Many people (myself included) have looked at various vehicle mounts wondering, what kind should I get? Do I really want to attach something to my windshield? Is it even safe (or legal) to attach something to my windshield? I can’t really help a whole lot with the last question, other than to say that you need to check with your state to find out if a windshield mount is legal in your state. I will try to help you decide if this mount is a good choice for you after the break.
I will start with the facts. The **Arkon Dash Mount** ($29.95 from WMExperts) is a bean bag style mount that uses its weight and friction to sit on your dash without sliding around. The mount itself attaches to the base using a suction cup. An included adhesive hook attaches (optionally) to the back of the base for safety.

Design
I was a little skeptic about this mount at first. I’m one of those people that have been known to drive a little (ok a lot) on the aggressive side, so I was a little concerned that the whole idea behind this mount was going to be a miserable failure. I was quite pleasantly surprised. The mount maintained its position on my dash without exception.

Build Quality
This thing is SOLID. It’s always nice when a company pays attention to detail in the little things. The arm on the actual mount isn’t just a couple pieces of plastic slapped together. There are cutouts to increase the rigidity of the plastic, as well as an indention on the bottom to allow for the arm to be positioned at a low angle without hitting the suction cup assembly.

Usability
I did notice a little bit of vibration when using the mount with my Blackjack, but most of that was transferred directly from my dash. As I said before, there were no issues with the mount sliding around (even without the safety hook). I also like the fact that if the dash thing didn’t work for you, you could always just use the suction cup on your windshield.
The phone sits in a typical universal style mounting system. The grips on the side have cut-outs in an attempt to avoid pushing any hardware buttons on the phone itself.
A note about safety…
It’s worth mentioning that Arkon stresses over and over that you should NOT use this on or near an airbag deployment zone. I would definitely recommend that you keep that in mind as you’re deciding whether this is the mount for you.
Conclusion
Arkon has hit a home run with the Arkon Dash Mount. The build quality is perfection. The design is simple, yet effective. I would highly recommend this mount without any reservation.
