocked Tilt? Should they be able to use the new ROM?
