Spare Touch Pro battery takes its revenge

Touch Pro battery burns butt

Look. We don't know PPCGeeks user kidmet. He's probably a pretty cool cat. But we can't imagine it'd be too much fun to ride around in his back pocket all day. We'd just assplode.

And that's exactly what his spare Touch Pro battery apparently did.

I walked into my house early this week to the smell of burning. I couldn't find where it was coming from. Last night as I was gathering my laundry I noticed a burn through the back of my jeans. A HUGE hole. I had a spare Touch Pro battery in my back pocket. It had expanded and obviously started a fire in my jeans. They were in a clothes pile and buried, so I assume that there wasn't enough oxygen to start a fire.

We don't know if this was an OEM battery or if it was straight from HTC. But we're glad your butt's OK, kidmet, and we're glad this isn't an everyday occurrence.

Perhaps the metal rivets
In the pocket shorted the contacts.

Unless they were carrying said metal rivets, I don't think that was the case... looking at the perfectly fine non-riveted pocket on the other cheek.

Really, it's a bad week for back pockets, I think. Just two days ago I sat down on the edge of the tub to give my son a bath, and my pants split right on the side of the right-cheek pocket. I *liked* that pair of pants, too.

Well, I also have A spare battery that I need & use A lot, for my Touch PRO, till now I kept it in my pocket, but now what? should I be worried? how can I carry it?
it's an original htc battery.

@ worried: Shouldn't be too worried mate. Just don't put it together with metals (i.e coins, keys, etc) and other electric conducting materials (i.e water). Water and Li-Ion don't mix well.
