Ed. Note: This week and next, WMExperts will be reviewing several media players for Windows Mobile. We've already taken a look at Pocket Tunes Deluxe, and we'll have several more after this George's review today, including a surprise review that you won't see coming!
Continuing the on-going saga of finding alternative music applications for Windows Media Mobile, you will eventually come across Electric Pocket’s Flipside ($19.95) MP3 Player. In an effort to offer an iPod atmosphere, Flip Side is a very basic audio player that can be graphically pleasing.
To see how Flip Side measures up, read on!
First impressions greatly impact our opinion of things all the time. From strangers you meet for the first time to test driving a new car to using a software application for the first time, first impressions leave a lasting mark. My first impression of Flip Side wasn’t bad. I liked the ability to add album artwork to your music files but after using it for a bit, I found myself scrambling to the Remove Programs function of my BlackJack II.
The music application is about as simply as you can get, navigationally wise. Flip Side searches your device for MP3 and WMA files and then organizes them in albums based on the file’s tag. The application then organizes it in panel display (much like a row of album covers) that you can scroll through to select a file to play or you can play entire albums/folder.

If you don’t have an album cover associated with the file, you get a generic musical note for the artwork. If you want more graphics, you can allow Flip Side to search the internet for album artwork to make your musical library more graphically pleasing.

The application runs fairly smoothly but there seemed to be a lag between selecting the music file and having it play. You do have the ability to create play lists but while I was able to create a unique play list, when I went to add a song to that list, the application crashed, as you can see above.
