BlackJack II, Video First Look

There ya go, kids, a quick unboxing and Video First Look at the Samsung BlackJack II, available for $149.99 with contract from AT&T. It's a little shorter than we'd prefer, but as we mentioned earlier it's a travel day for us. We'll definitely have more later, because we respectfully disagree with the Boy Genius's assessment that the Q9h is better than the BlackJack II. No sir: the BJII is tops in our book. We'll explain later, we promise.

Don't tease us like this! I'm dying to know why you disagree with BG about Q9h, and prefer the BJII. I'm making my purchase this week and it will be one of these two!
Has WMExperts changed it's mind. Given the time that has passed since the "teaser" video, I'm being to think the Q9h is the reigning champ.
I have been using my BJII for about a week now and I have to say it is awesome

I was trying to decide between th BJII and Q9 and played around with both of them in the store several times for quite a while. Now that I have it I am really glad I choose it GPS works great after the hack voice command BT WM6 is good.

I have been in places where I could get 3G and it blows away EDGE AT&T is supposed to have 3G up and working in my area next week there are a lot of third party apps coming out that are really nice.

one of my deciding factors was size I like to carry my phone in my pocket and use it for music when working out so i was really kind of disappointed with the size of the Q9 also some people don't like the glossy finish of th BJII I really like it compared to the dull finish of the Q9.

Lastly I got the BJII for $50 after rebate Q9 $199 after rebate
I ordered the Blackjack 2 online and hope to receive it next week. I like the width much better than the Q9h. If performance disappoints, I will switch it for a Q9h during the 30 day trial period. I hope WMExperts completes its comparison review in the next 30 days.
Not sure if it has been posted anywhere yet I couldn't find it.

Everyone is complaining about battery life on the BJII I have had the same problem with the light on the phone saying it is fully charged but the battery meter in power managment is only 90% and after around 5 hours of moderate use only 50% power.

Here is the deal I have read in different forums for what ever reason you need to let the battery completely drain dead and recharge and this fixes the problem I am trying it right now myself.

From what I've read, this problem has only occurred in some units. I'm receiving my Blackjack 2 today, so I'll report whether I have this issue. If I do, I'm returning it for the Q9h.
Well I am on my 3rd one and it's not looking any different I still can't get the battery meter to say fully charged even though the green light is on. I have run the battery down twice and charged it back up. I have untill 1-10-08 to return it with in my 30 days and I will get the Q9 if this doesn't get any better. I will post again later.

Just got my red Blackjack 2 yesterday. Charged it overnight until the green indicator light went on and sure enough, it didn't charge all the way, according to the battery meter. I can't tell the exact percentage, but I'd say the battery meter bar was about 90% full. I obviously haven't had a chance to test the battery life yet, but needless to say, I'm annoyed by this glitch. Coming from the Samsung i730, which was plagued by dozens of glitches, I knew I was taking a chance by going with another Samsung, but at least I have the 30 day return period to work with.

Aside from the battery meter issue, so far my only other complaints are (i) unlocking the phone requires 3 button presses (2 of which are a real pain - hitting the button on top of the phone and hitting the * key!!!) and (ii) scrolling down pages on the web takes much longer than it did with the d pad on my Samsung i730. I think this is a WM Standard vs. WM Professional issue. The scroll wheel absolutely does not speed up the scrolling process, unless of course you have super human powers and can spin your thumb in circles at ridiculous speeds.

We'll see how the rest of my trial goes, but for now, I'm guessing I'll switch to the Q9h by the end of the 30 days.
Well the one I have now works good, it holds a charge for about 35 hrs with some pretty heavy use videos, downloads GPS( if using in your car keep it charging GPS really drains the battery fast) and phone calls about 1 hour total talk time. I was thinking about the Q9 but now have been reading in some forums that it too is having battery issues plus I got BJII on the 50% off program so I really don't want to pay the extra $125 for the Q9 and then still have problems. So I am happy to be keeping my BJII

While my battery never reads "full" and has other strange behavior (i.e. it stays at 50% for a long, long time and then suddenly drops another 25%), it seems like the battery life is pretty good. I don't have many complaints about the device and I'm actually thinking of keeping it.

I wish WM Experts would release their complete review. Although WM Experts really owes us nothing, I would think common courtesy would dictate that they should update us from their previous post - i.e. that they would address BGR's conclusion soon.

You're absolutely right. the Smartphone Round Robin sort of got in my way. Next week is CES and the week after is (gasp!) macworld. I'm bringing both but I can't guarantee I'll be true to my word in the next week or two.

I'll say initially that I've actually be disappointed with the blackjack's battery life and wondering if maybe I have a bum unit (they exist).

In the meantime, pocketnow is doing a head to head between the bj and the qjh, might be worth a look.

Cool. This is very helpful. I've found the battery life on the BJ2 to be pretty good. I get almost 2 days of use while using Direct Push email. That seems good for a WM device. I'll keep my fingers crossed on your review and will definitely checkout pocketnow.
