I have to admit that I have never owned a holster style case before. I may have been a little naive, but it is basically because whenever I looked at the pictures of them on the internet, I just could not bring myself to trust putting a phone that I paid hundreds of dollars for in it as I walked around on the sidewalk just waiting to take its best shot at my expensive phone as soon as it inevitably falls out of the clip.

So when I was asked to review the Seidio Rubberized Spring Clip Holster for the PPC 6800 ($29.95), I was very cautious in the beginning... for example, only using it over my carpeted areas at home. But even if it is only for this one specific clip holster, it did win my hard earned respect that I never imagined I would (or could) have for it.

Review: Navibe GB735 Bluetooth GPS Receiver

Store Images Product Images Accessories Large 2230

In my line of work I am on the road a lot. I will often times fly into cities I have never been before and have to find and visit several different retail locations in time before catching a plane back home that evening. So I use GPS a lot. Since I have a Garmin GPS unit in my car at home, I could just use that, but lugging one more thing around is not what I want to do. So I will use a bluetooth GPS unit with either iNav or TomTom GPS software on my WM phone. (Keep an eye out for the upcoming TomTom GPS software review.)

About 4 months ago my GPS unit that I had been using for the previous 2 years finally quit working, so I found myself thrust into the bluetooth GPS market again. Due to a balance of price, features, and performance I got the Navibe GB735 ($69.96) and I could not be happier, with only a few minor exceptions.

Moto Q9h vs. BlackJack II

Html Portal Reviews 0000001027 Review Front

Pocketnow.com has just finished up a spate of articles pitting the Motorola Q9h against the BlackJack II (Samsung Jack if you're nasty). Go on and take a look at Brandon's opinions (including some nice videos), then come on back and take a look at mine.

These two devices are particularly well-suited to a head-to-head, both seemingly have identical feature sets. Once you move past a spec listing, though, and actually use the device day to day, you'll find that it's the little things that get ya. I initially took a look at the BlackJack II and the Q9h and saw that both phones share:

  • Windows Mobile 6 Standard
  • HSDPA
  • GPS
  • 240x320 Screen
  • TI OMAP 2420 Processor (more on that in a bit)
  • 256mb ROM, around 100mb RAM

You look at the above and you think - “These are basically identical phones. Obviously I want the one with the better form factor and the better battery life.” That, my friends, would be the BlackJack II. Done, right? Not so much - read on to find out why.

Windows Mobile 6 on the BlackJack - Video Hands-on

Posted on Thursday, Jan 24, 2008 by Dieter Bohn

Given how long we waited for the Windows Mobile 6 download for the BlackJack, we were tempted to mostly ignore the Byzantine instructions for installing the update. Fortunately, we didn't - and neither should you.

After just a few hours of use we can say that this definitely feels better than the leaked ROM. This new ROM is build 17944.0.3.1, up a few ticks from the leaked 17740.0.2.0 - so we're confident that the delays were genuinely caused by bugfixes and not by AT&T trying to force us to upgrade to the BlackJack II. ...Pretty confident. ...Sorta confident.

In any case, the Windows Mobile 6 update for the BlackJack brings the little guy up to date -- for my money it's the best deal out there for a Windows Mobile device these days.

Review: Palm Hard Case for Treo 700wx

Today’s case up for review is the Palm Hard Case for the 700wx ($29.95), which I’ve had now for 12 months, so I feel quite qualified in my judgment. Believe it or not, Palm actually tends to release pretty good accessories for their devices, but as usual for a more premium cost. In this situation, I really like the Palm Hard Case and it is my number one choice to carry my 700wx around it. That does not mean however it is a perfect accessory...

Review: PointUI

Time + Email App

The issue of how good or bad the User Interface (UI) on Windows Mobile devices has raged on in our forums and has frequently been the subject of many stories here at WMExperts but one thing is clear, the market has spoken and UI replacements, add-ons or shells have become the new pet-rock of WM devices.

Ms Patent New Ui

Enter PointUI, a hitherto unknown (except for a mysterious countdown) program this little app almost looks like the designers beat Microsoft to the punch for their future UI as documented in their patent images.

Anyways, what you need to know about PointUI from my 24 hrs of experimenting is after the break, but here's the short version:

  • Completely Free
  • Quite Stable
  • Supports all major resolutions: 240x240, 320x240, etc.
  • Low system resources
  • Menu animation is great
  • Very easy to use
  • Includes Weather screen
