AT&T Tilt 2

Looks like some internal AT&T docs regarding the Tilt 2 (aka the HTC Touch Pro 2) are making the rounds (pocketnow apparently received the same stuff), but boy, are they filled with good stuff.

First off, it says the Tilt 2 would be announced Oct. 5 (true) and will be in stock on Oct. 8 (matches the BGR rumor), then finally in stores Oct. 18 (again, another date we've heard).

Also of note is that there's a tethering option in the list of data plans that runs $60 with a 5-GB cap. (Is that new for AT&T? Anyone?)

Peep the rest of the package after the break.

Wow, that's a real bum pounding on the tethering. Glad I'm on Verizon. The tethering has worked since day 1 on my TP2 with my $30 unlimited data plan (that I get a 19% discount on, so it's my $24.30 data plan :P).

Tethering works on the AT&T $30 data plan, it just isn't in the rules. Meaning in theory you could get caught and kicked if you were discovered, but many people do it with no harm. I don't know if that is what you are doing on VZN or if they actually allow tethering on your $30 plan, but its good to know either way.

I tether without problem on my $10/month unlimited Data Plan running on my WM Phone on AT&T's 3G network too :)

one question....WHERE THE HELL IS THE TELLME APP!!!??
it was supposed to be released with market place.

In AT&T's competitive chart, since they list T-Mobs MyFavs, shouldn't they be listing Sprint's Any Mobile-to-mobile? I think that one is huge. Of course, maybe expensive AT&T isn't wanting people to think about that competitive option.

Yea and they should also list their own A-List as an AT&T Advantage, which still isn't as good as Sprint's advantage but it is noteworthy.

Jason

The Tell me app was most likely removed sense M$ will be pulling it in Dec. No the data cap is not really new. It came about the same time they no longer allowed removing the data package on new PDA accounts.

You're clearly confusing "Tell Me" with "Recite". The latter was a technology preview and is being pulled in December. The former was a company that Microsoft bought and is not implementing their software on newer devices.

The Sprint Samsung Intrepid is the first WM6.5 device to launch and include "Tell Me". It is not on the TP2 probably due to costs: it is something extra to be licensed out, much like Voice Command.

BTW, cute on the "M$"...isn't that a little 4th grade though in 2009?

+1 on being childish...

O.K. the GSM TP2s have the 7201a processor and the CDMA TP2s have the 7600a? Are the radio and cpu chips on one die?

Same CPU, only the 7600 one is for CDMA and the 7200 is for GSM.

The tethering and the cap aren't new. I've had this since January 2008 on my Tilt.

I like the comparisons here showing plusses and minuses of the various versions, but the one thing that I don't agree with is the "AT&T Optimized Keyboard" being a plus. I know other people have different opinions, but I am looking forward to using my T-Mo Touch Pro 2 on my plan mainly because of the keyboard, and when I sell it to purchase the AT&T version, if I can buy a HTC replacement keyboard for the other versions than the AT&T version, I would be more than happy to swap them out.

Jason

Yes, tethering has been a part of AT&T's rate plan list for a while now.

BTW AT&T, having an "AT&T optimized keyboard" is NOT an advantage. What ever the corp execs are smoking that makes them swear by it, I wanna tote.

I still want the thing tho, damn you HTC for making such a sexy beast.

What is refered to as "other channels" that begin selling on Oct 8th? Also what is AT&T COR?.

It's our understanding that COR is "company owned retail" store. Just guessing, "other channels" would be online sources such as AT&T's website or their Premiere Site.

Do you think this will be just for order tomorrow through ATT? Or will there be an option for Amazon and the likes?

Newbie here. What is tethering?

Tethering is using your phone to provide a data connection for your laptop.

So what are the other channels by which we can get this phone tomorrow?

Why do we care if it is in stock when it doesn't go on sale for 2 more weeks? So we can "pre-order" them?

For what it's worth, I called a couple of stores here in Washington state. One an AT&T store, the other an authorized reseller. Both commented on not selling tomorrow. Neither said NO they wouldn't be selling it though. The AT&T store said the 18th was more probable than the 8th. The authorized dealer didn't even think it was for sale in the corporate section yet.

I visited an ATT store here in Denver yesterday. They didn't have the PURE (geesh, it went on sale yesterday and they don't have it???) and the sales guy did acknowledge the Tilt2 availability "towards the end of October". So not sure why ATT is stating the Tilt2 is available tomorrow???????

TRUE! I've been harassing my local AT&T store in Central Washington to order this for me asap for a few days now. I went in after reading this article and they said they had one on order for me and it will be in by noon on the 8th! I'm pumped.

Why is ATT being so confusing on this? Why cant they just sell the phone to EVERYONE if it is ready?

I want to know what "other channels" means and I swear if it is for Premier accounts only, Ill be extremely ticked off. That just might be what it takes to send me over to Verizon. Its bad enough they are charging much more for this phone than any other carrier.

What's funny is that the ATT rep I talked to admitted that he, too, believes ATT will not release a great, touchscreen phone like the Tilt2 and the upcoming LEO earlier than the competitors is due to it's financial partnership with Apple. They're afraid to upset Apple!

I wasn't expecting the Tilt2 to be in the store but the Pure? Hello, didn't it say they would be available on the 6th?

I'm currently off-contract with ATT and have an unlocked Diamond2....I'll be really looking at Verizon if they get the LEO.

People

Tilt2 is indeed available from 8th Oct for Premier customers only!!!!Not available in any of the stores but from online

I just laughed when i read the competition docs. no 3.5 jack, visual voicemail, pricey, just admitting it all.

then, there they say all that nice bloatware that i will never use is quite an advantage. all that extra storage would be the better advantage. and i agree that the 'ATT optimized' keyboard is just dumb. there's my two cents and rant against the tilt 2.

at least they did the same thing with touch pro fuze and kept it largely stock looking.

The BB Storm2 is where it's at. Who could ask for a more complete phone. You just can not compare this phone to it.

you said you tether with your $10 data plan, I have a $30.00 data but I have no clue how its done
