Sprint finally responded to the brooha of confusing and contradicting information floating around regarding reported plan changes. They state rather unequivocally that they have no plans to change requirements for those lucky enough to have SERO accounts, regardless of device type (pda, smartphone, etc.) and they won't be changing that in the future.

Phew!

“SERO customers continue to be able to purchase PDAs and Smart Phones and a variety of SERO rate plans continue to be compatible with these devices.”

So get back to work or rest now. All is clear and good on the Sprint front and you may continue to allocate money for the Treo 800w in...11 days (squee!).

Unless you have other information, Mal, I'm not so sure all is well and good.

Yes, we can still use an 800w on a SERO plan. But, what about an increase in new SERO plan rates? Are they really doubling on the 10th (three days before our beloved 800w is set to hit the streets)?

Many folks are waiting to sign up for new SERO service to get an 800w. With this rate hike yet-to-be-debunked, it looks like waiting until the 13th will double your monthly bill, no?
MinistrOfJustiz,

lol, please don't say that! I hadn't heard this latest morsel of Sprint rate hikes and will have to look into it.

If needed, I'll update this article.
That was part of the rumor that I think got lost, initially brought to light in HowardForums as fgkay pointed out. In that discussion thread, self-purported Sprint employees say that the SERO plan will just be a small discount on the regular Everything-Plus plans that non-SERO customers can get.

Anywho, I'm too risk-averse to wait. I just signed up for a SERO plan and I'll do a phone exchange for the 800w.
