Review: Blueant M1 Bluetooth Speaker System

Posted on Friday, Sep 26, 2008 by Tim Ferrill

Blueant_M1-01.jpg

I love it when my iPhone toting friends start describing why their phone is the superior device on the smartphone market. My typical response is going through the list of things that my Tilt does that their precious iPhone does not. The primary weakness that I tend to bring up is the lack of A2DP (Bluetooth stereo audio) support.

We here at WMExperts have reviewed several accessories that support the A2DP Bluetooth profile, ranging from headphones to audio gateways intended to stream audio through your home stereo. One type of accessory that is just now starting to pick up steam among accessory manufacturers are Bluetooth enabled speaker systems, like Blueant’s M1.

Stick around for the juicy details.

Motorola Q9h Silver: Firmware Updates Over the Air, and More on the Q9 Series

Yesterday, when we reported on the Motorola Q11 images, we mentioned that we had some surprising Q9 news. It turns out that our initial dubious reaction to the Dapper Q9h Silver with Pinstripes wasn't really fair -- we got some hints about it during our hands-on at CTIA and arranged to find out what the real deal was with Motorola.

Well, now we know, and what we know is that the Silver Q9h is significantly better than the standard Q9h it's replacing. After the break, find out what's new on the Silver Q9h. Hint: it's there in the title and it's a capital B Big capital D Deal for Windows Mobile.

Also, we explain why on earth Motorola created the EDGE-only Q9e and try our best to lay out all the different versions of the Q9 without the aid of an Excel spreadsheet. Read on!

Good news folks, the SkyFire Beta is now open to everybody! Head on over to http://skyfire.com to get it. The other piece of news from Skyfire is they've updated their beta to 0.8, with new features:

  • Better video quality
  • Ability to make Skyfire the default browser
  • Faster launch and auto-reconnect
  • Improved zooming
  • Ability to download content
  • In-line text entry

We decided to show Skyfire on a Motorola Q9h because of all the new browsers coming out these days, Skyfire is one of the few that actually gives some love (aka: compatibility) with Windows Mobile Standard.

After the break: our quick take on Skyfire, a screen shot of how Skyfire looks on WM Pro, and the full press release.

Review: SkyForce Reloaded

skyforce_reloaded-01.jpg

Computer gaming has been around almost as long as the computer industry itself. It can be argued that games have made computers into what they are today. The perpetual cycle of games pushing the envelope and hardware manufacturers rushing to build a better system has improved computer capabilities at a rate that puts other industries to shame.

SkyForce Reloaded by Infinite Dreams is one of the more eye-catching games currently available for Windows Mobile. A story based saga this is not, SkyForce Reloaded is a pure shooter and is all about blowing things up. Keep reading to find out how it stacks up from a gameplay standpoint.

Review: SPB Online

Posted on Tuesday, Sep 23, 2008 by Tim Ferrill

spb_online-01.jpg

SPB has been one of the major players in the Windows Mobile software market for a number of years. Their Mobile Shell is one of our favorites here at WMExperts and is on our list of must have software.

A software based content portal seems to be a holy grail of sorts for several large players in the technology world. Yahoo has attempted it with their Yahoo Go application and one of the major draws of Apple Computer’s iPhone is the App Store along with the ability to get at content from popular sites like YouTube. SPB is making an attempt at the content portal niche with SPB Online (see our post about the announcement here). SPB is aiming for a higher standard with SPB Online than any of the other content portals have been able to attain.

Review: Mogul Car Charger & Speakerphone: Seidio G4700X

Historically, I have been impressed with Seidio's product line. So when I saw that Seidio had the G4700x windshield powered mount with a speaker phone for the PPC-6800 / Mogul ($119.95), I was very excited to give it a try.

Sadly, there is little doubt that I have found the first Seidio product that I have not had a good experience with.

Review: Mr. Handsfree Bluevision II Bluetooth Speakerphone

Posted on Thursday, Sep 18, 2008 by HobbesIsReal

Store Images Product Images Accessories Large 2470

As many are finding out the hard way, using your cell phone while driving without some type of handsfree device is illegal and can cost you a spendy little ticket. I know that starting July 1st this year in my state it will be illegal to use your cell phone without being handsfree. So now is the time that many are looking into different options so that they can use their cell phone without having to touch it while driving. For this very reason, the **Mr Handsfree Bluevision II speakerphone** ($129.95) caught my eye. I have found great success with bluetooth speakerphones in the past. And with WMExperts review of the original model of the Mr Handsfree Bluevision receiving 4 out of 5 stars, I wanted to see if Mr Handsfree had listened to us and made the wanted improvements we were looking for.

What is unique about the Mr Handsfree Bluevision II speakerphone, is that it has a remote control for your phone as well! Talk about making your phone truly handsfree... bluetooth speakerphone... and a remote control to answer calls and dial phone numbers with. But none of this is any good if the sound quality makes the device unusable. So, after at least 4 long road trips, I have come to a verdict...
