HTC Snap: It's that Fast

Loke Uei Tan, Technical Product Manager for Microsoft was able to capture a short performance video on the HTC Snap at the 2009 TechEd Meetings in Los Angeles.  The video shows how fast the Snap can go from home screen to camera to taking the shot.

It's as fast as a snap and it will be interesting to see how the HTC Snap measures up to the pending Windows Mobile Professional phones that are coming up for release.  If you are already a Windows Mobile Standard fan, the Snap is sure to excite but will the Snap's speediness convert any Windows Mobile Pro users?

Wow my Dash is a snail by comparision.

While my Fuze is a do-all device that is extremely powerful, it sure is slow. I'd go to the Snap in a snap (:P) if it had 850mhz 3G. Anyone know if that's available?

I went to the dark side and have been using a an E71 for a few weeks and it IS SO FAST. I love it, but it just doesn't have quite the flexibility of WinMo.

I don't think they have released the U.S. specs but I would be shocked if it's not U.S. 3G compatible. It does have a 528mhz processor and while not 850mhz, it's more than capable for WM Standard.

I've got my sights set on the Touch Diamond 2 but will admit the Snap is plenty distracting.

Dude, no "Snappy" pun? Booooooooo!!! :)

Tracy and Matt unboxing said it had autofocus but I can't confirm if it's true. Anyone? No AF= no go for me. But if it does, I may be a convert (temporarily) :-)

According to HTC's Specifications the camera is a 2.0 megapixel, fixed focus camera.

that may be the reason why the Snap took a snap in a snap! (transaltion: the Snap took a photo that quick! :D )

if it had autofocus, it wouldn't be able to take photos quickly like what we saw in the video

TOOK me 15 seconds with my xperia :(

13 seconds with HTC TYTN II

8 seconds with HTC Fuze (Custom ROM though)

7 seconds with Touch Diamond 2

dont forget the RAM. 64 for dash vs 192 for snap. with nothin running dash allows me ~18 of that 64. you run youtube and maybe opera and email and those 18 turn into 5. i figure snap would give you at least 100 mb at startup, which is more than enough for most wm apps

Oh, don't forget, it comes with a 528mhz CPU. :) that's why it's awesomely fast.

oh and checkout this technical tutorial to make use of all that 192mb of RAM.

3 seconds with the Xda orbit 2

Snap for picture or snapdragon?"
