Samsung i760 Gets Windows Mobile 6.1 Udpate, YouTube Support

Well it didn't happen last month like we'd hoped (do these upgrades ever do), but the Windows Mobile 6.1 update for the Samsung i760 has officially dropped, go grab it here. Notable: Samsung seems to have simplified their update process -- none of that crazy putting the phone into “modem” mode that we dealt with on the BlackJack. Also notable: there are separate installers for XP and Vista, so be sure you grab the right one.

In addition to all that WM6.1 goodness, there's plenty of other updates inside:

  • Applied, several Bluetooth improvements (updated BT DUN profile, improved scanning)
  • Applied, support for YouTube videos
  • Applied, Qualcomm patch
  • Fixed, memory leakage by replacing POOM API
  • Fixed, notification malfunction under certain conditions
  • Fixed, certain conditions prevented delivery of MMS
  • Added, MEID support (included in BC04 MR)
  • Added, WLAN chipset enhancement (included in BC04 MR)

Update: Mike sends us the links for direct download, as the page linked above doesn't get you there:

For Vista:

For XP:

Thanks, Mike!

Interesting. The links on Gear Diary to download the updaters are working fine, but if you navigate the links through the Samsung instructions pages, when you eventually get to the download links they are not active. Hmmm.....
Thanks guys. Nice to see the i760 getting a little love.

Update was a piece of cake and all seems to be working as advertised.

Only issue I've run into is a software compadibility issue: When selecting a colored "theme" using SPB Mobile Shell the device hangs big-time. I'm assuming the things SPB Mobile Shell accessed and modified when setting a "theme" have been moved or altered under 6.1. Other than that... works great!

Thanks again.
Does anyone have the file that can be emailed to me? The links seem to be down
Nevermind. After much digging i have found a post that someone uploaded to a mirror. Here is the post http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/744043-post4.html
If I remember right, the installer/updater through Samsung is about a 40MB .zip or .rar file.

Its probably best to find the updated links, elsewhere.

I saw mention of the link changing on day 1 over on http://pdaphonehome.com/forums/samsung-sch-i760/. Search around a bit and you'll find the new working links there pretty easily.
My upgrade also went fairly smoothly. One thing I didn't see mentioned here is that the problem with support for SDHC cards was also fixed with this update. I now have a 4 gig card in there. Woo hoo!

Thanks to the writer friend who writes the articles on your web site.I red all of your articles but now i'm supposed to read new ones.I just watched a such kind of subject on youtube and i enjoyed that. It's one of the uniqe subjects either.....

See you on another article...
