Touch Pro 2 just to advanced and lightweight for you?  Never warmed up to Windows Mobile 5, 6, 6.1 or 6.5?  Does lack of 3G, a massive 128MB of RAM and nearly 3.6hrs of talk time sound amazing?

Then fork over $350 because have we the phone for you!  That's right, the Audiovox PPC-6601 is cutting edge technology for today's trendsetter and it is now available to order direct from Sprint.  (It was spotted on TV in this season's "Alias" making this device especially coveted for Abrams fans).

Impress your friends! Considering this phone is nearly an ounce heavier (7.35oz) than a Touch Pro 2, you will surely be the life of the party when you show up with this in your pants.  "Wow, is that the Internet...in your pocket?"

There is also a rumor that this phone will be getting a firmware update from Sprint to enable EvDO, a revolutionary new radio technology that will enable high-speed data transfer akin to your DSL line at home.  Some in fact have already "hacked" this onto their phones already.  We know Sprint won't disappoint with this update!

However, be warned. We are already hearing rumors of a replacement device called a PPC-6700 aka Apache with a revolutionary new OS from Microsoft.  Stay tuned...

Thanks Richardrk

Oooohhhhhhh......Ahhhhhhhhhhh

And don't forget the auto memory wipe feature. Every time the battery goes dead or pops off the back when its massive size causes you to drop it everything and I mean everything it completely wiped from the device. Reset to factory new you don't even have to press a button. If you want to keep that all important word document you have been working on you better be sure you have enough battery to make it to an outlet after your flight.

lol, yeah but didn't it have a watch-sized backup battery? The Axims did.

Although the Memory system for WM2003 was volatile, it sure was fast!

DO. WANT. POWER!

aww, man. Another Palm Pre ripoff?

OOPS!

OH and dont forgt to ask for the 6600 if you want the camera

Why is this on here? And 128MB of RAM was incredible at that time, maybe 2 other Windows Mobile devices had it at the time. There were 2 generations after that phone that went down to 64MB before going back up to 128MB with the Kaiser and 288MB with the Touch Pro and Touch Pro 2.

Still funny that this is in their system after all this time. But I have to admit, I rather wish there were some decent portrait sliders available for WinMo. Or just in general for smart phones (besides the lovely Pre).

The 128mb was actually split between RAM and ROM, through software tweaks you could allocate more towards your preference - so this thing could really fly for its time, but if you had it loaded up, could also drag.

I still have mine from 2004 and it's hilariously large. I call it "The Frisbee". I actually sized it up next to my TP2 earlier and it was just hilarious to see how much bigger it was.

Other comical notes about the Blue Angel: 3.5" screen... QVGA. Can you imagine that today? The "hard resets when battery is removed" is very real and that "feature" drove me crazy (it's a result of having no dedicated ROM, as mentioned earlier).

But in the end, this was the device that really got me into Windows Mobile - so it's great to see the call out to it here (but odd that it's still available on Sprint...).

In the memory screen there was a slider where you can switch between program and storage. It would also automatically adjust if needed to. If you didn't put anything on the phone, you can move the slider to almost all program memory. Just install everything to SD, that is what I always did with my Pre-WM5 Windows Mobile devices.

Well done. I actually double checked the date on this post half way through reading it to verify snark presence.

Even if you didn't remember this phone, the Red Sprint lettering is a dead giveaway. "Another Palm Pre knock off" ha.

This was a beast of a phone (in size, not in specs). The funny thing is that I actually still have it, although I haven't used it in years.

I just traded my Samsung i700 from 2002 for the Imagio because Verizon never offered a 3.5 in screen anything less than that on a wimo phone is stupid. I also hate sliding keyboards. I would have upgraded to this phone at the time if it had been just a touch sceen
qvga on a 3.5 may not be pretty but it did work and you could actually see it when the went to the tiny 2.8 screens I always felt I needed a magnifying glass

The Imagio is very nice. But I still would like a bigger screen, I will check out the HD2 when or if it comes out.

Many days I wish I still had mine.. I miss the big screen even if it was only 240x320. Sprint also had a software update to allow EVDO but it was never released. If the internals of the 6601 were in the Hitachi G1000 case I would still have my G1000...

I am tired of squinting at my Treo 800W.

Wow, who would have thought it!! I still have one NIB in my basement collecting dust!!! ;)

Dude, NIB? You know, in a few years, you probably sell that on eBay to some collector (cough, cough), lmao

Ya, the blue angel got me into pocketpc phones at the times. It was great. I missed the screen size and am happy that I have a Tilt 2 for a larger screen.
400mhz processor was high end too if I remember correctly. Most everything else was down in the 200mhz range I think.

Dang, I didn't expect my post on PPCGeeks to make it this far. lol It was an amazing device at its time!
