We've mentioned that SPB Software was working on Mobile Shell 3.0.1 Beta and it appears that the Beta is now the current version. The update is free to those who have already purchased Mobile Shell 3.0 and all you need to do is go here, download the .cab file (trial version) and install it over Mobile Shell 3.0.

Version 3.0.1 makes minor additions and fixes issues discovered in version 3.0. Such modifications include:

  • Saving unknown phone numbers from the call log has been added
  • Showing/hiding SIM contacts has been added
  • “Show Today” widget has been added
  • “Remove All” option in call log added Performance of portrait/landscape switching has improved
  • Some issues with “Edit Profile” dialog box on Treo devices has been fixed
  • Contact matching in call log has improved
  • Performance of hardware accelerated carousel has improved

In using Mobile Shell 3.0.1, the screen rotation from vertical to horizontal is almost instantaneous and the overall performance appears to have improved. Some users reported a power drain with version 3.0 but it doesn't seem to be present with 3.0.1.  Overall, the modifications included in 3.0.1 have made a very good application a little better.

trying this out on my i910...had 3.0 but the power drain was beyond horrendous...hopefully itll be better with this because i absolutely love it...

Don't forget the pretty significant inclusion of just starting to type a name or number on the home screen ala the Today screen. One of Dieter's favorite features and a VERY nice addition to the update.

"In using Mobile Shell 3.0.1, the screen rotation from vertical to horizontal is almost instantaneous and the overall performance appears to have improved."
-- This is not completely fixed. The instantaneous rotation works for only the layout which is your default layout (Professional or Life) while installing the cab.
The other screens do not change orientation until the keyboard is brought out.

Anyone else notice that part?

Screen rotation lagginess was my only gripe. That's now back to as snappy as it ever has been for my Mogul. (Not seeing Sam's issue above.) Noyce!

The power drain problem is in fact still present. I don't recall anyone reporting the problem being fixed between 3.0 and 3.0.1. I did note that if I let the phone sleep with Microsoft's Today screen showing, the drain doesn't happen.

I've noticed the drain after running 3.0.1 for a few days but it seems sporadic. One day the battery will drop like a rock, the next it will drain at a snails pace.

I first wrote it off because I was using Skyfire, Opera, and my Bluetooth Radio quit a bit lately. If we hear anything from SPB on the battery drain issue, we'll pass it on.

Do NOT even bother to use this on the Treo Pro until several major problems noted by Treo Pro users on SPB forums are addressed.
