Windowsmobilecool.com is reporting that Motorola has designed a heavy duty, personal computer they're putting in the Ultra Mobile Personal Computer (UMPC) class, bearing the code name VC6096. Don’t know exactly how rugged this computer will be but it will support a wide range of connectivity options including WiFi, 3.5 GSM, HSDPA, WWAN, Bluetooth and SiRF Star III GPS. Under the hood will be a 624Mhz processor, 128mb of RAM, 256mb of internal flash memory, SD memory card slot, hot keys, a microphone and internal speakers.
Ruggedpcreview.com adds that the VC6096 will sport a 6.5”, 640x480 touch screen, and weather sealing. The unit measures 9.5x9.25x1.95 inches and weighs a paltry 4.85 pounds. No pricing or release date information was available.
It is expected that this computer will primarily target the transportation industry and other fields where mobile computing and connectivity is a must. How does this tie into WMExperts? The gem will use Windows Mobile 6.1 as its OS and although it's not a consumer-focused device, it is another example of how Motorola (and Symbian) are doing a pretty good job establishing Windows Mobile as a 'worker's OS.' Comrades, does not the VC6096 interest you?
