Many years ago, I was travelling on an intercity 125 train from Manchester to London, in first class, on business. This was in the time of the Brick phone, on analogue networks, and only the very rich or very lucky business users had mobile phones.


A particularly strident, whiney woman fashion buyer had spent over an hour talking on her phone, in a compartment full of about 75 people in her loudest voice, andf I was certain she was deliberately annoying all of us with her rudeness.


In the gap between calls, I walked up the carraige, asked her if I could see her phone for a moment (pretending it was for interest at such a wonderful thing) and smashed it beneath my brogues shoes into tiny pieces.


I wrote out a cheque for the value of the phone, and was applauded back to my seat by fellow passengers.


I travel in the "Quiet Compartment" (where phones, music playing devices of all sorts and notebook computers are banned) nowadays.


Pity the contest for funny mobile phone stories appears to have ended !!!!!!
