In addition to the expanded compatibility and retail availability of the Redfly, we're also happy to announce that Celio is sponsoring a giveaway. Yes, folks, we're giving away a free Celio REDFLY. Heck, Celio also tossed in 10 T-Shirts as runner-up prizes as well.

One more piece of news: there's now an Official Celio REDFLY Developer Forum, where you can go and get questions about the Redfly answered by the WMExperts community and by the folks directly at Celio. Which apps work with Celio? Which ones dont? How long does the battery last? What graphics capabilities does the Redfly really have?

Contest details after the break!

How to win a Celio REDFLY

  1. Comment on this post or head to the associated thread new Redfly forums at WMExperts
  2. Answer the question at the top of the thread, namely “How will the Redfly help me or my business?

How will the Redfly help me or my business?

The Redfly will finally help me secure the love and adoration (or spite and envy) of all of the geeks around me. What could be better?

Seriously though, interesting concept. Would love to see one in action in person.
Redfly will help me keep organized and look like a geek at the same time :)
Redfly will improve my web browsing and document editing experience. I'm also intrigued by the possibility of using photo editing tools.
the redfly will definately improve my ability to work win traveling, with it I should be able to leave the laptop in the office
Redfly would allow our user base to use their Windows Mobile programs as a substitute for their laptops.
The Redfly will make emailing and web browsing through my sprint mogul so much more convenient and userfriendly. This is a very cool concept, especially now with web browsers like opera mobile 9 and skyfire. Goodbye traditional laptop. Hello Redfly.
Redfly will help my fat fingers type faster instead of writing shorthand with my miniscule keyboard. Plus who doesn't want ZOOOOOOOOOOOOOM into their smartphone.
Redfly will allow my business users to finally ditch their blackberrys and HP laptops and consolidate their information onto their smartphones.
The Redfly will make it easier for me to access my data while I'm traveling. It will also keep me from having to pull out the laptop when I want to surf the web from the couch.
The Redfly would let me leave my laptop at home for about 90% of my mobile uses. Glad to see it supports the 750!
I'm a student, it will help save money on a laptop by helping me use my Touch for a lot more. Plus I'll be able to impress chicks with it...
The Redfly is what the Foleo was supposed to be, but better implemented since you don't have to store data in multiple locations.
will love it, and will maintain my geeky feel
this is great... i've wanted one of these for years.

the redfly would help me be more productive at work so that i don't have to take time to go back and forth from my phone to my computer.
Will the connection be a Internet Sharing connection, subjecting you to the 5gb data limit?
The Redfly would allow me to work on my product formulas from excel on the train. This is impossible on the phone. Thereby increasing my work productivity. Thanks for the chance
Redfly would make a secondary computer unnecessary for work and make my already very handy Treo 700wx a complete package. The Treo is a great device, and the keyboard handy for short emails; but having a larger screen and keyboard would make the device fullfill the role of the "netbook" type of product without having to carry around duplicate data across multiple gadgets.
I'm a Sys Admin so I'll be able to take it pretty much everywhere I go and be able to VPN and remote in to our Servers and acces files. I'll most likely keep this in my car to have full web browsing access without having to take a laptop. If you travel alot, one good thing would be that if the TSA decided to inspect your "laptop" I mean Redly of course, they won't be able to get access to any data. I just hope that it comes with or that I can buy a cigarette adapter for my car and then I'll be in heaven. :D
The redfly will help me since I am a college student at William and Mary and I can take it to class along with my treo and use it to take notes and such and look cooler than the kids with the fancy tablet pcs (or almost as cool :o )
I went out and purchased a WM device just so I could eventually use a Redfly. Redfly will increase my productivity in and out of the classroom and allow me to more easily handle all the material I currently keep on my handheld that I normally have to transfer between home and school. Video presentations will be simplified for me, be it powerpoint or web based activities that are blocked from our school servers - but vital to a foreign language classroom.
Redfly will allow me to do work related web searches on sites that our network will not allow. Ex: I cannot search Amazon, at work, for computer books. So I can't answer the question from my supervisor about what resources I need to learn about and impliment a Datawarehouse.
OK... I wasn't going to post, but the more I think about the Redfly--or the Folio before it--the more I like the concept.

I'll be returning to school this fall--extreme career change--and plan on using my Tilt as my mobile PC. The Redfly would be perfect for this. Since I'll be commuting by motorcycle or bicycle the smaller size would be most welcome. Sure, I could use an Eee PC, but then my data wouldn't be in one convenient place, my pocket.
The Redfly combined with Windows Mobile Live Mesh services will do wonders for my productivity once they finally release the application for it.
While I have a Lenovo x61t tablet, which is powerful and relatively portable, it's not something I am willing to carry around with me or throw in a bag.

The Redfly would give me true portability and combined with a data plan on a smartphone, it gives me access to a lot of cloud apps as well as making my smartphone a useful document store.

I could do many of my MS Office tasks, read pdf documents, surf (to a point), and use cloud apps, etc.

Brings me back to the days when I carried around a Franklin (paper) Planner, but now I wouldn't have the associated fear of losing all my personal information if I left it behind somewhere.
The Redfly would be the answer to us folks who have to share a computer with others. I would just be able to whip out my 'fly' do my work at a table in the restaurant and go home before the other "computer hogs" I work with are even out of the office.
I konw other folks like us restaurant managers are in the same boat!
Redfly would limit the necessity to cart my laptop around on business trips. Only when I truly need the added capabilities of a full laptop would I have to cart it around, otherwise Redfly would work just fine.
As a professional writer, the Redfly will allow me to both write and research with my Treo 800w much faster and more conveniently. I've been dancing around getting a netbook for months, and this might be a better solution for me, especially once the Live Mesh client for Windows Mobile comes out.
Until it is fully compatable and able to run flash and play movies it won't go over
Redfly will help me in many ways:

- I can now ditch my laptop when traveling for leisure. Seriously, when on vacation my phone is perfect for doing what I want: email, web browsing, casual gaming
- It can help me type longer emails and maybe a document or two, I mean there's only so much one can handle typing on a Tilt keyboard...
- I will finally look at Lolcat pictures in my phone in high resolution glory!
As a IT admin, I have people who are on day trips and don't want to take their laptops out to job sites, this way they could take the Redfly and connect it to their mobile phone and do the work they need all without carrying a large bag.
save my eyesight from having to squint at my tiny smartphone screen
I'm always doing work on the road. I'm a road warrior of sorts. In the car, the hotel room, the cafe, the restaurant, the pool. I guess it's unhealthy to be working during what should be my relaxation and down time, but what can I say, that how I roll :)

I'm always lugging around my laptop, my broadband card, my AT&T Tilt, and my various cables (ac adapter, usb cords, and my mouse). I've gotten quite use to packing and re-packing all my gear whenever I need to get up and go. But, all that moving has taken a toll on my computer bag (it's worn out), my computer (it's worn out), and my shoulder (it's worn out). I've tried to do my work from my Tilt, but it's nigh impossible on that tiny display and cramped keyboard - don't get me wrong, the keyboard on the Tilt is great for emails and text messaging, but for serious writing or web-management, the Tilt's keyboard and display aren't going to cut it.

So, I'm relegated to toting my laptop and all my gear with me at all times. I've played with the idea of getting a Nokia Internet Tablet to help me be more productive with less weight, but even then, the display is too small and keyboard cramped.

When I first heard of the Celio REDFLY I thought it would be a perfect fit for my needs. I could use the 3G data speeds on my Tilt to its fullest potential. With a huge display and comfortable keyboard, the REDFLY essentially supplants my need for a laptop. I don't need powerful computing power, I just need to get online and hammer out some emails. With a Celio REDFLY I would need to carry just my handset, the REDFLY, and perhaps a couple chargers to keep everything juiced up - which is less of a concern than my laptop that now needs recharging every 50 minutes (it's worn out).

I need a REDFLY! Make it happen WMExperts! You guys rock!
I'm a central office school administrator, and my laptop can't connect to the individual networks when I visit my individual schools. The Redfly would enable me to be more efficient than using my Treo + bluetooth keyboard.
I would mount this thing to my bicycle's handlebars and uses it to update my real estate spreadsheets while cycling all over the city!

Environmentally sound, economically sound, good for my health, faster than driving and would totally redefine the term "mobile office"!

(helmet not included!)

Plus I promise to send photos and a non-trivial written report on the experience. :-)

\0/ Go redfly!
Great smartphone companion during meetings. No need to drag my laptop. No tethering needed. Hope Powerpoint would work with a projector - this would totally replace my laptop during trips.
First, the Redfly would help to feed my insatiable need for gadgets. Please feed the gadget monster in me!

Secondly, I travel around various accounts working on large Unix computers in data centers. To have the Redfly assist me on the computer room floor in researching fault symptoms, accessing information far too great in length for my Treo, and to handle more detailed emails than would be practicable for my Treo, all the while not having to breakout a laptop and finding a place to hook in, would totally make my job much easier. Thanks for sponsoring such a great thread!
Love the Redfly,
I've wanted one since I first heard of it. Since I travel and frequently get stuck in an airport waiting, I can think of a million uses for it.
The Redfly will allow me to demonstrate a new technology for my business customers that can save them money (IT hardware budget), provide easier security for their IT department and make their traveling employees very happy by eliminating bulk, weight, ac adapters and numerous gadgets. Help to increase the Windows Mobile marketshare for the best mobile O/S available today.

Also, as a byproduct will allow me to eliminate some of my customers using Blackberry solutions and replace with Windows Mobile solutions.
Redfly will help me because it's more efficient then carrying around a laptop and a Windows Mobile device. With Redfly, I just plug in my Sprint Mogul, and can utilize numerous programs and functions almost as though I'm using my laptop(though with far less power, size, and weight then having a full laptop with me).
The Redfly would provide the ultimate in mobility, allowing my company to travel light, while lowering the administrative costs of managing smartphones *and* laptops, and providing a perfectly usable desktop replacement with the power of today's high end Windows Mobile devices such as the Palm Treo 800w. I am very pleased to see 800w compatibility on the list.

My concern is, does it have a "dummy-on" function so that if TSA employees want to see it "turned on/functioning", there is a quick way to do so without stalling a security line or causing other delays while the smartphone is hooked up to it?
Redfly will help me stay productive while travelling for business and waiting for my planes to board.
A Redfly and the Treo 800w's RAM and ROM size would make apps like Softmaker's Office suite a reality at last.

I've always wanted to try them out, but was scared away by the installation footprint and the RAM requirement.
The excellent battery life will save me from always searching for a power outlet between meetings!

Plus it will help with those long plane flights when my batt dies!
Being able to travel with a mobile office...I will be able to be more productive. Also with my bad eyes and fat fingers...I don't have to squint or fuddle with those tiny keys on my mobile device.
My wife and I each have T-Mobile Dash smartphones and we travel quite a bit. Having a Redfly means that we can take a single Redfly with us on trips rather than separate notebooks.

We have been discussing the benefits of the Redfly and look forward to official support for the Dash. And while most bloggers fail to see the benefits of the Redfly, they are quite obvious to us.
How will the Redfly help me or my business?

It would be very useful, less weight to carry when I perform weddings. It would make me look like a super cool and only Reverend with a Redfly. Plus if I win this, I'd have one and the rest of you wouldn't :) so I'd be the King Of The Super Geeks!
I'm a student and a worker, so its twice the work fpor me. I really like the Redfly, it would be perfect for taking notes, and keeping me organized. for my work i'm constantly having to wright little notes to myself to remind me where I am, the Redfly could be perfect for me. By the way, WMExperts rule, thanks Dieter
Redfly will help my business by enabling a next generation of mobile worker - ones that do not need to be weighed down by "heavy" client, but need decent email/light document composition, and web browsing. This way, I can issue a phone (which they always have), and give them a Redfly; it the Redfly is lost or stolen, no data = no security hole = no front page of the paper. I was initially very lukewarm to the Foleo-esque device, but after seeing this, I am quite excited.
At work, we are scattered amoung several different buildings and often travel between buildings for meetings. I rarely take my laptop with me since it's bulky and a pain to travel with. A Redfly would enable me to forget about my laptop and carry it to the different sites. Let's face it, the smartphones are great devices, but I don't really like doing any real work on them because of the small screen and limited keyboard. Redfly would open up a whole new world and make my Tilt even more useful and powerful.
I would love nothing more thatn to be totally geeked out. But to be honest it would be great to have a consolidated system with a large screen. Right now I carry a Windows Mobile Phone and X51v Axim. With the RedFly's large screen and much longer battery and so much more it would be much more productive with e-mails, document editing, presentations. And nothing would be finer thatn having a huge screen for browsing. In addition my daughter would be able to watch moves and shows from the MCE on trips and when she was bored.
I am really curious to see how this and the Tilt will work. I think it is a step in the right direction. As to how the redfly would help me, (I'm in the Navy, and don't have a business), it would bring me closer to the goal of my smartphone replacing my computer. I already use my Tilt to listen to podcasts, watch movies, read books, email, and browse the web. If I had a Redfly, I could go on travel or vacation without bringing a laptop. Even better, when I go back to a ship and go out to sea, it would be make my Tilt an even better multimedia device.

The REDFLY would:
1) Help me take notes for school
2) Save my eyes from the small screen on my PN-820 Smartphone.
This will definitely help me once I have my Treo 800w and it is compatible. I love a fornt facing qwerty keyboard, but to have a full size device when I am not on the go would be stellar. In addition, my eyes ain't so good! (and neither is my grammar, apparently)
The Red fly would save me from having to keep files synced on my computer and my Sprint touch. I can save the files I need to travel with on the sd card and access them from my computer in the office and on the touch with big screen and keyboard on the road. I would be able to usea desktop in the office instead of lesser performing laptop and have the Redfly for travel out of the office with my insurance business.

I love the idea of not having to sync files all the time.. Thanks
The Redfly would help me by letting me leave my laptop in my room and browse the internet on my phone during class instead of my laptop.
If I were to to win the REDFLY, I would be able to browse without time-consuming scrolling. I will also be able to communicate with my family much faster.
I travel quite for training and while conducting investigations for my agency.

Due to ever-increasing restrictions on the use of department-owned computers (read: internet), Redfly will probably allow me to keep my job and continue to travel with only my company laptop and my Samsung SCH-i760.

A very intriguing tool, for sure.
The Redfly would allow me to work on more of my short stories, articles, and interviews that I put off til I get to a workable environment. Its instant-on features would save me valuable time.....and if I won one, it would save me valuable dollars, which would contribute to my bottomline and my overall good nature. I lust after this little gem.
The Redfly will reduce the weight of my backpack while hiking across campus, because I won't have to carry my laptop.
“How will the Redfly help me or my business?”

It will give me back a full keyboard... :'( Since my brother is playing the drums at the room with our only computer, I have to be online with my Windows Mobile Phone all the time (little plastic keyboard ).

(Yes, haveing such a phone and no PC is geeky - but I love it) ;)
How will the Redfly help me or my business? It will allow me to be productive no matter where I am. Typing out memos and emails on a smartphone is not easy.

September 1st is my birthday!
I'm fast approaching the "double nickel" in age and my poor old eyes have a problem with the small fonts on the phone. This would definately help me!
I am on the road 4 days a week. Redfly would help me stay connected and be more productive while on the road; plus it would save my back, thumbs, and pocketbook.

Back = 3lbs lighter than laptop
Thumbs = not typing on phone all the time
Pocketbook = it will be free if I win :-)
oh, i would FEEL and look so COOL with the REDFLY!! especially since i think i'm about to be homeless in so many words and this dinasour doesn't belong to me. i hope we work things out and i especially hope i am the owner of a REDFLY in the near future! good luck to all!! (if cool isn't cool to say anymore, sorry!)
“How will the Redfly help me or my business?” it will help me by having a decent enough size terminal to use anywhere in the house so I don;t have ot drag my laptop and bag from room to room
How will the Redfly help me or my business?

Currently I am tour guide in the Sedona AZ area. I am trying to start an online business, but being constantly mobile I am able to only carry small devices, usually my phone. The Redfly is mobile enough that when I have ten minutes wherever I am I could sit down and get some work done on my web business. I also want to prove that a modern smart phone is powerful enough to replace a full computer, and a Redfly is the only attachment needed for this.

Thank you.
How will the Redfly help me or my business?

I won't have to purchase that dreaded iPhone for a usable internet experience on my smartphone. ;)
I currently own a small IT consulting firm. I get called many times during the day to fix minor issues. In order to accomplish these minor tasks, I have to park, grab my laptop, tether my Treo and connect to a TS connection to take care of the problem. With the Redfly, that would make doing this 5 times faster since the Treo is capable of initiating a TS session.
I mostly use my laptop to do some publication service work.

There will be one fewer heavy item to haul around in addition to my phone. There's an old Heinlein story that involves a travel trunk that doesn't weigh much but unfolds (via hyperspace, apparently) into acres and acres of storage. This is about as close to that as one could currently get.
How will the Redfly help me or my business?

The large display will make it possible to take notes in the many meetings I attend. My stowaway keyboard solves the keyboard problem, but the larger display would help immensely. Instant on makes this better than a laptop for this and many other uses.
The RedFly would help me with my vision in seeing my smartphone better so I'm not accidentally opening the wrong program or calling the wrong contact (such as John A. and Jon A. The screen looks amazing!

--James
I can't use any webmail at my client, so I must rely on my Touch Cruise to check e-mail. It's ok for reading, but it's a pain to use if I have to compose a longer message. The RedFly would allow me to do it faster and more comfortably.
I'd stop carrying around my useful, but huge, laptop.
Redfly would prevent me from needing to buy a laptop/ netbook, since everything I'd use one for is possible on my smartphone (just need the bigger screen and keyboard). Redfly would keep me from needing to get a new phone out of boredom (damn upgrade-itis) until Nova/ WM7/ Android are released since I'd have another toy to play with.
Redfly would allow me to leave my laptop in the office. I am a police officer assigned to a cybercrime unit. It is mandatory for me to stay connected. I always have my Treo but don't always have my laptop. This would be great for when I don't have my laptop but need to send out long emails or complete Word documents in the field.
The Redfly would let me stay mobile all day. I work full time and am a part time student, so having the battery life that the Redfly offers would allow me to use my smartphone all day without constantly being tied to a power outlet.
I am a "road warrior" attorney. The Redfly would enable me to quickly open it up to take notes and make scheduling changes in court, depositions and meetings.
I am currently a premed student and this would help me immensely with note taking. Currently, I'm having to drag around my laptop and books, which is killing me. Being able to just keep my phone and the Redfly would help lighten my load and help me stay connected with my study group at the same time.
I see immediate potential for using Redfly, the greatest being the portability of a larger screen without the start-up wait of a laptop. It extends the already available resources of my HTC Mogul, permitting me to keep it as my primary tool for mobile computing. The battery life insures that I will productive for my entire work day. Very, very slick device.
Definitely love the idea of me being able to lookup medical info using a larger screen while seeing patients in clinic. Also would be great for travel to medical conferences or just about anywhere to do work related email, medical info and simple internet searches all w/ a larger screen than my ATT Tilt.
I'm also what seems to be the millionth student... so in addition to the added benefit this will have on that part of my life, I am in charge of a music program, requiring PowerPoints twice a week. I will have my own kinda-laptop now, instead of using their crappy laptop!
It will help me to do school-related work with Word on a much bigger screen. It will also help me to take notes and send emails easily instead of doing it on my crappy keyboard.
As a student and IT worker, I can use this to view Powerpoint notes in greater detail using Softmaker's Powerpoint application as well as view desktops in greater detail through Logmein.
It would be awesome not having to carry my laptop with me on trips just for basic email and other web related tasks.
As well as not having to be lugging around their laptops all the time, our Windows Mobile PDA phone users can have these extra benefits provided by an associated REDFLY :

1) REDFLY's much larger screen, resolution and keyboard allows phone to be used like a small laptop but with much longer battery life and nearly instant-on;
2) USB memory keys and external hard drives can be plugged into REDFLY and used on PDA phone including for easy backup of PDA phone data;
3) Phone can be placed optimally for cell/WiFi reception with REDFLY located in front of user (greatly reducing user's electromagnetic field exposure to phone's cell/WiFi radio signals).
The redfly seems like the perfect companion for short business trips. I alwasy have my mobile phone with me... if I could carry the redfly instead of my laptop it would be great! While I have tried to do email and such on my XV6800, the keyboard and larger screen of the Redfly would make the task much easier.
The Redfly would most definitely help me with data entry on my 8525, as even though it has a nice slide out keyboard its still a bit small for large amounts of data when on the go. Also with a great resolution screen the Redfly would give me the opportunity to really enjoy browsing the internet with my data connection as my phone's 2.8" screen is only 240x320 and not that great when it comes to non mobile sites.
First, it will help my back as I won't need to carry the laptop around as often.
Second, it will help my home life like when I have to remote desktop into a machine at work from my daughter's softball game to fix someone elses problem. (sigh)
Third it will help my ego as I can carry it into meetings and have everyone go, "What's that?!?". (he-he)
I am an independant Windows Mobile software developer. I will use the Redfly to show my work to rospective customers and to show finished products to the users.

Additionally, I hope to use it with my Slingbox to watch Television programs on a screen large enough to see them well.

Dick
I could use because my house is so far out we cant get DSL. no need for a real computer with this great redfly.
I can envision using Redfly as a laptop replacement when used with remote desktop. It would be nice to carry around a Redfly instead of a full blown laptop when traveling.
OK. I admit it, I'm a bit vain. Redfly is sleek, sexy, and small enough to fit in my handbag but large enough to give me great access to my smart phone. It provides me the benefits of using a laptop without lugging one around. I can already hear all the questions I'll be fielding about my hip little Redfly!
The Redfly is a great tool, in that it will enable me to complete work as I travel, without having to lug around my huge laptop. It has great battery life, and is a great addition to any hard core Windows Mobile user.

Suck it iPhone. Look what I can do....
I think this has the potential to be the next biggest thing in PDA's. Honestly looking at this, I see this as the 95% replacement to my Laptop computer. I could do most of what I do now on my PDA if I had the large screen and "full-er" size keyboard!

Good luck to everyone in the contest! If I don't win, I'm sure I'll be sucker enough to buy one!
I think that the Redfly will allow me to fully utilize all of the features of my Mogul. I was tempted to just sell the Mogul and get an EVDO flip phone to tether to my notebook for only $15.00 per month on the new Sprint Plan. I am getting tired of the small screen and slider keyboard.
With the Redfly, I just might keep it. It appears to be small enough to take everywhere and big enough to actually open a spreadsheet.
I guess I could save the $15.00 per month which means, the Redfly will have paid for itself in approximately only 33.26 months. Hey, at the new price
($399), it's only 26.6 months.
Deal
The REDFLY will help in the trade. I am a Beer guy who is trulely mobile- laptop, portable printer, aircard, and HTC WM device. REDFLY would help eliminate the weight of my laptop bag and let me ultilize my WM device the way it was intended. I can't wait to use windows mobile office on the REDFLY.
If RedFly can connect to a WM6 device via Bluetooth without losing any display refreshing speed, that would give the best experience! You just need to use the RedFly as a laptop, and your WM6 phone in your pocket or in the belt pouch would do all the processing.
It will help me stay organized and in touch with my work, since my job wont get me a laptop or a pc in the warehouse that i run, always having to run inside to use the pc.
The Redfly looks like a perfect companion device to use with my ATT Tilt running Handbase. I have a database with thousands of records that I use all day (I am a Physician and I have developed a mobile EMR system using Windows Mobile devices). At the end of the day, I am feeling the eye strain. I am hoping that the Handbase program fills up the entire Redfly screen. Celio, my eyes thank you!
I'm a mobile professional who relies on my smartphone. Currently, my Palm device doesn't allow me to view certain documents (mostly .pdfs) in full screen layout in a font large enough that I can read the text. because of the larger screen, an iPhone could allow me to read .pdfs, but I don't like the touchscreen keyboard and don't want to change my carrier. Redfly is a perfect solution in that it will give me a larger keyboard and screen, doesn't require a mobile wireless card (like for a laptop), and enables me to keep my current smartphone and data plan.
Sprint has recently reduced its PAM pricing, but while I was paying the $40/mth for the service, it didn't work well with my Mogul. The REDFLY would be a great way to capitalize on the Mogul's built-in MS Office, Rev A EVDO, and various other features.
How will the Redfly help me or my business?

By allowing me to not have to squint at some of the tiniest screens on the planet!
This would be great for traveling when a full laptop isn't exactly necessary, but having a nice big screen and the possibility of doing basic Powerpoints from it make it a nice option at 2 pounds versus an average of almost 5 pounds for most business laptops.
This redfly thing is pretty cool. I can think of so many ways it could help me and how much fun it could be. First of all i can show off to all the iphone users. This device will definitely help me while i travel. I travel a lot and i hate carrying around so many devices around with me. now all i would need is redfly and my phone. it will definitely help me keep organized by having all my appointments and documents at one place instead of different computers and laptops.
redfly looks pretty nifty. i could def use one. make all my friends hella jealous too. gimme gimme! laters.
I could finally carry a purse to work instead of lugging the huge backpack with my laptop and all of my cables in it. I'd love to carry a pretty purse that could fit this wonderful Redfly.
I can finally type on a WM device!
I would love to have one of these to do school work on as an option for not carrying my large, 17" laptop all of the time.

I could also use this in my consulting business for pulling up Web sites and even coding.
I would use the Redfly for school. It's so hard to lug around a huge laptop just to take notes for my master's degree. I would love to be able to just go ahead and type out my notes on the Redfly. Ok, not to mention I'd be totally cool and stuff...

I'm a student with a penchant for keeping all work organised on a single tablet pc, and have been using HTC Advantage with its gorgeous 5" VGA real estate together with SSH tunneling / MS RDP Remote Desktop to access my laptop from about anywhere in the country, to do the occasional coding, random surfing, email and IM (yes, a complete chat history log is a must for me) afforded by an unlimited HSPDA connection.

While serviceable and rather useful, the limited battery life of about 2 hrs while doing all that is a huge issue, the (relatively) small screen inhibits reflexes trained on larger screens, and packing a mouse, keyboard, external USB battery pack everytime the train pulls up at the station I'm getting off at takes planning to execute flawlessly and more often than not, fails miserably in a tangle of wires and gadgets.

This Redfly solution really gives a liberal sprinkling of icing on my cake by packing in a WVGA monitor, a battery pack, mouse, keyboard into a compact frame, with two USB ports to boot. How would it not help me? Desperately trying to get my hands on one! (:
The redfly helps me work well anywhere without my laptop, especially in airport or other outdoor place.
I actually like having "most" of my business needs on my phone but do find it limiting for some tasks (I would never try to type a lengthy email or even edit a document/spreadsheet on my mobile). This would take care of almost everything I need to do outside of the office w/o lugging my laptop with me. Sweet!
As an active duty Marine, microsoft office is the current standard. The Redfly would allow me to have access to all of my pertinant files without having to haul around my whole office. Whether it is in a meeting with my superiors, or at a higher headquarters, with my HTC touch and the Redfly I would have everything I need and be ready for anything. I believe it would also be a perfect fit for field work as well. I have spent many hours researching and reading about the Redfly and feel that it is comletely rugged and should not be impacted by the various environments I am prone to work in.

As for informational security, I can maintain my information on my phone/handheld while using a bluetooth connection and not worry about misplacing or losing my data. I believe that the Redfly would be an incredible value that is sure to greatly inhance the mobility and productivity of my occupation.
How will the Redfly help me or my business?

You mean, of course, -- in addition to sticking it to the friends of mine that have succumbed to the dark side and bought an iPhone?

I'd still carry my laptop when I go travelling about, but, it would probably stay in the car for most of the day and come out to sit next to the redfly -- The redfly would be kind of like having a second monitor -- one for work (laptop) and one for personal stuff (redfly) without my corporate mother constantly watching over me. Sort of like virtualizing without actually having to play the silly network tricks.

Of course, what would be most excellently nice is having the redfly client be available as SOFTWARE and a window on a pc/laptop -- much like you'd do with a virtualized window with vmware/virtualbox/xen/virtual-pc -- having the ability for a window with unfeddered network access sit within a corporate laptop/desktop environment. The hardware is quite slick, but the Redfly software is the real magic. Then, full keyboard, full functionality, without the extra weight. An 800x600 VGA application window on a 1024x768 or 1280x1024 laptop via bluetooth/usb/network or activesync choices seems like the real killer app for me.

[*]I'd like being able to commute places using my bicycle with something lighter than a laptop in my messenger bag. Decreased Weight FTW
[*]I'd like being able to administrate my Corporate Servers using ssh tunneling/Windows Remote Desktop/VPN solution so I can unhose servers on the fly.
[*]I'd enjoy thumbing my nose that much harder at the iPhone/iTouch/mac hipster set. Yeah, let's see your iPhone do THIS!
[*]It would be nice to be able to access non-work related, side-job related information/data/sites from a network other than my corporate network.
[*]Did I mention how nice it would be to work sans-laptop?
[*]I would use it with a fox. I would use it with a guy named Cox.
[*]I would keep it away from pets and small children, so as not to cause genetic mutations that would eventually turn into superpowers.

Redfly would be a tremendous tool for my business and my personal life. I drive around 700 miles per week to my clients so I spend a lot of time in my car and all kinds of offices. I would not have to carry or use my laptop as much and just use my Q9m and the Redfly to do everything I need with an always on high speed internet connection. What a great tool! I have an upcoming business trip and would love to have the Redfly along for the flight! This looks like such a great complement to any smartphone. Plus, it would be another cool gadget to own!
How will the Redfly help me or my business?

With REDFLY, I will use both hands on its large screen and full keyboard to fully access my smartphone and get the job done while talking to someone on my smartphone using bluetooth headset.
This is an easy way to make presentations on the road without a laptop.
With REDFLY’s two USB ports I will connect a mouse, charge my smartphone directly from REDFLY’s battery, or access data on my USB Flash drives.
Thanks to REDFLY’s large screen and full keyboard, I can use my smartphone more and my laptop less. Most people don’t take full advantage of their smartphone’s high-speed data connection, powerful hardware and robust applications due to the limitations of smartphones’ tiny screens and cumbersome keyboards.
With REDFLY it makes easy to type long emails, check attachments, work with spreadsheets (I'm tired of read small spreadsheets cells), make presentations, view websites, fully utilize CRM applications and connect to remote servers, desktops and applications from anywhere using the smartphone’s data connection.
And the REDFLY's keyboad: now I will write as faster as in a laptop or desktop, and there is not way to compare with the slooooow writting speed in a smarphone keyboard or screen keyboard.
How will the Redfly help me or my business?

This is so close to my perfect device in so many ways.

I don't need one of the new net books. Even they are over powered when all I really need on the road is a browser, email and something to take notes (Onenote mobile does this fine).

What I really want is something like my smartphone because it is an always on lightweight device that does all of the above. But it needs a bigger screen and bigger keyboard but of course as soon as you do that you can't just slip it into your pocket.

So this is perfect. The phone stays in my pocket so is out of sight and out of mind, the Redfly IS my laptop and as my phone already has all the applications I need on the road/train/air I think we are getting really close to perfection.

So will it help me? As a business tool 100% it will and at the end of the day I can slip this away and still have all the data etc in my pocket.

Now all I need is that MS Mesh client and we are cooking on gas :D
I run a computer repair business. My laptop is nice and all but I would really like something lighter. I purchased a Tilt because it had the hardware keyboard but I found it to be too small. I agree with Mark as well, I'm on the mesh and it would be awesome to be able to use that full sized keyboard to be able to access my files. If I had the $ I'd buy one right away. My biggest question is this: I've heard that the Redfly can charge the phone. What is the average battery life of the Redfly if it's also charging the phone?

Oh yeah: PleaseOhPleaseOhPlease let me win!
I already use my XV6800 as my preferred device for browsing, messaging, music and video. Redfly would make my cell a work tool as well. Goodbye laptop.
For those trips when the smartphone is smart enough but not big enough.
When the laptop is big ENOUGH but not light enough or quick enough.
The Redfly is just big enough, just fast enough and just dumb enough
To get the job done in time.
How will a Redfly help with my Business?

I can see it helping in travel. Not getting out my laptop for certain things would be very nice. I already have put much of my data on my data card. With the ability to VPN to my network drive in the house I keep most files available for my trips. A Redfly would make it much easier to view and edit those documents.

Second, the screen on the Redfly is larger than my Tilt. I used to use a Palm Lifedrive for videos on flights. The tilt lets me do everything on the cell phone. The Redfly will let me show the videos on a larger screen. This could certainly apply to presentations. I used the lifedrive for this in "elevator" presentations. The Redfly is not much larger than the lifedrive, and it includes the keyboard. Although, I have to admit that there was always a "cool" factor from people seeing me open the folding keyboard and work on the lifedrive.

Finally, the screen on the tilt is not really big enough for good car navigation. I can see using the redfly for GPS navigation.
The redfly will help me by allowing me to use my Sprint Touch to its abilities of a decent processor and memory while minimizing its limitations of a small screen and no keyboard. It would be great on the go and keep me from having to have a desktop, laptop and a pocket pc.
I love my new Treo 800w, but Redfly would be a great companion to be more productive and entertained without the addition of yet another desktop or laptop to sync with. In addition, it would add much functionality while still being light enough to carry in my bag.
The RedFly would help me by ditching my laptop and allowing me to become a true mobile warrior :D
As well as not having to be lugging around their laptops all the time, Windows Mobile PDA phone users can also do all the following with an associated REDFLY ...

REDFLY's much larger screen, resolution and keyboard allows phone to be used like a small laptop but with much longer battery life and nearly instant-on. Allows Remote Desktop to office PC which is not really usable on the PDA phone's small screen. Similarly great for using GPS/mapping software.

USB memory keys and external hard drives can be plugged into REDFLY and used on PDA phone including for easy backup of PDA phone data;

Phone can be placed optimally for cell/WiFi reception with REDFLY located in front of user (greatly reducing user's electromagnetic field exposure to phone's cell/WiFi radio signals).
How will the Redfly help me?

I'm an attorney, and I need to make multiple, complicated changes to my schedule regularly. Being able to do so on the larger screen/keyboard would speed things up to the point that I won't have to carry a paper calendar and transpose updates to my Treo later.

Also, with the larger screen, I could ditch the code books from my court bag and use the Redfly to look up any statutes I need.

Finally, since I'm a public defender, I'd need a free Redfly because they don't pay us well enough to buy them for ourselves!
How will it help me? In so many ways. How about allowing me to surf the web on my WinMo device for more than about 2 hours. Opening PDF documents and read without scrolling like mad. Being able to type a full length email without typos all the time. Being able to access another storage card by just plugging into the USB port. It's a bit spendy, but it looks like just what I have been looking for!
I have had to take a notebook across country several times a year when looking for a job. At the same time, I have an ATT Tilt and it seems redundant to have both devices. When I saw the Red Fly, I thought that this is the solution to my problem of having two devices that can do the same thing. I usually write follow-up letters after the interview and the Red Fly can help me to do it with the Tilt and Word Mobile.
Redfly will simplify the day to day operations of 25 senior executive and our IT staff of 5 professionals. Our entire organization use Windows Mobile devices. We are also 100% laptop based, by using redfly, i will eliminate at least 10 laptops (executives with 2 or more laptops), reducing my support costs, increasing efficiencies.
In the end, this product could potentially revolutionize how we operate our business.
Redfly seems like the natural replcement for all of the laptops floating around the office. Personally I would use a Redfly for note taking in meetings, answering emails and couch surfing. The Foleo would have been a more full featured device, but Redfly at least keeps it simple.
This devise will simplify my life by not taking my 17in laptop and it's external battery. I need redfly so that I can see my small screen of my sprint mogul to a Windows remote desktop connection for work. I will show all my coworker and am sure they will beg me to set it up on there phone.
Can't wait to try one. Was looking into a device to allow bluetooth connection to my tilt to present powerpoint shows. This looks like the device. Will be more useful than dedicated playmate.
Man, just what I have been waiting for. Will be a great addition to my new WM6.1 Treo 800.
How will the Redfly help me or my business?

It is Red, and it can fly. How can it NOT help me and my business?
Redfly will help me type faster than on my Q9c, while keeping my laptop in it's laptop bag.
The Redfly will allow me to travel without the laptop, but providing a display on which I can share powerpoint presentations with customers, without a laptop. It'll also help out at the airport check points, provided those geniuses recognize that it's not a computer and want it removed from the bag. It'll also make all of the email responses at the end of the day easier (when the laptop is back at home).

Plus, being a technology sales rep, it will give the impression that I and my company are really cutting edge in technology, regardless of the fact that most of our IT staff can't figure out how I've been accessing email from my phone for the last 5 years.
As a youth pastor I am always on the go. This would help tremendously with reviewing lessons, keeping track of my kids etc. Not to mention, it's just plain cool!
How will the Redfly help me or my business?

As a student of Computer Science, the Redfly will give me the flexibility and functionality to work on my homework at any location without having to carry around a bulky laptop along with my 300 lbs of textbooks. It's larger screen will allow me more ability to utilize my smartphone's PC remoting capabilities expanding the possibilites of working on assignments involving non-smarthphone programs, coding HTML and other programs, etc. through my smartphone on my home PC.
The redfly will change my life, both professionally and privately...it will allow us "ham-fisted" guys to get the most out of our WM Pro devices while on the job, and save me from dragging out the traditional laptop while traveling with my girlfriend...
The Redfly would change my life by making my smartphone even more capable than it is already. It might even be able to keep me from needing my laptop most of the time.
I travel a great deal but often carrying my 5 lb Dell notebook with short battery life and typical five minute Windows boot ujp time is impractical. This magical little thing is tiny, instant on and works great with ppc 6800's. What a productivity tool it would be.
I would love a redfly.... slap a couple of movies on my winmo memory card and it would make a perfect airplane tray table companion.
This will help me to stay in touch with my family, friends and school.
I can email my vacation pics to my family and email my friends where we go out for dinners. Of course I already can do those on my smartphone, but it would be easier to work on the bigger qwerty keyboard and bigger screen.
For school, I can send my homework to my professors, check my blackboard from school's website for homework, announcements and emergency alerts.
I also like to surf internet on my phone, this device will help me to do more stuff like online purchase and check out the blogs and myspace. Phewww, this is like my short essay for school already. Hehehe, hope I can win. Thanks. WMexperts ROCKS.
The Redfly will be a huge help with my business. I'm a solo attorney, who spends a LOT of time waiting in courthouses. While I keep up with as much as possible with my 800w, word processing is not realistic. At least for legal docs. But, with a Redfly, and the big, beautiful screen, PocketWord can really become a useful productivity app for me. And, lenghy email responses are now much easier!

Man, I just wish it was cheaper. But, now that I think about it, free is pretty cheap!!
instead of lugging two separate devices around, a wm smartphone and a windows notebook, which need constant synchronization, why not just carry one? I could keep all my documents on my phone and pull out the redfly whenever I need to do some serious editing.
How will RedFly help me or my Business?

I plan to use it on Studio Lots, Los Angeles Coffee Shops, and as a 'dog-food' proof of concept real world example of Windows Mobile as a laptop replacement. Demonstrating how I can manage my business and remotely support my entire customer base from anywhere without the need of a laptop or a power outlet. It's too bad more people don't really get what you can do with Windows Mobile ala 7 years ago, that new phones are just now offering. Ok, enough WinMo cool aid. Speaking of drinking the cool aid, try suggesting sometime the iPhone 'lacks' anything and see how the happy music, environmentally friendly, peace love and happiness crowd gets :) Wow!, try it sometime and see what happens, remember it could be dangerous ;)
