Microsoft Live Search: New and Improved

Microsoft announced this week that the mobile version of Live Search has been updated to include the ability to detect the location of the mobile user even if their handset is not GPS-enabled. The update also includes predictive search query input and more detailed views of maps. Also included in the update is the "bird's-eye-view" that's popular on Microsoft's maps.live.com. It's not quite the same as Google Maps' Street View, but it does do a better job of spying on your neighbors.

Also of note is that latest version still works with Windows Mobile 5.

According to Jeremy Beasley, Live Search Mobile product manager, "if you're not running the latest version of Windows Mobile, don't worry. We've built in support for Windows Mobile 5 phones to make sure that you can use these new features as well."

To download the latest version (4.012158.1) of Windows Live Search mobile, just point your browser to wls.live.com or go here on your desktop for more options.

Unfortunately the location detection does not work on my Verizon 700wx with WM6. Anyone else have this problem?

This new version doesn't update the map if you use the GPS tracking feature, unlike the previous versions. How can I re-download the old version?

I have been having problems with the latest version as well, I try to get driving directions and it can't find ANY location I enter... it searches for them as if I were searching for a business near my default location. Before I could just enter a street address and a zip, and presto, there it was... now I can't even enter a zip code, or even a specific city/state... can't find it.

I am able to use driving directions for saved locations, but I have noticed that the map isn't always being rendered when I have GPS enabled... usually if I have no data connection, at least the blue line and my arrow would still be there, but now, even in a spot where I have a data connection I have to zoom in and out to get the map and the route to show up. I really would love to get the old version back till they get this one fixed.
