Via my post at TreoCentral, check out this quote from the Palm Blog:

There's been a lot of buzz about the new device our friends across the "pond" are planning to announce on September 12th...and it's not the Palm Centro smartphone!

The linked article is a sad on again, off again history of speculating on a rumor. At least there's a happy ending: my original guess seems right, it won't be the Centro, it will be the Gandolf. Vodaphone will most likely be picking it up (see that logo up there on the pic?), and it's most likely going to be a smartphone-edition version of Windows Mobile 6. Palm's enhancements on the other Windows Mobile Treos are great - threaded text and photo speed dial a smartphone-edition WM device? Sign me up.

Heck - I may have been right about it back in June with Palm Gandolf Specs: Believe it:

  • Naming convention will be Treo 5XX
  • One version with Windows Mobile 6 Standard, the other is a new non-touchscreen edition of the Palm OS
  • Multiple colors
  • 135 grams; 117 x 65 x 13.8 mm
  • 2.4 inch QVGA screen with 65k colors
  • 2 megapixel camera
  • Bluetooth 2.0 w/ A2DP support
  • 3G + HSDPA
  • 256 MB onboard memory with 64 MB of RAM

Can someone please remind me why this is anything but boring?

Heh. Well, it is sorta boring, yes, but at least it's something new from Palm - a non-touchscreen device that will hopefully have some good UI improvements over the Standard Windows Mobile 6 ...Standard interface.
