Verizon Likely to Carry the Treo 800w, Possibly in October?

Let's be honest here: when the Verizon 700wx received an inexplicably late update to Windows Mobile 6 last week, you were likely filled with an unsettling admixture of glee and fear. The optimist in you said “There must have been some mega-corporation that uses the 700wx and needed this update.” The pessimist (when he got done wondering why it was WM6 instead of WM6.1) said “Verizon has to get the 700wx up to WM6 because they took a flier on the Treo 800w.” Despite Verizon sightings and leaked presentations, deep down you suspected that the big V might be willing to ignore the Treo 800w.

Well, stop that, stop it right now. Our new BFF Scott decided to quash that feeling and started chatting up Verizon reps. With the tenacity and rhetorical flair of a consummate debate king, he managed to get a rep to break from the standard script and admit that, yes, a new Treo is coming in the next month or so, and yes, it will be the 800w.

Scott, however, knows that your standard Verizon representative is a wily character, capable of guile and, yes, even lies. So he confirmed it twice more -- three separate reps verifying that it's due within “a few weeks” to “a month” and that it will definitely be the Treo 800w, not the rumored CDMA version of the Treo Pro.

If it were released next month, that would account for a 3 month (give or take) exclusive with Sprint, a time period that seems like the natural length for exclusivity.

So take all that for what it's worth, but we at WMExperts are firmly moving the Verizon Treo 800w into the “very probable” category. October should be a fun month. Meanwhile, big ups to Scott for doggedly pursuing the truth and to all three loose-lipped Verizon representatives, who showed that they can leak about everything, not just the BlackBerry Storm.

Thanks for the update, it at least gives us hope!!!!! :D

(Now if only A_C's S2 apps would work on the 800w!!!!)
I *hope* this is true...if so, it might bring more accessories to the market. Right now, the selection SUCKS!

+1

Still; wouldnt you think that if Palm knew VZ was picking it up they would be releasing accessories now to make it a more attractive option?
It's true, I got the information volunteered from three different chat reps on VZW's site so unless they all have the same wrong information, it's true.

Bout damn time too...
I'll believe it when I see it, I have seen too many reports that state it was to come to Verizon and have yet to see it. I'm looking forward to getting one once it does come to Verizon. I will never understand why all the new things go to Sprint when they have the worst network.

My guess is because VZW is working on crippling certain features of each device while all Sprint does is throw on some of their crapware and release it...

I guess it depends on where you live and travel to. Around here Verizon is the absolute worst.:D
Well, if it's any possible sign, the Treo 700wx is now advertised as "while supplies last". Probably just wishful thinking on my part. But I imagine it's gotta be replaced by something.

I see what you mean, I have seen them do this before and then 'restock'!! I also noticed they removed the Samsung i760 totally (I never liked the form-factor of that one)

Here's hoping!!!!!!
I, personally, was hoping for no 800w and a VZW Treo Pro. So much for reason. Should have known.
I want a new phone SOO bad and have been waiting patiently for the 800w, but I am not sure how much longer I can hold out. I worry about verizon taking away the Wi-Fi because they love their data package so much. I also worry about them taking away the GPS because they are big on their Navigator. I guess only time will tell. I wish I had more information on this upcoming phone!

I wouldn't worry about the WiFi as the have left it in tact on th VX6800. After 6 months using the it I had never had an occassion to use WiFi but that is just me. I don't think that you have a prayer on the GPS though.
My 700wx that I bought 2 weeks ago went back last Friday on the hope that the 800w would appear in the next month. I am back to my 700w in the meanwhile.
I'm not very optimistic. All information pointed to a 3Q release which ends in one week. I've heard the cdma Treo Pro will be worth waiting for if for no other reason than the fact that its battery life is much better than the 800w which apparently sucks big time.
When is the CDMA Treo Pro supposed to be out? The only information I have seen points to GSM only on that phone. I dont see them coming out with a CDMA version anytime soon or at all. But I could be wrong...I usually am :)

I highly doubt we will see a CDMA Treo Pro. With the 700 series you had the 700w/wx both CDMA and the 750 GSM. The Treo Pro was formerly (until release) known as the Treo 850, thus a GSM version of the 800w . . . Just like with the 700 vs the 750 the GSM version is a nicer phone in terms of looks, etc but is otherwise the same thing as the CDMA version. Also, if Palm did make a CDMA Pro it would cannibalize the 800w sales.

Now, eventually I could see having a "Treo Pro" that comes in both CDMA and GSM flavors, but that would be the next gen ones.
I think it makes more sense to have only the GSM Treo Pro. Outside the US, there are not a lot of places that uses CDMA. The GSM Pro can be used everywhere in the world basically. Why bother to make another unlocked version that sells much less.
Palminfocenter.com and others are reporting that a cdma Treo Pro or combo GSM/CDMA version is in the works and that Palm has apparently contracted with HTC to build the machine.

I guess only time will tell.

Actually, we ran that story first and it all has one source: unnamed

There is zero hard evidence for a cdma Treo Pro right now and none that Verizon is working on it.

It's all conjecture and very, very likely Verizon is getting the 800w soon.
Well According to BGR the 800w is supposed to come out on Oct. 12th for Verizon. That is the new recent news. I sure hope so because my patience is wearing thin. When/if Verizon comes out with a CDMA Palm Treo Pro I would love to see that compared with the 800w.
One thing that I dont understand is why Verizon is hyping up this Blackberry Storm so much and it isnt even out yet. If the Palm Treo 800w is supposed to be out on Oct. 12th why dont they hype that up? They really should put the phone on their site and say coming soon or something.
Well According to BGR the 800w is supposed to come out on Oct. 12th for Verizon.

lol, actually that was according to our WMExperts/TC article and from these very forums and users ;-), give some credit to them for their work on this! lol
I just checked over at VZW again, and not only is the Samsung removed from the site, and the 700wx has a status of 'While Supplies Last" but now the Verizon Wireless SMT5800 is labled "Out Of Stock"!!!!!

Some big changes are just around the corner...they can't be removing and/or limiting three different WM devices for JUST the Storm!!!!!
I def agree. What I dont understand is on BGR they have the sneek peak at the Verizon data sheets of when the employees have to have training completed by so they can support the product (The new Blackberry storm and the other phone). How come we never saw any of these for the 800w for Verizon? I still have my fingers crossed on the Oct. 12th release date.

On another note, is it typical for Verizon to release a phone on a Sunday? That just seems weird to me.
Here we are less than two weeks away from the "Oct 12" release date and we have heard nothing. Too quiet. Shouldn't we be hearing some rumblings? Why does VZ & Palm want to keep the release date a national secret? Shouldn't they want to build up some hype?

I agree 100%! VZ loves nothing more then to hype their phones up. Especially if this phone is going to compare to the palm treo pro, they really should start getting everyone excited. I hope they don't dissapoint me/us.
I am starting to have a bad feeling about this. I think that verizon is intentionally leaking a completely made up date (oct 12) to keep people from going over to sprint. They probably did the same with the rumored september date as well. In reality, there is no new treo coming. They are probaly waiting until next year, and the pro, but are going to keep spreading lies, so those of us who are on a 700wx, and want to upgrade, will not move to a different carrier.
Please don't take this the wrong way anyone:

I am by no means one to defend VZW, and I am just as eagerly awaiting the 800w as anyone else in here, but to be fair, VZW has not really 'teased' us with anything, or mislead anyone, all these things we find as 'proof' are either nothing substantial, or leaps of faith on our parts over things not meant for us to see. As many (including me) have stated in the past, until we see it.....

As far as VZW 'touting' a new acquisition, you would think so, but I see a lot of things added to their site with little or no knowledge, so I don't thing that is any indication....how much have we heard on the Storm?

All that being said....."Come on VZW.....GET WITH IT!!!!!!!" LOL
Well I think that I have come to the conclusion that if Verizon doesn't get the Palm Treo 800w on the rumored Oct. 12th release date (and have heard no other word) then I am changing to a GSM carrier and getting the Palm Treo Pro unlocked. What GSM carrier would you recommend? I have been with Verizon for about 7 years. I live in Illinois also if that matters.

WOW....GSM? The only two I know of are T-mobile and AT&T (not sure about Cricket), but I may be wrong on that!! Of the two though, and your geographic area may have an impact on this, I would go with AT&T!!

Personally, with all my friends + family with VZW, I couldn't afford to switch, so I will hold out with my trusty 700wx as long as possible untill VZW picks up the next gen Treo or my wx dies and I get the next best one they carry!!! But.....if I was to switch, I would go with Sprint and get the 800w instead....it is basically the same (barring physical form) as the Pro, and you can get it at the new contract pricing!!!!

Good luck, I really hope you stay with VZW!!!! (just being selfish there....you staying with VZW will mean they picked up the 800w LOL)
haha...I have done some extensive research and I have come to the conclusion that VZW has the best coverage (especially for my area) and with all my friends in my area having it, I can really cash in on the "in network" calling and texting. Although, they really do butcher the phones. On the other side (I know I'm going back and forth) they have CDMA which IS better technology than GSM. So CDMA can't go overseas...I have never been overseas in my life! VZW is stellar at raping you on your bills and incoherent charges that may have been applied while someone on their staff was drunk. I really just want an awesome phone (800w or pro). I guess on the up and up I have gone from being dedicated to VZW to open minded and am exploring all options at this point.
I am in the same boat. If verizon does not come out with the new phone on the 12th, I am going to move my family's plan over to sprint. My 700wx is on its last legs (half the keys on the keyboard dont work anymore, and the shift key keeps turning itself on) Verizon has taken way to long to come out with a new windows mobile phone with a front facing keyboard, and it is about to cost them an account that is over 200 bucks a month. I am sure I am not the only one.
Sprint is GSM right? Why sprint over AT&T? I am just curious...I lack information to really support either one.

Sprint is CDMA and AT&T is GSM. I am not sure of all the differences, but I believe most GSM phones use SIM cards (iphone is the one exception I can think of off the bat), and I guess CDMA can be used over-seas easier. I think a preference of one over the other would be more dependant on your geographic location and which carrier has better coverage there!! (it doesn't matter if you can go out of the country MAYBE during your contract time if you can't get reception driving home from work every day!!)

Here is a little more info/detail:

I believe you have it backwards. GSM can be used easier worldwide. From what I understand of what I have read, the vast majority of the rest of the world uses GSM. CDMA is really only used extensively in the States. So if you are traveling overseas alot, then GSM may be the better choice. If you never leave the country, then I would just look at the carrier who has the best coverage where you are at.

Now back to the subject at hand. When the hell is the 800 coming to Verizon?
Thank you both for the information...I greatly appreciate it. I will look more extensively into it before I jump to a different carrier. I am greatly debating it.

Anyway, back to the issue at hand, I am still surprised we haven't heard any additional information on the 800w. Someone HAS to know something. I am still worried about VZW locking functions and butchering the phone. However I will probably get it either way...assuming it comes out! lol

If you want data and text I strongly suggest you compare each of the carreirs monthly x 24 months, and then add the cost of the phone and compare total cost. You are not going to beat Sprint
Well I just called VZW...again...and He looked at all the phones that they are supposed to get through the end of the year and the 800w was not on that list. However, VZW would be crazy to get rid of their only Treo that has a Windows Mobile OS. This worries me, but I told the gentleman that if on Oct. 12th, their is no 800w and no news, that I am getting the Treo Pro and switching to AT&T so be looking forward to my cancelation call. LOL
Well I went and talked to my buddy today who is a Manager for Verizon. After talking he called up an inside source, and he told my buddy that there will "unofficially" be and Palm Treo 800w by the end of this month for sure!

good news...

verizon call and data plan rates are relatively costly, though.

So you're getting it 4th hand? Well then of course I believe Verizon will be releasing it this month

Edited - as I see he's actually getting the info 4th hand.

I was just trying to relay the information that I had obtained. You can take it for what its worth, but you don't have to be a jerk about it.

Not being a jerk, and I apologize for the sarcasm - I just see so many, "My friend spoke to so and so" comments that never seem to pan out.
First off I love rumors and gossip; they are so exciting. And at least his rumors give you hope!!! its better than it will "never" or "not planned", etc. I have Sprint so I have 800w :) at least you guys get WM6 on your 700wx so A. You might need to invest in the 800w and B. If you sell it will probably hold its price better.

ps: I'm in college so I plan to mature when I graduate...
Well the days are counting down! I am not sure if it will be out on the 12th, but I will vote for it coming out before the end of the month.

Wellllll I don't know if I would go THAT far!!!! LOL

I will say that unless you get TOO wrapped-up in it, it is fun to speculate!!!! :D

As long as we're speculating, why not speculate about the Treo Pro coming out on Verizon on Oct. 12th? Given that there seems to be no hard evidence that anything is coming, is the only reason people are assuming it will be the 800w and not the Treo Pro is due to CDMA vs. GSM?

That is very true, but in this instance, I would lean more for the 800 than the Pro being released first. I think if the Pro were close to being released on VZW, we would have at least heard about a CDMA version being made. There hasn't been any evidence of one at all yet much-less being released in a few days!!!!

One can hope though.....right? :D
I would LOVE to see the Pro come to VZW! However, I dont believe that VZW would have had time to test the CDMA version and go over the changes for it coming to a CDMA carrier. I think the Pro WILL eventually come to verizon and I pray that it does, but probably not this soon.
I do wish Verizon would hurry up.

I have one of the earliest 700w phones and it is starting to feel like an anchor. Everyone I see has the nice new technology and I feel like I'm carrying around a bag-phone.

I agree with you that VZW does need to step it up, but with the the Samsung gone, and their Treo 700wx (only one left by the way (I don't count the Centro)) in 'While Supplies Last' status, you gotta think SOMETHING is happening soon!!! :D
Seems like they are trying to make the new Samsung i770 look more like the Treo. Can't say I blame them.

I don't blame them either, and Samsung is a strong name, but the preview (I know....subject to change) pic of this device, and their last couple really haven't done anything for me as far as form-factor goes! The last one (SCH-i760) looked pretty odd, and didn't 'feel' right to me. This one is closer to the Treo in form, but the image given so far does nothing but remind me of the old calculators I used to use as a kid....don't know why, it just does!! LOL

If it comes out at the same time, I will look at it, but it will have to do a lot to pull me away from the 800w (or even my 700wx for that matter)!!!

I agree. My friend has the i760 and he really likes it, but compared to the 700wx, 800w, or Pro it doesnt compare in my book. He said the picsel viewer was a samsung only application. It is a nice feature for viewing webpages, but Sprint's 800w has that program too, so I don't believe it is a Samsung exclusive application. I am excited for the Remote Desktop on WM 6.1! I believe it is only a file explorer, but that is still really cool to me.
Well I contacted good ol' VZW again and they lady told me that the Palm Treo 800w IS in there lineup and they ARE going to release it, but she just didnt have a date for me. She didnt have a date for the storm either. So I am not sure which of these two are going to be release first. I am still going to hold out for 800w fo sho!

The Storm is scheduled for a November release in the US, so VZW will probably pick it up early November, but I don't even take the Storm into consideration!!! If you want to stay with WM, Storm is not the way to go.

To be fair though they are releasing developer tools and an emulator for the Storm, so maybe it will be more customizable that it looks (being a Blackberry OS)!!!

Who did you call? 611, business rep? My wifes phone is on its last leg and I can't get another one till she does and she wants the 800W.
I just tried customer service again and nobody knows anything. Who knows. Maybe Sunday it will just magically appear in the stores.

Yes. I just called 611. I still dont understand why they haven't advertised the 800w yet. It seems like they are so caught up on this storm. Maybe they went over budget on their Storm advertising that they couldn't afford to advertise the 800w haha.

It's not mentioned probably because it's not coming. I can't remember the last time that Verizon simply plopped a phone out without some kind of warning. I am as wishful as anyone but I'm not feeling any love right now from the carrier that I've been with for 11 years. This 700w is ready to die. A long 2 hour talk with a manager at a store yielded nothing other than the Storm coming. If he could tell me the storm was coming to save my account, why couldn't he tell me about the 800w? I know why. It's because it's not coming.

That is what I was thinking. They can say the Storm is coming but not the 800W. I am guessing they have alot invested in the Storm as I get an e-mail everyday asking if I want to do a sneak peak preview of one.

Two options.
1) They don't want 800 eating into Storm sales, so the 800 will get released a few weeks after the storm.

2) There maybe no set date. They may be selling their "Limited supplies" of the WX sitting on the shelf so they don't get stuck with them. Once they are gone the here comes the 800. Seems like a good way to piss off customers to get rid of inventory. They could E-bay them and cover their cost and keep customers from defecting. VZ's WM Pro selection sucks really bad right now.
I vote for the 1st one. They probably dont want the 800w interfering with the Storm sales. Maybe they have a contract or something with Blackberry, that they will sell a certain amount by a certain date. I am just guessing on that and really have no idea.

The VZW rep. DID tell me though that the 800w is DEF. coming! Its just a matter of when.
VZ has a ton riding on the Storm. If I remember correctly Verizon asked BB to make the Storm exclusively for them. The Storm was VZ's idea.

Actually VZW dosn't advertize quite a few devices/phones they carry. I think the only phones they pour a lot of advertizing into are the ones they carry first. If (and it is a big if at this point) they carry the 800w (Personally I think they will) I don't think they will advertize it much (if at all) because it is already out with Sprint.

I think VZW, as any other buisness would, want to be seen as unique, and not a 'Johnnie-come-lately', or trying to imitate the competition by advertizing and making a big deal out of something someone else has had for a while already!! They will put the marketing $ into something exclusive to them AKA the Storm.

Just my two cents!! :D
I believe that they will carry it too. Just a matter of before or after the Storm. Looking at VZ's website something has to be happening shortly with thier PDA phones.

PN-820 shown on VZ's site not on testman
SMT5800 out of stock
Centro
Moto Q Slated for EOL repalce by Q11?? Out 3 years already
XV6900
700WX Slated EOL ??
XV6800. Out almost a year already

They have 3 WM pro devices one that is 3 years old and the other a year old on VZ 2 years old if you count it's other life as the Mogul.

2 WM std devices one of which is 3 years old.

That is not much of a selection to pick from!!!!!! There has to be alot of tired VZ PDA phones out there.
I'm the one that gave that info of the chats to WMExperts sparking this post. It was three different verizon chat reps, all comfirming the treo 800w will be released, two confirming it will be the 12th but they confirmed it by saying it wasn't released on verizon specifically because of the 90 day exclusivity agreement with sprint...looking at 90 days from sprints release of it puts it at Sunday the 12th.

I would agree with syrguy1969 on the advertising of it. Why put a penny into advertising something another carrier has had for 3 months...The other thing is if they are indeed going to release it on the 12th, they CANNOT advertise it if sprint has a 90 day exclusivity agreement on it with palm as that would violate it.

Maybe on the 12th they will just start to advertise they will carry it? Maybe it will get released then? Who knows...but after the 12th if I don't see a FAST sign of something significant released or CLOSE (less than 30 days) to being released, WM6.1, no sliding keyboard (treo form factor etc) on Verizon I'll be heading over to AT&T with some treo pro's - I'm sick of verizon's crappy selection of smart phones and them ALWAYS BEING THE LAST to get the goods (unless of course it's a freakin crackberry POS).

Grrr...

By the way, I've tried with many chat reps since getting that initial information, seems someone their told them to shut up...either that or they grabbed my machine information and location and have a big red flag pop up on their screen when I connect to try to get information.
actually correction I think one more rep also confirmed the 12th and said "yes, on the 12th"...minor correction I know.
I am just wondering if it would be worth moving from the i-760 to the treo 800. I really am starting to miss my treo.

I think it would - especially when compared to the i760. I had that device for about 3 weeks and really didn't like the form factor. There's no one handed operation, I hated the telescopic stylus, you couldn't do T9 input from the front, and I didn't think the memory was up to par.
Lately I have been kicking myself in the butt forgiving up my Treo 700wx and will probably get shot by my wife for trying to get a new phone but I think it might be worth it. THe biggest thing is being able to see the screen outside. I hate this screen.

But you don't mind the two-handed operation? That alone has kept from looking at sliders like the Touch Pro in favor of an external front-facing keyboard.
It takes a bit to get use to but you eventually do. But I like the Keyboard on the treo better.
Less than 5 hours to midnight. Anyone taking bets on whether VZW will come through with the goods? Frankly, I'm betting against it. They were supposed to release the 800w in the 3rd Qtr which obviously didn't happen. The only thing that will make me a believer is a formal announcement from Palm or VZW. I'm ready to bail on VZW and jump ship to Sprint.
Just looked and Verizon's and Palms website and nothing being shown there. I guess we are just waiting day to day now. One day it will just show up out of no where.
I agree. I'm normally not the type to tell everyone "I told you so" but, well..... I don't have to say it. Anyway, my 700w is literally on its last legs and I can't hold out any longer anyway, so Sprint, here I come. Sorry VZW, you just lost a customer because you can't stay on the cutting edge with your products.

Mine too! Wish I could bail on VZW, but would have an ETF, lose the network and all of my friends and family are on VZW. Kinda stuck. :(

EDIT: The BB Storm is looking better and better.
There's now a rumor posted on Howard Forums that VzW isn't releasing the 800w, and instead, Palm as communicated an order to produce a CDMA version of the Treo Pro.

Take it with a grain of salt and a shot of scotch; no source has been attributed to the rumor.

Well I just saw a Blackberry Storm commercial and it is the first I have seen. It said Coming Soon. Based on the speculation I have read above and the given that VZW will probably push the Storm rather than the 800, since Sprint has had the 800 for 3 months now.

I am hoping against all hope that this is true, because I can't leave VZW.

I have also read all the speculation that VZW will bypass the 800 and go for the pro, but from what I have read, this is even more speculation than the 800 and there is no basis for this rumor.

I will say it again as well, that I would prefer the 800 instead of the Pro. The Pro does not have all of the Palm tweaks that make it so easy to manage with one hand based on what I have read.

That'd be a pretty serious change as you'd be talking about the device being released 6 months to a year from now. Unless Palm is already working on a CDMA version of the Pro, but I can't really see them wanting to do that as it'd just compete directly with the 800w.
Sucky...October 12th come and gone...no 800w on VZW...just sucks ***...

I would love it if VZW is going for a cdma version of the pro, but NOT if that means it will be another 6 months waiting for a new WM treo on VZW.

I don't know whether the rumor is true or not, but I disagree with the last points. Palm is competing with HTC. Blackberry and others. Do we think HTC is competing with itself with its releases? Product life in smartphones is shorteer then ever and the 800w was quite late from announcement to market. Ther is no sign that the 800w is a market segment buster and the pro has several core improvements.

Another way to look at it would be that in a year a Pro CDMA would be old news that won't compete well without whatever the competition is bringing in a year.
I hate to say it, but I'm getting fed up with Palm. I've been using palm devices since before they were color. I have had my 700P for 2 years now, and I've loved it minus the lags after disconnecting from a call, intermittent resets when another call comes in, reset loops for no apparent reason, etc.

The palm os is so much fun because of all the apps you can get for it to customize it just the way you want.

I'm seriously considering the BB storm. It can edit documents, which is very important to me, and I'm hoping it can sync my notes, it's a deal breaker if it can't. I don't mind that it doesn't have wi-fi because I have an unlimited data plan.

I was all set to get the 800W on Verizon then read on here about all the bugs. I'm tired of having a phone with more bugs than features.

Yeah: http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1440463

It's in the PDA subforum of the Verizon section. And I was mistaken, this is a source attributed to the rumor in the last message of the post -- I didn't scroll down all the way.

I've been a WM PDA phone user for several years and have yet to come across one that wasn't buggy after additional software as added. Hell, I can't remember having just a PDA that wasn't buggy after 3rd party apps were added. It's the nature of the beast. Gotta pay the cost for the customizations.

IMO, it's all about finding a strategy. I can't remember how many times I had to hard-reset my iPaqs and my XV6600 and 'start over'. With the Treo 700w, I just started moving slower -- paying attention to threads where people tested different software, performing soft resets and backups after every new software install, letting apps run a few days to see if any quirks popped up.

Many people complained about the 700w but I still use mine religiously. I just stick to what is known to work. I have TomTom, various SPB apps, a few games, Pocket Informant, and Mem Maid installed and don't really have any problems. Every once in a while, I have to do a soft reset to get TomTom to work correctly, that's been my biggest headache, if I can call it that. It's all about approach.

Sorry, but that is very old news dating back to the announcement by Palm of the release of the unlocked Treo Pro. Immediately upon that announcement, there was a lot of speculation and wishful thinking that Palm (through HTC) would release a cdma version of the Pro. If, and when, that ever happens, it will take many many months and possibly a year before you see a release of such a device on Verizon's and Sprint's CDMA networks. There is nothing to indicate that such a device has even been manufactured, let alone being tested by VZW or Sprint.

By the way, I'm happy to report that I jumped ship and switched over to Sprint today, purchasing my new 800w and so far, I'm enjoying it immensely. The thing is light years ahead of my 700w monstrosity. I find it incredibly odd that VZW is insistent on clinging to such outdated hardware in light of other products on the market. I was with Sprint 3 years ago before switching to VZW and am happy to be back. I've always been very satisfied with their service. It's nice to be with a carrier interested in carrying cutting edge devices.

Don't let any cobwebs grow as you all wait for VZW to do something. It's apparent you'll all be waiting a very long time as they move through the introduction of their new BB device.
I cant wait anymore, My contract is up the end of the month, If I don't here anything from VZW about the 800w or the pro, I'm switching to the apple iPhone. My 700w is on its last legs.

I think this is the route that I am going to take as well. Unfortunately My contract isn't up until December sometime. So I am kinda stuck for the time being. I would love to jump ship and even wouldnt mind paying to phone bills for a couple of months to get another carrier and a MUCH better phone. However, I cant transfer my number over if it is being used by VZW. I do not want to go through the whole change of number scene after having it for 7 years...I wonder how much it would be to get out of my contract early though. Even if it is only a couple months away I wonder if there is just one flat rate?
Well the 12th came and went still nothing out of verizon...

I am due for an upgrade next month, and would love to have a Treo again, but unless it is an 800 or pro, I may have to get something else...
When you get close to the end of your contract, the termination fee for verizon goes down. If you are close to the end of your contract, you probably will not have a very expensive termination fee.

It's not always about the 3rd party apps, some of the problems I mentioned happened right out of the box.
I've had my phone setup this way for the past few months, then just last Thursday out of the blue, I hit reset loops. I had to delete mega launcher and reinstall it the next day.
I received a replacement 700P a few weeks ago and it disconnects from the internet while I'm using it, and sometimes it won't connect at all. That has nothing to do with 3rd party apps.
Yep, me too - switching to Sprint. Hell, they'll have the Touch Pro out before Verizon will even have the Treo 800w (if they ever will). And sairb1 is correct, they prorate the termination fee - mine is $5...see ya VZW :D
Can I ask a favor? Anyone leaving VZW due to the lack of GOOD decent phones, (800w and Pro and others) could you please let VZW have it and really explain to them why you are leaving. If enough people do it then maybe, maybe, they will start seeing a trend.

Ha ha - I'll call 'em back and give 'em hell!

In all seriousness it looks like Engadget mobile found a rebate form that suggests VZW will be carrying the Omnia and the i770 (which was pretty much known from the spy shots circulating the web of the VZW branded device).

So while they may not pick up the Treo anytime soon - they'll least have these coming down the pike. Which is probably the reason you are not hearing about the 800w being released.

The Omnia looks cool, but I still need that front-facing physical keyboard, and the i770's screen is too old school.
Ok so here's my story. Sorry if it's long winded.

I've had the Treo 700w for about 2 years now. It's served me well but I have been waiting and waiting for it's replacement and in this case the 800w for some time now.

Back in December I tried the 6800 which was nice and fast but not good one handed for me. I took it back after 30 days.

Strike 1. Back to the 700w. :(

Then, last month, I couldn't take it anymore. I needed to know there was a phone that would just work when I needed it. My 700w appears to be dying so...I tried the Blackberry Curve (as listed previously in this or another 800w thread.)

After 30 days with that, I decided it was great at email and SMS but that was about it. I got really used to the trackball too but still missed the touch screen. Couldn't STAND the operating system overall.

I took the Curve back 2 weeks ago.

Strike 2. Back to the 700w. :(

Last weekend I made phone calls to 611. Tried multiple reps. Spoke to the manager at my local store. Not ONE of them could tell me anything or do anything that would make me stay. It was like they really just didn't care that I left. I mean, of course THEY (the individuals) cared but they were powerless to do anything.

Here I am, a customer of Verizon Wireless for over 10 years now. Wow. 10 years! I would have imagined they would do anything they could to save me.

I learned the hard way that loyalty will do nothing for promising me a phone that I can upgrade to. It gives me VIP for discounts, I get great service as I've always gotten from Verizon, but that's about it.

I couldn't believe I was BEGGING them to do SOMETHING to save me. I didn't want to go! I guess they knew that and well......maybe I'm just over analyzing the whole deal.

So, on Saturday of this past weekend, I wandered into the local AT&T store. Can you believe I actually felt like a traitor?!?!?!? I felt so out of place....until.....I saw it.....like fireworks off in the distance drawing the ooooohhs and aaaahhhhhhs......

The Iphone 3G.

Long story short (yeah right) I am on my 30 day trial with the Iphone and so far, I am LOVING it. Wow I didn't think I would like it this much. So much to do. So many apps. Oh yeah, it works when I need it too! So far I can only say that I've had a few calls drop. Honestly I could care less. I use the phone for Data more than I do for talking. It also doesn't work when I am going through the tunnel in and out of NYC while on the train.

Just to be safe, I did NOT port my number over to ATT. I kept my Verizon account active and did a call forward to my ATT service number. This way, if I have to, I can cancel the 30 day trial with ATT and revert back to Verizon without a problem.

P.S. Exchange hosting makes this even easier because all of my contacts, calendar, and emails synced up with the Iphone really nice and easy.

So, there ya have it. If anyone really cares to hear more or has a question, feel free to PM me.

I did the same thing, but towards sprint.

Now, I downgraded my verizon plan from $79.99 (less corporate 19% discount) to

$34.99(less 19%)
with 400 minutes (300 bonus minutes +100 extra minutes/12 months)
Texts, IMs= blocked!
(i'm looking for someone else who is willing to continue the service.
I have more than 1 year to go. Although, I can cancell anytime.)

I'm very happy with Sprint- very!
SERO 500 minutes ($30)
500 extra bonus
Unlimited In Coming

I didn't realize that Verizon Plan was very very costly,
until I came across with SERO...
At least with the same service I get in NYC...

even without the extra perks above SERO.
still sprint is better (for me)
==========================
i grew up with verizon, so it's somewhat hard to part ways.
but i will learn..
==========================

*btw, did not mean to be off topic,..
I am frustrated with VZW and had it out with the 611 rep today. She didn't even want to understand where I was coming from. I called both AT&T and Sprint and it seems like sprint is the best way to go for me and they are a LOT cheaper.

I want the 800w so bad I can taste it. I am sick and tired of waiting and I cant WAIT to give it to VZW rep that has to cancel my account. I look forward to that day and it should be any day now.

I have been with VZW for 7 years, but that doesnt mean anything to them. Their marketing and Consumer analyst should be straight up fired. They put everything they had into a phone without WiFi and a virtual keyboard.

800w HERE I COME!
I too jumped on Verizon to sprint due to monthly cost and lack of 800w by the V.

Now I have learned that sprint has better coverage in my area and is cheaper AND has the 800w.

Porting # this week.
If you like the iphone, and vzw, you might want to wait for the storm. I had a 650 which crapped out on me in June. I was desperately waiting for 800. Used an old flip phone for a month, and then found a curve on craigslist for cheap. While not ideal, I have gotten pretty used to it, and have found most of my old 650 programs for it. I have a i touch, and am not really good with touchscreen kybd, so I am not sure its for me.

But what apple really has going is the browser. It is a 'real' browser. Not like treo, or bb, but as close to your computer as you can get on a phone (no flash yet). If the storm has a html browser close to apples, then it might be the way to go. BB OS is super solid. If you have lots of email, the push email from BB is great as well. The Storm will have ability to use word/excel/etc.

Impossible for me to leave vzw right now as all family is on it, service is great as well. As much as I want a treo of any type , I am doing well with the BB

Welcome to the cool side of the tracks.
Looks like Verizon could be getting the 800w unless Palm just reserved this page at some point a while back. Because it's interesting that Palm's website resolves this page (albeit blank): http://www.palm.com/us/support/treo/treo800wverizon/

Instead of the usual:

...keeping the possibility open. I didn't port my number over to Sprint either, but the more I look at the Touch Pro and see the reviews the more I think I want to at least try this HTC device, and Sprint will at least give me that ability shortly.

Curious. I don't think I ever tried looking for the Verizon support page before...I know the Sprint one didn't show up until the phone was released.

It *COULD* be a remnant of when they thought that Verizon was going to carry it (nearly a year ago). Did anyone check that page back when the phone was released on Sprint?

My thoughts as well...
Well I did it Gentlemen...Switched to Sprint today and grabbed my 800w. I am ready to start looking at getting apps and customizing it. Although my gf did get pretty upset since she has verizon and now it is going to start costing her. Regardless, I at least get 30 days with this baby!
I am hoping against hope that is a sign of things to come rather than e remnant. I can't leave VZW (company phone). After playing with an 800, the 700 just seems old and clunky. Even if VZW locks down the GPS, the device would be worth it for me for the keyboard, sleek lack of antenna look, higher resolution, etc, etc.
Even if VZW locks down the GPS

You can bet they will - yet another reason to move to Sprint (sort of). A big plus is that Sprint actually has the hardware!
Well I am going to take my 800w back to sprint tomorrow and get back on Verizon. Here are the reasons why...

The Rev. software was old and needed updated. Well the thing that the new software fixed was problems with the phone connecting to active sync. Well it makes it pretty hard to put that update on my phone when the active sync doesnt work! I didnt have a microSD card laying around either.

The fact that it doesnt have MMS was a problem, but the guy told me there is now a program you can download now that allows it. I went to get it and if you dont pay then you get this annoying box that comes up everytime...grrr

The stylus is as flimsy as a straw. REALLY it is! I am sure that can be upgraded but if you are paying that much for a phone you should get a decent stylus.

I had a dead pixel on the phone which didnt make me happy at all. The screen resolution really wasnt that good either.

I thought that remote desktop came default with WM 6.1...guess not

I know it sounds like I am bashing the phone...but I'm not. It was EXTREMELY fast and responded quickly. the programs were GREAT. The overall use was spectacular, those are just the problems that I ran into. I am going to head back to VZW with my tail tucked between my legs and wait for another phone.

I was thinking about getting the XV6800 but I am not sure. Hopefully they have fixed some stuff on that phone. I hope it comes with 6.1 now and I dont have to upgrade it myself.

Anyway, let me know what you guys/gals think.

you can find the .cab file around here to add that back. it actually works very well on the 800w or any WM device.

And it's all about SAVING Bucks!

If the issue is about the particluar handset, I would do exchanges...
in an actual plan, for 60 you get
500 minutes,
m2m
sprint navigation
data (on the phone)
sprint tv
unlimited texts, mms
tethering (with pdanet)
nights at 7
and the freedom to use as many programs as you want to ( sprint is really liberal about this)
and the option to choose only roaming (in Atlanta I activate this option every time I'm in the college)
I think I getting more for my money, well I;m college student so i need t save some bucks xD
This is all good info, but back to topic. When the heck is Verizon getting the 800W. Someone has to be able to come up with some info.
I can't believe we have heard no news at all good or bad. I am hoping it will come out on the 26th. Thats just a shot in the dark.

You can't believe we haven't heard anything? Really? I mean this is Verizon we're talking about here - the last WM Pro device they got was what? The Touch? Which Sprint released just about a year ago next month. Verizon got that out the door 5 months after Sprint. I am beginning to think that's when you'll see it - mid to late November (if they release it at all). So if you haven't heard any rumblings, or seen any leaked blurry shots on WM Experts, or Engadget Mobile, then I would start to worry.

For those of us (now) on Sprint - we're starting to get a good laugh at you poor saps on Verizon :D
mmm not really, verizon is geting the omnia :(, but we are getting the touch pro soon XD

Not really? All because VZW is going to release the Omina sometime in November? You're kidding right?

Glad you are happy with Sprint and the 800, but can we keep this conversation on topic? Some of us can't or won't move to Sprint, se we need to keep all hope alive that VZW will release the 800 soon. I myself am on my company's phone package. So moving to Sprint is not an option. Hell if I did leave, I would be going back to AT&T, since that is what my wife has.

Regardless, let's please keep this on-topic. I asked my supervisor who handles the contact with VZW at my company to ask about the 800 and it's planned release date. If and when I hear something I will post it.
I went to Circuit City today and asked at the Verizon kiosk about the release of the Treo 800W. The manager immediately said no, not coming out on Verizon that they decided not to pick it up...

I've asked questions at that kiosk before and gotten very definitive advice about phones before that turned out to be wrong so, who knows, but I was VERY disappointed. There is a lot to love about the Treo Pro from reveiws, but I want the real reasonable keyboard of the 800w. However flashy (and better looking) the Treo Pro, I want the more comfortable larger keyboard.

Here's hoping...
Well that's all very frustrating- is it possible to unlock a Sprint 800w and use it on Verizon? (I see them for sale on ebay, but have thus far not seen any that say unlocked.)

Wow - you guys are really getting desperate! I can hardly blame you though, waiting over 2 years (if you got the 700w when it came out) for an upgrade to a smart phone is ridiculous (and I'd hardly call the 700wx an upgrade).

I always say the consumer is the one who holds the power! Vote with your wallet and change carriers!
True, true. I got the 700w when it first hit VZW. They gave me a free upgrade to the WX about a year later....how many years go was that, coming up on 3 now? Yikes!

However, when I call a VZW CSR, I get somebody in either MD, NJ, or TX. They speak English. They take care of me. And heck, I have this device with me every weekday for 14 hours before I get home and get a chance to charge it. Usually, I've got at least 1/3 battery left. While I'd love an 800, I couldn't deal with that battery life. And Ebag's WM6.0 ROMs have made this thing pretty darn reliable. I guess I'll be waiting for what comes next...

It may be technically possible, but you won't find one. The carriers keep them locked down.

I have seen some adds on Craigs list saying that they will reflash any carriers ROM for another for $35. No idea if legal or would work. Anyone ever do this?

I would be interested to know if this is doable. Does anyone on this know or could point me in this direction?

Thank you.

unless things have changed recently verizon wont activate a serial number that isn't in their database. Guess how it gets in their database? If they bought it from the manufacturer to resell.

Flashing a sprint phone to verizon's settings wont work. (again unless things have changed)

You used to be able to do it-people did it with 650 and 700p's all the time. Then verizon "upgraded" their software and but in the database check and nope sorry...

I didn't think this would work. Whenever you change your phone on line VZ's website automatically updates the picture of your phone model. Unless there is some way to trick it into thinking that is a VZ phone. It would be cool to see a picture of a Sprint 800W on VZ's site though.

Doesn't seem like it is worth haviing your contract voided with them.
By forging ESN numbers on CDMA Devices, it is possible to have a 800w activated on Verizons network, but for Verizon to view it was a "700wx" or any other phone for that matter.
It requires a clean ESN from another phone with the same data provisioning.

This is illegal to do, and once the newer phone bears the old phones ESN, the two must NEVER be on at the same time.
Aside from that plenty of people do it, for a variety of reasons, and it isn't that big a deal as some people on Howard Forums may make it out to be.
It is JUST as illegal to unlock someone's iPhone for profit, then again it's also illegal in some regards for AT&T / Apple to circumvent unlocking.

As a sprint user, I can tell you Sprint is one of the last cellular providers in the world to not allow other handsets on their network. Verizon SAYS they accept other ones, but nobody seems to have any idea how that works.

In any event, I know it sucks to wait for Verizon to get something out- but I wouldn't say the 800w is worth this kind of effort.
Really wonder about vzw now carrying this. Sprint exclusive is up. Omnia is to be released next month. Touch pro and diamond to be released soon as well. Maybe rumors are true that vzw isn't going forward with 800? I can't see a reason why they wouldn't have announced it by now! Majorly bummed. Have been using a curve I picked up on craigslist for $50 since July when my 650 crapped out. Now seriously thinking about omnia or storm. Can't type for s**t on my itouch, but love the screen and internet browsing. Omnia, touch, and storm have that great screen. Tactile feedback from omnia and storm might make virtual kybd better... Will wait for reviews over the next month and keep fingers crossed on treo.
After I recently switched to Sprint and picked up my new 800w (which I am really enjoying), I dropped by a VZW store to pick up a charger for my son's LG. While there, I talked to the manager of the store, explained my frustrations with VZW in not putting out the product and asked him what was up with the 800w. He admitted that VZW's big push is the BB Storm and upcoming Samsung Omnia and HTC Touch Diamond and that they're not hearing anything about an impending Palm 800w release. He admitted that VZW is and has been testing the 800w on its network but they've received no word as to an official release date. He said they haven't even received the software for selling and setting up the 800 which he said normally occurs shortly before receiving a new phone. They have received the software for all of the above-described phones however.

He commented that if you're holding out for a new WM Palm device from VZW in the near future, "Don't hold your breath."

Oh, by the way, he did acknowledge that they're aware of development of a CDMA Treo Pro but also said that realistically, he wouldn't look for release until at least next summer sometime and that there was no guarantee VZW would be the first to offer it.

His frankness and honesty was refreshing and I certainly felt my decision to switch to Sprint was validated.
If anything I bet Verizon gets the Treo Pro instead of the 800. It just makes sense since the Pro is unbranded and now there is evidence that there is a CDMA version being tested. Verizon I believe declined the 800. There has been evidence that there are Verizon splash screens on the 800.
Well I am worried because their have been rumors of the Pro coming to Sprint. Does this mean that Sprint won the Pro as well as the 800w? Surely VZW wouldn't let this happen. Is it going to be another exclusive time frame again for Sprint with the Pro? I am thinking about just waiting for the Omnia...VZW always shatters my hopes!

There hasn't been "evidence" that there are Verizon splash screens, there ARE Verizon splash screens on the 800w. :p

It's my belief that Verizon was the original carrier for the 800w, as a WM6 phone to replace the 700w/wx. They ditched the 800w and went for the WM6 upgrade instead.

Sprint picked up the 800w, but insisted that Palm go with 6.1 (hence the delay).

Well we know that Sprint is testing a device that at least identifies itself as the 850e. I'm still not 100% convinced that this is actually the Treo Pro in a CDMA form, not to mention there's a LONG way to go between simply testing the device and actually releasing it on a network (again, look at the time frame between the Centro release and when it was picked up).
I am pretty close to giving up hope...I am HIGHLY doubting that the 800w is even coming to Verizon. My contract isnt up till Dec 8th, so that gives me time to sit back and wait I suppose. I am SOOO bored with my phone (Voyager) I need something new and exciting...and I want a Winmo phone cause I miss my 700wx I used to have.
I qualified for a "new every two" end of last year, hoping for an 800w release - but this has been a ridiculously long wait for a substantial upgrade to the 700w, which I got new as it was released (have had two replacements since, last one a year ago).

I'm getting close to giving up too on the 800w coming out on Verizon. After chatting online last week and hearing the rep say she had never even heard of the Treo 800w and refused to believe it had been out with Sprint (I sent her the link - duh!) since June. She also justified that Verizon wouldn't carry it because two carriers don't carry the same phone (not true) by saying 'only AT&T have iphone'. Then I spoke to a government sales rep and he also said he hadn't even heard of 800w! What a joke! So then yesterday I spoke to customer service about something else, and she put me through to a data support rep who was much more helpful going through what he thought was coming out that might match my needs - gps, wifi, windows mobile, QWERTY keyboard, etc.

The data support rep said they (or the Verizon shop managers) don't get any word really on what is in the pipeline until it appears but he sees all the rumors online like we do. So no word on the 800w, and I'm thinking it may not come to Verizon at this point, which is disappointing to say the least, or certainly not soon because other stuff like BB Storm is being advertised. He did go through what else was like the Blackberry Strom about to come out mid November, and then also the Samsung Omnia - while this is touchscreen it does have WM 6.1, wifi, gps, etc. and looks enticing; and if i can get over using the touchscreen keyboard, I may consider it. Otherwise, the only other consideration is to get the 700wx in the meantime to get the extra memory and WM 6.1 but I don't think the $200 cost is worth it (with discount and new every two that's what it would cost me to upgrade). Then if the 800w or the Treo Pro come out first half of next year at least I have something. Thoughts?

That's really very true. The two Sprint stores in my area (one corporate) didn't know anything about the 800w until a few days before it was released.

Agreed, I certainly wouldn't consider the 700wx an UPGRADE to the 700w. Verizon has really left you Windows Mobile users out in the cold. The way they move so slowly to deploy new devices (if even at all), and charge you for data plans, is ridiculous. I really don't understand the loyalty to them. Hence, that's why I switched to Sprint. Their selection of WinMo phones compared to VZW is not even close - what does VZW even offer? Answer, not much. Can you believe I have the 800w, and if I want to I can swap it out for the Touch Diamond, and very shortly the Touch Pro (and not a crippled version like you'll be getting - although only God knows when that'll be), before you VZW customers even see any of those. What are you waiting for, jump ship already or stop speculating/complaining!

I will agree with your point here about WM phones (the omnia seems the strongest option in the (relatively) near future) being limited with VZW, but it isn't quite that easy for a lot of us to switch. If I were alone, I would be over in a second, but considering I am with VZW in a family plan with 4 lines, my extended family and close friends are all with VZW, and switching over to Sprint would mean purchasing all new phones (not just the Treo LOL). I did a quick estimate online, and after getting appropriate phones and plans to get what I have now, the monthly charge may be less, but it would be well over $600. Then taking into account the cost that would accrue with calling out-of-plan people (all friends + family still with VZW) that currently allow me to stay low on my minutes, and then the cost to my friends and family incurred on them.....it isn't financially feasable to me or fair to them!!!

Wish it were...I would get the 800w and the $99 unlimited if I were alone!!

I also don't disagree with your points, but it's not simple to change carriers. For me, as well as family and friends being on VZW, I live in the Washington DC/Northern Virginia area and VZW has generally had a superior signal strength in the national capital region, including in the Metro subway system - which makes a big difference, so switching to Sprint is not really a viable option. So I'll take a good look at the Omnia when it comes out in November (hopefully) because I don't think $200 is work the "mini-me" upgrade the 700wx would bring.

This is the EXACT same reason why I cant switch over either. I live in a town with a population of approx. 19,000. All we have is 2 verizon stores and that is it. So all of my family and friends have VZW. Trust me, I would switch if I could in a heartbeat. Maybe I can talk to sprint and have them open a couple of stores in my town :) In the meantime, I have to put up with the terrible phone selection of VZW.
I am in a little more populated area (Syracuse, NY), but VZW has fantastic coverage and CS here (never had a problem they didn't make it worth my while having). Sprint is not as good, but I would switch anyway at this point...there has to be a break in their WM selection soon!!
Another coverage person problem here...In our area, Portland OR, Verizon is the only SOLID provider in terms of coverage and reliable signal. AT&T is pretty close on coverage but in this area at least they drop calls constantly (and they admit to the problem here). Sprint roams on Verizon so shouldn't be an issue and for the brief time we did switch for the 800w coverage wasn't much of a problem but we DID drop calls constantly, same problem as AT&T...the only other option here which actually doesn't have too bad of service in this area is T-Mobile, but their phone selection is WORSE than Verizon...So...Stuck with Verizon and their crappy *** selection of phones.

From what I hear though AT&T is making a strong effort in this area to resolve the problems with dropped calls, if/when they ever do get those problems ironed out I'd switch in a heartbeat (roll over minutes for us would save us a LOT of money, not too mention their far superior selection of smartphones).

Come on Verizon, stop dropping the ball here!
I have to admit...with the exception of a physical keyboard, I am thinking I may have to get the Omnia if that is all VZW picks-up. For lack of a Palm upgrade, I may be able to deal with the handicap of only having a virtual keyboard!! It does look pretty sweet!!

My in-laws live 40 mins outside Portland. My brother lived there for some time. I've been all over most of Portland and I can't recall a single dropped call. My brother used Sprint the whole time he was there, and it always worked just fine.

On the other hand, my mother-in-law has Verizon, while my father-in-law has Sprint (a phone on our plan, he refused to carry one otherwise  ). The Verizon phone has issues all the time, the much cheaper candybar Sprint phone gets far better reception and far less dropped calls, even out in the middle of nowhere.

Not questioning that you had dropped calls, merely stating that has not been my experience. Just my two peso's.

I have NEVER been impressed by AT&T's coverage anywhere I've used one of their phones. So in that we agree. :D

Yep, that sounds about right. As I mentioned in my posting above, I'm certainly starting to lean this way too - it's a big IF regarding the virtual keyboard so I'll wait for it to come out and give it a test. It appears to have a 'haptic'? response built in so when you hit a key with your finger it gives a small vibration response, which sounds better than having to visually check to see if the letters are registering constantly. It may be OK.

Totally agree - I had AT&T when I first got to the DC area (that became Cingular, which became AT&T in a different form). My neighbor switched to an AT&T iphone and has lots of dropped calls. AT&T in this city is severely lacking.
I was contacted by a customer service rep thismorning after I sent an e-mail basically saying I am considering moving to a different carrier because I was hoping verizon would come out with one of the newer Treos. He did not know anything about newer phones being released, but specifically said "I do not know when the Treo Pro is going to be released". I never mentioned which treo I was hoping verizon would carry, and he specifically said Treo Pro several times during the conversation. He ended with saying if you give verizon a little more time I would be happy with the soon to be released phones.
"I do not know when the Treo Pro is going to be released"

Interesting...one can only hope! Just wonder if he knew what he was talking about and what VZW's definition of "a little more time" is, given that it's been 3 years since the 700w release. Anyway, thanks for a glimmer of hope.

Yea I am wondering that myself, but he did hint to it being after the new blackberry so my guess is going to be early next year... unfortunately I am not going to wait that long... If nothing comes out that I like by then end of November, then I am looking to a new carrier...
Well I suppose I got a little frustrated and sent VZW an email. Below is the email that I sent them. Hopefully you will all agree with me.

I would like to send this email and hope that it does not fall on deaf ears. As VZW may know, many, many of your customers are unsatisfied with the selection of Windows Mobile OS phones. The selection is disappointing to say the least. There have been hopes and glimmers of hope for the Palm Treo 800w or the Palm Treo Pro.

Every time I have contacted Verizon they know absolutely no information at all and I have not obtained any information at all through Verizon. I understand that phones have to be tested and obtain an FCC approval and you don’t want to let anyone’s hopes down or disappoint them. However, if VZW DOES plan on getting a phone maybe you should have a "Coming Soon" category like other carriers do on your website. This will give the customers something to look forward to, rather than being in the dark and switching carriers due to lack of knowledge and information.

I have a Bachelors in business management (and I am NOT saying I am an expert) but I am disappointed in the manner Verizon handles such issues. I would encourage someone from VZW to read the attached link.

http://www.wmexperts.com/articles/rumors/verizon_likely_to_carry_the_tr.html

You will see how many dedicated customers all over are switching carriers left and right because they are tired of VZW's phone selection and are simply "tired of waiting". I myself and in this boat and I find it sad. It seems as if VZW doesn't want to help their customers or listen to their words of advice. There seems to be a lack of communication within the corporate status with VZW.

I would encourage VZW to take a step back and reevaluate the big picture and accomplish what they say they can. This would help VZW as well as the customers. I often think that VZW gets "Tunnel Vision" and are unaware of the other projects and aspects they should be focused on.

I would love to see VZW step up their game and rise to the challenge of responding and implementing their customer’s advice and concerns.
I sent an email with the same ideas and sentiment (people leaving VZW, no WM devices, needing a 'coming soon' section (REALLY would be useful).....), but as of today, after 2-3 weeks I haven't heard anything from them, goos luck!! I hope someone gets through to them!!
I like the earlier post re: how verizon, or any carrier for that matter, should post on their website a "coming soon" link, similar to verizon's storm webpage.
that way we wouldnt be guessing whats coming...

i guess apple has influenced the industry more so than just the whole touchscreen thing...
