Video: Silverlight Mobile Demo - MIX

Although we briefly mentioned Silverlight for Windows Mobile a couple days ago, we added the fact that it would be arriving this Spring (specifically, “Q2”). Want more proof? Check out these Demo videos of Silverlight's UI abilities. They're pretty low-rent looking, but what's engaging is that it appears that Silverlight developers will be able to take advantage of them without much complex coding.

Silverlight was also demoed by Giorgio Sardo at Mix 08 (yes, that Monkey Dance Redux Mix 08). You can head over to the Mix site and see his full presentation in (Silverlight) video - which starts with a “Windows Vista 'port' inside Silverlight inside Windows Mobile” -- no, not a real port, but it does begin to show you how much Silverlight can do.

Let's review: Silverlight is more powerful than Flash lite, offers more interface options than Flash, and works better than either on Windows Mobile. This is why we're bully on Silverlight, why we've gone so far as to hope that Silverlight will be built deeply enough into Windows Mobile that it can begin to take over as the full interface instead of just a browser plugin.

Sneaky buggers installed Silverlight along with Office 2008. I caught it auto-updating today! Way to harshen my QT mellow there, Monkey Boy!

(Least I might be ready for the Olympics.)
