it happens, i've been holding off on the unofficial version, because i do have a warrenty on my phone, and the last thing i need right now, is a screwed phone...

The downgrade went fine. I'm having serious connection issues with this thing.

Thats good to hear, ya i heard that alot from people on this forum, i've really been giving it to the people at palm and att to see if i can squeeze approximate dates and things out of them for this new WM6 release...seems like it was said to be today, but then palm finally told me in the next two days...well just have to see...

well this may be some good news.... I'm not one for trying to spread rumors, but I just recieved a txt msg from AT&T's support with that above mentioned link in it!

Now it also said the link should become live by 3PM Pacific time.

According to infromation received, that would be correct!

The big problem with this is that the update is NOT hosted by AT&T but by Palm which means that they are the authority on when it will be released. As far as we've seen when asked they either say 2 days or repeat the soon script.

wasn't the big argument that ATT was holding it up, looks like thats no longer a problem. I don't think ATT would deliver false information, especially when it comes to specific times...

the last "script" i got from palm was, "att may be correct, but I am unsure because we haven't recieved the final confirmation memo from our engineering department"....

This isn't the run of the mill "coming soon" statement! This is a definate, it will be here 6:00 PM EST! If it isn't I'm going to give 'em hell, as should all of you....

I just hope the server can handle the traffic...

Just FYI, I just chatted with ATT and got the same answer that it will be available today at 6:00 pm EST. They acknowledge the link doesn't work now but will have the software today around 6:00 pm EST.

This is the real deal. AT&T has never committed a date and time to anyone before. (all dates ever posted before were from rumored leaked inside emails, best friends, etc.)

Nah... just the timing. I'm out of town right now and really don't want to go tinkering until I'm back home at the end of the week. Even if the release comes out tonight, I'll likely wait until I get home to install it.

I waited it out as well, didn't take long since I was on the forums, and hitting technical chats, trying to get definate answers, I'll put the farm on this being the real deal. Thank god I didn't get the leaked version, heard it was screwing up a few phones...

Flight not necessary when I'm only two hours from home (in Auburn by the way).

Just looked in my briefcase and left my sync cord and mini-sd card reader at home as well.... figures. I may have to find the local computer store and by another mini-sd card.

Running the leaked ROM. Now I have to wait for the gurus to install the official ROM, determine if it fixes/hoses anything, and post their findings before I will go to the trouble of updating mine. Still not sure I want all the ATT bloatware though.

It is. I arrived at that URL by taking the *actual* download link for the ROW update, changing ROW to ATT, and incrementing the version number until it worked. Its 2.25, unlike the ROW update's 2.23.

Heck, even this link works: http://downloads.palm.com/Treo750_2_25_ATT_EN_DesktopUpdater.zip. If that isn't official, I don't know what is.

Take the one I gave you, replace 25 with 23, and ATT with ROW. That's the link the ROW download page gives you when you download.

looks like they posted both a PC updater and a SD method! I'll be going with SD method myself I think.

My update is failing.... i'm currently running the leaked WM6.... Not sure if I have to downgrade to WM5 in order to run upgrade.

I keep getting to the boaloader screen (with all the colors) and the updater tells me that it fails, do a soft reset and try again. Anyone else having an issue that is trying to upgrade to offical ROM from the leaked ROM?

I ran the desktop updater on my 750, which has been running the leaked ATT version for months. No problems - took about 20-30 minutes until I had the Today screen again. Still showing software TREO-750-1.13-ATT, but the version screen show WM6 Professional, CE OS 5.2.1620 (Build 18125.0.4.2).

This rocks! 13 minutes to update, no issues, not even any with active sync - and it is much more responsive. The new calender is pretty nice too. Now I just have to re-install some apps.

Ok, i have an interesting problem now... did the install via desktop and loaded the official ROM. My version numbers changed, etc. However, because the device rebooted and reset while it was connected and was about to finish the last part, it didnt finish the last part (which loads all the customized stuff that ATT addes like WM Live, etc) I dont have that stuff on my device now. And, I cant update via usb desktop anymore because it detects the ROM version as the latest and it stops.

I wish I would have just did the SD method in the first place... seems that would have just went smoother. I'm trying to boot into the SD version the old way (with PPT and reset button pushed) and see if that works.

Per the directions I did a hard reset(power key and soft reset button). The device booted normally, then said it was applying customizations (i think don't remember exactly) and then was done. Nothing erased, etc. My version now shows 2.25ATT and it didn't before (still showed CNG something). So I'm going to play around and make sure it's working right. Firmware now 1.47.25. I tried to pop the card in again and says my version is newer than the card. so I think if the update didn't work I'd have to go back to WM5 then try it again? We'll see how it works.

It's the WM5 version that came pre-loaded. I never even attempted to change it.

1.47.25 is the leaked-ATT ROM version, so it sounds like it didn't complete the update.

I am getting the same error.
Mine was purchased direct through Cingular as a corporate phone. Has not been modified in any way.

Currently trying to set up a chat session with AT&T support. I am sure resolution is "just around the corner".

Not sure what you meant by 'not at 2.25".

DOH! I meant "now" at 2.25 - the last step, the 'device customizer,' set the correct version. The AT&T bloatware was installed before that step, though.

Update

No. The 750updateATT page checks the serial number, then downloads the file that the direct link goes to... Takes about 20-25 minutes in three steps - the desktop program shows the progress. Pretty painless, as far as flashing something goes...

Update Purgatory

My update stopped half way thru and rebooted. My phone settings say 'Treo750-2.25-ATT' but I’m still on Windows Mobile 5.0. When I insert a SD card for the update the phones says the software is newer and can not install. I've tried the Update Recovery tool, but that doesn't work. Any suggestions?

I had the same S/N not recognized issue. Its not a leaked WM6 ROM problem. In my case it could be because it is a corporate program bought, non-camera phone. Can anyone confirm that you can go directly from the leaked WM6 ROM to the official AT&T ROM without unlocking the extended ROM?

That's what I did - used the direct link on page 2 or 3 - didn't bother with the serial number check.

If you run the desktop update (just the inital launch of it without proceeding further) it extracts stuff to:
C:\Documents and Settings\\Local Settings\Temp\MIa00688

The .nbh file is in there (CHEEIMG_FW.nbh)

Assuming you can copy this to another directory, transfer to your miniSD and to the reset+red button method potentially?

Can you post the link to the Palm chat site? I have been unable to find it.
I am currently on the line with AT&T support and they are looking in to the issue but I will probably need Palm to resolve.

CraigD -- Just double checking, you used the direct link (which I did too rather than mess around with customer support), got the desktop updater, then went directly from the leaked ROM to the official release without doing any other preparation, correct? I installed the original leaked ROM a few months back and never messed with it in any way.

The only thing that AT&T does well is bill the customer!

I had problems too. I used 7zip to extract the file from the zip, and it worked fine then. Just using winrar gave me a "Cannot extract to folder that already exists" or something.

CraigD -- Just double checking, you used the direct link (which I did too rather than mess around with customer support), got the desktop updater, then went directly from the leaked ROM to the official release without doing any other preparation, correct? I installed the original leaked ROM a few months back and never messed with it in any way.

Mine's in the process of upgrading from the 2.23 ROW to the 2.25 ATT. I simply changed the payloads.xml file (Change the "hi" version number from 1.13 to 2.23, or whatever rom version you have) Seems to be working for me, at 13% and counting.

Can you post the link to the Palm chat site? I have been unable to find it.
I am currently on the line with AT&T support and they are looking in to the issue but I will probably need Palm to resolve.

No longer need link. Was able to Google for it. Took me less than 60 seconds from time I entered the room to have a dummy s/n and download started. Not bad response time.....

I would suggest going to the Palm chat site for a dummy s/n. As you are supposed to only be able to download one copy per s/n...they are probably issuing the dummies from a list.

Just sharing my experience. I've been running the unofficial ATT WM6 ROM successfully for several weeks now. Just to be safe I downgraded back to the Cingular WM5 ROM then did the upgrade via SD and everything went smoothly.

I just got the SD update version using a dummy s/n from Palm. It was painless. Keying off the direct link to the desktop install version on page 2 of this thread, the URL below should take you directly to the SDUpdater file:

I'd say search XDA for the full scoop, but here's the quickie:

1. Download the cabs here:

Then copy them to your Treo.

2. Run CHEE_MountExtROM
3. Soft Reset
4. Run Chee_Extrom_rename
5. Soft Reset
6. Ensure only file left in Extended ROM is CarrierDB.PXP.
If so,
7. Hard reset

If Not, delete again and soft reset until only CarrierDB.pxp is left.

The really short version: CapPackage is all the AT&T crap that's in there, WHICH YOU DO NOT NEED. Leave CarrierDB unless you want to manually set your network settings.

Welp....I guess I might as well give this a go....I'm actually gonna try this through VMWare and see if it works, it's already worked for other similar functions! I'll let you guys know if updating through a VM worked for me on my macbook pro.

All done! :D Seems to have done everything just fine!!! Firmware and software versions are correct. Total process took me 18 mins.

Free storage is 43.15 MB, and Free program is 25.13 MB

DOH! I meant "now" at 2.25 - the last step, the 'device customizer,' set the correct version. The AT&T bloatware was installed before that step, though.

maybe its just me, but at first right afte the update i notcied an increase in speed, and boy does it look awesome...but now it seems like its bogged down, and running just a tad slower, i know i had a few failed attempts with the update, but finally got it to work, should I redo the update, to see if I can just refresh everything....

The WM5 ROM was on that XDA forum. It is actually the Cingular ROM (pre-ATT). I no longer have the link and besides it probably has moved. I'd recommend going there and searching unless someone else knows of a current link.

You browse through your Treo's file directories, either on the device itself or while it's synced to your computer.

I like Resco Explorer, but the stock file explorer does the same thing.

Once you run the first cab file, the hidden partition should be visible. Delete the cappackage, soft reset to make sure it's gone, then hard reset.

And downgrading shouldn't be necessary, I had wm6 on my 750 and it updated without a problem

Glad to hear it is not necessary to downgrade back to WM5. I won't be updating till the weekend but want to be prepared. I plan to use the MiniSD Card method (have both versions downloaded).

Try a different USB port, the multi-color lines is the bootloader mode, very normal

I am having *exactly* the same experience - very snappy at first, now I am watching the "busy" clock waaaay too much. Pocket Internet Explorer seems to scroll very sluggishly in this new build too.

They seem to have fixed the low backlight/waking up bug but I am not convinced about the perf or battery life. I will give it a whole day tomorrow and then possibly go back to a previous ROM I had good experiences with.

2 steps forward, 2 steps back.

Just wanted to report back that I completed the upgrade. I had an issue where I interrupted the installer via the desktop and the installer crapped out at the last stage. The phone didnt quite update fully update (at first I didnt see the AT&T icons, no wm live (didnt realize at the time its not included in the ATT Official ROM)) but it did update the software version.

So I tried to run the install again and of course it crapped out saying that I had the latest version. I started to panic a little, made a useless call to Palm for help and then turned to the forums here to get some insight on how to get around the problem. Well come to find out all I had to do was edit the payload file's high number from 1.13 to 2.25 and the install will run again. Everything went well this time.

I had been running the leaked ROM since day one it was leaked and was happy with WM6 already. A few little things I see that are improved from the leaked:

1. The new MS Office Apps are included
2. Voice Command has a slight update number (with this version its 1.6.18125. With the leaked version its 1.6.17746)
3. A new theme

I'm sure there are some other "under the hood" changes that are transparent to us that have been included to improve the overall performance.

I'm not that upset about the exlcusion of WMlive. The program was buggy for me anyway (the one that was included in the leaked ROM) and most likely folks and Palm/ATT decided that that version wasnt ready for primetime and removed it. I may try the cab files that are on XDA to for the WMlive to see how that works.

You need to make sure that the HTC USB drivers are loaded on your PC. To do this, you need to put your device into Bootloader mode, by pressing and holding the PTT key, and the soft reset button under the memory card door at the some time, then plugging it into your PC, via the USB cable while still in bootloader mode. Most likely after you do this, you will need to go the the control panel>system>Hardware tab>device manager on your PC, and at the bottom of the list you will see a yellow !. douple click that at then click the reinstall driver button. this will search your computer for the proper driver, install it and end the confilict.

You can then unplug your device from the PC, do a soft reset, and start the upgrade.

Okay, just so you know, I already put the unbranded version of WM6 on my phone. When I ran the updater, it said, "You don't need to install this update". I didn't want to go back to WM5, and then come back, so I didn't downgrade to WM5.

I just started it again, and modified the payloads.xml file to show 2.24 on the high version (it said 1.13), and it started fine. It is running the update right now - hope it works! I will let you know.

I had to do a hard reset....i thought maybe refreshing everything right after the install might help, and boy did it! Runs like a champ, and I absolutely am in awe with it. Are there no programs out there that will let you delete the ATT stuff individually in stead of going through a bunch of ROM steps? I know on my old Palm I had a program callled File Z and I could just delete the hell out of anything Iwanted to? Is there something similar for this OS? Thanks so much!

Me too. Even with the unbranded version of WM6, battery life was WWWWAY better than under WM5, which was my only gripe with it. It's nice the battery drain problem seems to be fixed.

One other thing I want to point out with this upgrade is that I was having issues trying to use the SD method. It kept telling me the card wasnt formatted as FAT32 (which I know it was because I used that same card to do the leaked upgrade back in august) so not sure what was up with that. I reformatted serveral times as FAT32 and still had the same issue. Anyone else have this issue using the SD upgrade?

Search the XDA forums for the Cingular WM5 ROM. The installation process is the same as it was for the WM6 leaked ROM - copy the CHEEIMG.nbh file to a FAT32 formatted mini SD, insert the card into the Treo and press both the PTTApp Button & Reset at the same time to start the process.

1.47.25 is the leaked-ATT ROM version, so it sounds like it didn't complete the update.

Yep I think you're correct, I don't think the hard reset worked when I tried it. I get a weird autorun.exe message now. Using the instructions provided here I edited the high version in the xml file to 2.25 thanks to Edrego's tip and am trying it again now. Thanks for the tip Edrego!

He means the side button. It's always been referred to as the PTT button, not sure why, but so it goes...

On my WM6 leaked ROM, when I type a SMS or e-mail, I have a bit of lag and it usually takes a while for the words on screen to catch up to my typing. In fact, I often get the color wheel indicating that it is catching up. Do any of you know if this has been resolved with the official ATT upgrade? I would like to turn back on autocomplete if I can....

Yes, that is the button. In other countries, it IS Push To Talk.

On another amazing note, the day the upgrade came out, my area was upgraded to HSDPA!

I'm in the outlying suburbs of Philadelphia, and we have HSDPA 3 towns closer to philly, but now it''s here to!!

Uninstall from the PC and reinstall. Uninstall on the Treo. This is usually due to a partially completed installation.

Are you installing 9 Hole OTA? Almost every app you d/l OTA will cause that popup screen about being an unsigned application. Although I've never seen a reference to a regedit to disable the popup, it has to exist. Just dismiss the popup notice and continue to install as long as you're getting it from a trusted source.

Upgraded from the leaked ROM

I upgraded from the leaked ROM to the official 2.25 ROM and it is working perfectly. The version numbers for the firmware and software match up with the screenshots I've seen online. I actually have a little more RAM available at startup now than I did on the leaked version. The only thing missing vs the leaked ROM is Windows Live Mobile, which I was able to download from here .

For all those who are having serial number issues: make sure that your phone is registered with Palm. I had the same serial number issues but then remembered that I had never registered my phone with Palm. Everything was fine afterwards, though please note that it takes a while for your registration to get into Palm's system.

nope installing it from my wintel machine (primary machine is a mac). I'll try removing it from the pc and reinstalling to see if I can get it back on the phone. Other than that, this is working very well. Voice Command over bluetooth seems to work better for me than WM5 and the leaked version. I no longer have to scream into my bluetooth speaker phone in the car for it to work, just have to speak clearly, slowly, and just a bit louder.

And what apps can be deleted?

I'm currently on the ROW release from a week or two ago. I'd rather update to this release, but don't want to lose the space with those useless ATT apps that I don't want.

I have a basic question. I want to update to WM6, but I don't want to lose everything on my phone. If I sync immediately before updating, then sync afterwards, will everything reload onto my treo or will I have to go through and manually reinstall all of my files/notes?

If you're configured to back up your "My Documents" folder, you'll get that back after resyncing. You will lose all your applications, speed dials, configs/options, and anything in a "custom" folder. You will also have your miniSD card intact...

It will sync what ever items you have selected to sync, ie. contacts, calendar events, tasks, favorites and so on. If you only have your contacts set to sync then that is the only thing that will be reloaded back onto your phone when you sync after the update. You need to remove your media card before updating so any files that are on there will be fine. Any programs you installed will need to be reinstalled after the update is done regardless if you installed them on your media card.
