(Following up on our Fizz Traveler Review from George Ponder, we give you HobbesIsReal's review of SPB Traveler)

With my work, there are times that I am on the road a lot. For example, in the last 8 days I have been on 7 airplanes, checked into 3 hotels, and rented 4 rental cars. If anyone needs tools to keep their trips organized, I do. Here at WMExperts, we have found that Spb has earned a great deal of respect for their products in the past. So when I saw Spb Traveler , I knew I was the going to be the perfect person to put this through the test.

At first glance Spb Traveler seems to offer a large selection of tools for any traveler, no matter if the trip is for business or simply having some fun in the sun. If you do any traveling at all, even just one vacation a year, this might be something that may give you that bit of organization to make any trip go just a little smoother. So does Sbp live up to its hard earned reputation, or does Spb Traveler simply fall flat? Read on to find out...

Review: BlackBerry Audio Gateway

Posted on Monday, Jul 28, 2008 by HobbesIsReal

Store Images Product Images Accessories Large 3579

Having 4 GB of MP3's on my WM phone is great, but often times it is very limiting when I want to play them on my home stereo or in the car. Wouldn't it be nice to turn nearly any stereo into a bluetooth compatibility with your WM phone so you could stream all of your favorite MP3's? This is exactly what I have been wanting to do. So I started looking around to see if someone was smart enough to solve this challenge. It did not take me long to find a potential solution from the dark side of any WM user... Blackberry!

Blackberry has a very small and sleek looking Blackberry Remote Bluetooth Stereo Gateway. The idea is that you can turn any stereo with either a 3.5 mm earphone jack or RCA auxiliary input, into a Bluetooth stereo that can stream your MP3's from your phone to your stereo with any A2DP-compatible bluetooth enabled WM phone. It sounds great, but how well would a Blackberry accessory work with my WM phone? This is what I set out to discover.

Review: Resco Explorer 2008

 Pocketpc Explorer Images Intro2

For those who may not be familiar with Resco Explorer, it is a collection of software tools that will give you all the power you need to manage your files, pictures, folders, etc. on your WM phone. It has historically been, by far, one of the most comprehensive utility collections for the WM OS for the past several years. In fact, Resco Explorer has made number one on my must have software list for the last 4 years running... and it looks like it will continue this trend with my upcoming Must Have Software for 2008 list. So when Resco released Explorer 2008 in mid June, I was very excited to get my hands on it and see what innovative advancements Resco added in this time. Resco gave me a copy of it to review and I have torn it apart.

Review: CoPilot Live7 North America Bluetooth Edition

Posted on Tuesday, Jul 22, 2008 by Tim Ferrill

copilot-01.jpg

If you’re like me, the whole concept of a GPS fascinates you. The fact that I can find my exact location on the planet with a minimal amount of hardware (and software) is amazing to me. The only thing that’s better, is the fact that I can do it using my Phone.

I remember my first experience with a GPS. I was driving with some friends to an event in the Los Angeles area. We drove from the city where I live (about an hour away) to the destination that was given to the GPS. Once we got to the address that had been input, we discovered that the address was wrong. Typically this would have been in issue, but using the GPS we were able be at the correct location within 30 minutes or so.

CoPilot Live is developed by ALK Technologies and comes in two packages. The first includes the software on cd and a 2gb MicroSD card (the MicroSD also has converters for MiniSD and Standard SD). The second package bundles a Bluetooth GPS receiver (along with a frightening number of charging cables and a mounting system for the receiver). Both options are available from the WMExperts store for $99.95 and $199.95 respectively.

Keep reading for more juicy details.

Review: VITO AstroNavigator II

Albums Cc82 Hobbesisreal Articles Vito Astronavigatorii Astronavigatorii10

Vito Technology is a software company that has a great deal of respect for the details and the little extra touches that they always include in software, and Vito AstroNavigator II (available for Pro or Standard for $19.95) is no different. As they say on their website, you can literally touch the sky. They say this because they offered finger sliding interface even before it was made cool by the iPhone. If you want a simple to use, really cool program to find anything in the night sky without being overrun with loads of technical information and options that only the pros would be interested in, then this will be perfect for you! I use this program quite a bit in the summer time when I break out my telescope to show my son Saturn's rings, the big red spot on Jupiter, or to find out what the heck that constellation is.

Hands On with Opera Mobile 9.5

Here's the video of our hands-on with Opera Mobile 9.5 Beta. As promised, we tested in a Sprint Mogul. We left it stock, no memory optimizations on it, to try to get a good feel of how big a memory hog Opera Mobile would be. Verdict: it's pretty darn greedy, but even so it seems to run pretty well. Here's to hoping that this is a 'beta' issue. Co-WMExpert Phil Nickinson also writes in about Opera:

Runs pretty well on my trusty 750 (even with EDGE only), but HOLY MEMORY HOG BATMAN! Might wanna suggest this, too, to move the cache to the storage card...
  • Close Opera.
  • Create a folder on your storage card where the cache files will go.* I chose \Storage Card\Program Files\Opera\cache4, but I don't think the folder structure or folder name matter.
  • Open \Application Data\Opera\opera.ini in a text editor.
  • In the [User Prefs] section, add the following line: Cache Directory4=[full path to folder on storage card].
  • Save and close opera.ini.
  • Restart Opera. Your cache is now being written to your storage card.

...While that might not get rid of the persistent memory errors, at least it will free up some ROM space for ya.

How's Opera performing for you?

Update: Jeff Kirvin notes his impressions in the comments and lets us know that the reason flash didn't work in our video above is that it's currently disabled in this beta; ditto ActiveX.

Image One-2

With the summer months well at hand, trips to the beach and lake will become more frequent.  The risk of exposing your Windows Mobile device to water becomes greater as you enjoy that boat ride or sun on the beach.  Aquapac offers a range of water proof bags that claim to keep your phone high and dry while allowing you to use the phone while it is safe and sound in the case.  Will the Aquapac Form Fit Case ($24.95) float?

Read on for the full review and found out!
