Palm releasing a CDMA version of the Treo Pro?

File this one under "rumor" and a very hopeful one at that but Cens.com (a Taiwanese news economic news site) is reporting that fellow ODM partner HTC is working on a CDMA version of the Treo Pro for Verizon and/or Sprint:

Furthermore, Palm is planning to launch CDMA (code division multiple access) version of Treo Pro series phone in the future for CDMA telecom service providers, like Verizon, Wireless and Sprint. The phone will also be supplied by HTC.

There has been some other rumor-mongering that Verizon has canceled their planned roll out of their Treo 800w. Reasons are murky ranging from "it could not pass carrier testing" to, you guessed it, they are awaiting the Treo Pro.

Perhaps. Though without any real evidence we'll just have to sit back and see what happens.

Though considering the general warm welcome the Treo Pro has received so far, it would appear to be a good idea to get a CDMA version out ASAP.

Thanks gfong!

Probably once Verizon saw the Pro, they pressured Palm to get it on CDMA as that would give them something other than the already-on-Sprint 800w. Verizon has been a little behind on front runners lately.
I just received my Treo 800w. While the Pro has a crappy keyboard (800w's is better), it beats the 800w in battery life and a 3.5mm jack. If it comes to Sprint anytime within the next year I'm going to be pissed.
@kasracer,

the future of smartphones is going to mean faster turn arounds on devices. it used to take 2+ years before Sprint, etc. would get a new WM device (and they used to just have 1); now we have many choices and more frequent updates

afterall, the HTC Touch came out in Nov '07 and the Diamond is coming out, what next week? Same with the Mogul (Jun '07) and the slightly longer Fall '08.

it's all progress, baby! I'd rather have more devices, more frequently than not. if that burns some people, that's too bad but we have eBay for a reason ;-)
As a Telus Mobility Canada user we can only hope Telus will make the Treo Pro available in Canada
Don't hold your breath...and if you're on Verizon I'd doubt you see it before Sprint does.
