HTC Touch Diamond Fans Out

Hands-on of the sort slightly more details than our paltry HTC Touch Diamond vs. Xperia X1 moment are tricking in around the web. Surur points us to a nice one over at mobile review, who write:

Already today, judging by the Diamond’s engineering samples, it’s safe to say that HTC has come up with a decent offering – probably, it’s a mixed bag design-wise, but it represents a logical leap forward in all other departments, aimed to hit the mass-market hard and appeal the users outside the circle of Windows Mobile specialists.

Of course, they follow that up by saying it ain't a “communicator.” If you want even more Diamond-dulling you can take a peek at Jeff Kirvin's take, like many he's shying away from the smallish battery and decrying the lack of an external memory card slot.

Some of our luckier colleagues in the WinMo Blogosphere are currently attending Mobius, where they're getting to mix it up with all sorts of devices, including the Diamond. Joel over at geek.com posts up some good thoughts on it that you might not have seen before.

Of course, as you might expect, BGR has got a hands-on as well, though they worry that TouchFLO 3D isn't quite as fast as it ought to be. Like everybody else who's commented on that speed thing, they're hoping/assuming that it's a “this isn't quite the final build yet” thing.

...All in all, if HTC can get the Touch Diamond out on schedule (rumored as early as June for the Taiwanese market), they should be able to easily sell the two million they're hoping to.

Thanks, Surur!

Mobile-Review has got their hands on the HTC Diamond, and has done a preview.

Overall they like it. They mention another nice feature of the device - the stylus slot sucks in the stylus when you stick it in the slot. Cool.

BTW, why is pictures off in this forum.
we had somebody spamming this forum with pics awhile ago... I can turn it on again..

Thx!

I hope I'm not the only one worried that the pictures show such a low battery (or that in 9 minutes between pictures taken at 10:21 and 10:30 a bar is depleted).
Wow, great to read Jeff Kirvin's name again!
Here's a very nice review by Mobinautes

It includes this picture, which shows the Diamond to be absolutely petite next to the iPhone.

It also shows them to be equal fingerprint magnets :)

As has been mentioned elsewhere, there is one major flaw that I see with this phone: no memory expansion (SD, microSD, etc.). Apple may be able to get away with something like that, but for anyone else to leave that out in this day and age is a questionable practice, at best.

This might have been my next phone (in a CDMA version), but now I'm not so sure.
No MicroSD is a definite deal-breaker. One of the reasons I want to upgrade is because I'm out of storage space and my phone doesn't accept SDHC cards.

Mmmmm, looking juicy.:p

This video was posted on Howard Forums. Apparently there is an ambient light sensor (right next to the earpiece), which will be nice for auto-brightness.
It's been a long time since I've actually gotten excited over a new phone (not since the Treo 600).

Now the agonizing wait...
hi everyone :)
Another review sort of on the fence: http://blogs.zdnet.com/mobile-gadgeteer/?p=1253

Have to say I like what I see, but I just don't think I'll be able to live w/o a physical keyboard. Still liking my Q9c - even more since the 6.1 upgrade.
Just got off the phone with retention. He confirmed that the HTC Diamond will be released on Sept 2nd. It will have Wi Fi , 3g, yada yada... He also said that it will be over 300.00 with an upgrade. HTC Raphael he had no idea.

Hope that was not just another Sprint rep blowing smoke! I am looking forward to seeing this thing "live".
As you probably know by now there are rumors that it may be released for Sprint THIS month instead of September 2nd.

Whether that's true or not, I'm anxiously awaiting the Diamond.
This is the first non-Palm os phone which is tempting me. Ooooohhh!

Pretty, but I still like basic black. I noticed in the picture how Sprint has changed some of the buttons on the graphical slider. I wonder what other changes they've made.
what about the price?
what about the price?

$299 after rebates, but I think that's still too high. I wouldn't have gone any higher than $250 (and kept the rebates out of it). People don't want to deal with rebates (unless they're instant rebates).

Personally, I think Sprint is screwing up on the price point. But we'll see.
man, that's like 330 because of the tax. i'll stay with my 755p.
I thought about the lack of microSD and weighed it in with all the plus features i was looking for. My Mogul had a 4GB card but i only used 1.8 of it up. I guess to have to hear 'my phone has more storage than yours' would be the only downside for me. I dont even need the extra storage, but the option really should be there.
