Sprint getting WiMax Touch HD? We connect the dots

Here's a possibly scenario for you to ponder:

Sprint's Touch Diamond did not sell as well as the Touch Pro (3,000 units vs 15,000 per month)
Sprint's Touch Diamond is EOL'd (gone by July)
No Touch Diamond 2 is on Sprint's roadmap
ROM file is leaked called "RUU_Quartz_Clearwire_US_1.09.1000.5_Radio_Quartz_1.13.25"
Quartz = Touch HD / Clearwire = Sprint's Wimax partner

So we're just throwing it out there that somewhere out there on the internets is a "signed ship" ROM floating around (we've seen it ourselves) labeled for Clearwire using the Touch HD's moniker. And that Sprint shows no signs of getting a Touch Diamond 2 even though it is EOL and running on its final shipment.

We could also throw out this gem from criticalaudioinc, who works with HTC and said 7 months ago:

HTC is currently in discussion again on bringing the HTC Touch HD to the US, I currently have a GSM model that we were asked to convert to CDMA, All that was needed was to pull a board from the diamond and re-solder and flash the the rom. From what we can see it is working pretty well the solder isn't pretty but again its a test. But its looking good so far.

So there you go. What say you? We be crazy or is Sprint getting ready to launch a Touch HD with Wimax?

At one point I wanted the Touch HD, when it was new hareware, software, and technology. Now, I don't. I want a phone about the size of the Diamond 2, actually I want the Diamond 2. When AT & T release the Diamond 2 this summer, I may move to them and take another look at Sprint in 2 years, if they are still around.

I really think that LTE will be THE standard in the US and Sprint will be left out in the cold being the only carrier on WiMax.

I would love a touch HD. I'm due for an upgrade and the TP2 was going to be my choice before this news/rumor.

That is why I'm not upgrading my Pro to a Pre.

Interesting rumor.

I've been working on a theory that Sprint hasn't announced a TD2/T-HD because they simply poured way too much money into the inferior Instinct/S30 to have a superior touch device alongside it. Literally, the commercials were everywhere, NASCAR rights, the plan tie-ins, etc etc. They dropped some serious dough on that POS phone. Who the heck is going to walk into a Sprint store and choose the Instinct over a TD2/T-HD?

When the TD2 was absent from Sprint's '09 roadmaps, I think that pretty much settled it. We'll get the Touch Pro 2 and the Pre, but that's it. Maybe 2010...

Interesting theory. But,

1) The S30/instinct is a total different price point (at least $200 less). It is the same situation as the Instinct vs. Diamond.

2) What is the Quartz Clearwire Signed Shipped rom for?

3) It is missing from the leaked 09 roadmaps, not sure how well they stick to those? 2010 might be more plausible for a wimax phone?.

How do you know that the Diamond2 is coming to Sprint? Everything I've read says that Sprint will not carry the Diamond2.

If Sprint has the Diamond2, then I will get it. The only way I will get the Touch HD if they change the processor to Snapdragon or Tegra and add at least 4g of internal storage - the Touch HD have to be Windows 7 ready.

Isn't the Touch HD and Diamond 2 essentially the same? Doubt it will get all those upgrades or a snapdragon/tegra phone debuts stateside this year. And why would they add extra internal storage with an MSD slot?

There was a rumor on engadget that verizon will had an hd-like phone this year. That could be the tp2 though.

A Sprint HTC Touch HD, would be worth about a two month MORE wait, for a decent Sprint phone. Sprint..geezzzz!!!

My question is, why? I owned an HD from the first day it could be imported into the US. Great phone but a bit stressed when playing full resolution video. With the Diamond and Pro2 available now with a guaranteed upgrade path to WM 6.5, and with 1GHz Snapdragon based capacitive touchscreen units TBA from HTC, why would Sprint step back a generation?

Because here in the US...we like to do that and stay FAR BEHIND the rest of the world when it comes to winmo devices.
We like our only main GSM carrier to continue and feed us the iPhone....

all i know is if the td2 is not going to be carried by sprint they better get a phone that is keyboard free that is better or equal to the tp2 and on top of that why wouldnt they pick up a phone that can work on the new 4g network whats the point of having that if no phone they carry can work on it i would love to get the hd wimax would be baller as hell
