Sprint Touch Pro 2 pricing

It hasn't been too much of a secret that we're expecting the Sprint Touch Pro 2 in the early part of September. We've already seen a direct ship date of Sept. 3, and now it looks like that's been pushed to Sept. 8, which could point to an in-store date of Sept. 13, if Sprint follows its MO of Sunday launches. Price is $599.99, before rebate and subsidy, we presume.

After the break, we look at a gem of a leak scored by bigchico68 at SprintUsers.com. (And thanks, aero, for the tip!)

Sprint Touch Pro 2

We're looking at the "Quick Reference Brief" (Rapidshare link) from Sprint, dated Aug. 10 and noting a "start date" of Sept. 8. In it is the usual fare, specs, Sprint-only services and the like.

World Phone capability is confirmed, meaning you can use it on GSM networks. It also will work on Japan's CDMA network.

Sprint Touch Pro 2

Also of note is a spec comparison chart, showing the Touch Pro 2 spec'd out for all for major U.S. carriers — interesting because while we've seen leaked phones from all four (Verizon, Sprint and AT&T), only T-Mobile has actually announced existence of the phone (and actually released it).

As you can see in the chart, the specs are identical, except the AT&T and T-Mobile versions appear to have Bluetooth 2.1 +EDR, compared to 2.0 +EDR for Sprint and Verizon. And throw in push-to-talk for AT&T. (Does anybody actually use that?)

Now's where it gets really interesting. Also compared are a couple of phones we saw in that massive AT&T leak that Engadget scored earlier this year — the LG Monaco and the HTC Warhawk (aka the Touch Diamond 2). The Reference Brief lists those phones as being on AT&T, so that could well firm that up. Or maybe Sprint's just been reading WMExperts.com. ;) Also, the Samsung Omnia II is listed on Verizon, which we're expecting.

We're getting close, folks. Just a couple more weeks.

wooooooooo excited to hear this news BUT if the retail price is $600 were looking at a $379 to $399 with a 2 tyear contract so im better off just getting the tp2 for tmo :/

Two things: I'll wait until Xmas when it's $199 at Best Buy, and will they force a plan switch like the Pre and Instinct?

"BUT if the retail price is $600 were looking at a $379 to $399 with a 2 tyear contract "

WAY WAY Wrong. Actually there have been sprint smartphones listed at $599 which sold with new contract or renewed contract for $99 and $199.

The retail list price has nothing to do with what the contract/renewal discounted price will be. That is more driven by whether the carrier has exclusive or competition for that handset. Everyone has the TP2. I am guessing $199 to 250./

The world phone note is definitely a huge plus. But is our Sprint version still butt ugly?

I really wish there was a TP2 release date for Verizon on that spreadsheet.

it is so stupid how this phones are so darn expensive! heres a question the iphone why is the iphone not as expensive as this smart phones? last time i check the iphone is it way better so why is it cheaper huh????

yikes...

am i the only one who sees this phone as a mobile (workplace) extension, and should be used as such? you're right, it's not as expensive as the iphone...but it surely wasn't designed to BE AN IPHONE. if you want singing apps and $150 monthly bills, the iphone's all yours...

I totally agree as for it being used as a workplace extension. I know the network administrators at my office had no problem with me using my XV-6800 on the network nor will they have a problem with this.

Point is that this phone is a business device first and not a device pretending to be one.

Why is it that a 16GB iPod Touch costs $299.99 while a 16GB iPhone 3GS costs $199.99? It's because it'll cost AT LEAST an additional $1,680 + taxes and fees to use the iPhone.

So, when comparing a cost of one device to another, we have to consider the TOTAL cost of ownership. In this case, we have to consider the price difference in plans, what the plans include (messaging), and the different capabilities of each device (TP2 can multi-task; iPhone can play rented movies).

Regarding Sprint's TP2, I believe that I'd be just fine w/o a keyboard if I had a 3.6" screen. Hopefully, I'll get to find out (crosses fingers while hoping for a Sprint equivalent of Verizon's Whitestone).

I forgot to mention that I remember reading that at&t customers that weren't eligible to upgrade would have to pay $599 for the 16GB iPhone so this price isn't any different than the iPhone's (if what I read was true).

FYI iPhones have been $99 to $150 at Best Buy.

You can't compare an iPhone to an HTC offering. You and I may think, even correctly, that a Pro 2 is more powerful and useful, but brand value matters. That is why ATT can charge more than Sprint, why Apple can charge more , why Tiffany's can charge more than Kay jewelers, why Accura can charge more than Kia, etc.

Sprint has been unable to charge anywhere near ATT and Verizon for a reason. Their brand name is trash. Sprint will not be able to charge anything near iPhone prices for any HTC just as they were unable to for the Pre.

You also may want to cosnider that iPhone is an exclusive, whereas HTC Touch Pro is looking to be shotgunned to every carrier

I really really REALLY hope that Q4 date for the Omnia II is bad intel.

This phone will sell for $299 after $100 mail in rebate with a 2 year contract or contract renewal. The regular touch was also listed at $599 and so was the Mogul.

As I noted there are other Sprint smartphones which have listed for $599 whcih sold for $199 initially and even others marked down to $99 from list of $599 after six months.

As far as I know competitors were not offering the regular touch for $149 when sprint was selling or for $299. Competitors have been selling the touch pro 2 already for $149 to $200!

Is there a difference between Bluetooth 2.1 +EDR/2.0 +EDR?

Yes. It's 0.1 more. :) #thisisspinaltap

Look for the Touch Pro price to drop to $149 and the Diamond to $99

lol, business channels have been selling Sprint touch pro for $79

The Sprint Touch Pro is discontinued already. The stores have taken down displays and little remaining stock returned to Sprint where the day the Touch Pro 2 is announced for sale the old ones get sold to Assuron for replacements.

i think honestly sprint version looks better then the tmo one and it looks closer to the european version and it seems to have more curves dont get me wrong i already tried out the tmobile and its amazing but sprint has better 3g coverage in my area

The consensus is that the Sprint version looks worse. The back of the Sprint version is strange and a lint/crud magnet, dozens of holes where you hands hold it and you put it down will crud up and be difficult to clean.

Does anyone know If they will force a plan switch like the pre and instinct? Cause it does have wifi

WIFI, you mean like Treo 800w, treo pro, touch pro etc?

They have never forced a plan switch on windows mobile phones with wifi.

I wish they had the sense to simply keep the phone looking like the European model. It was great-looking. The wild colors are a very dumb idea. I hope whoever said Best Buy would have a better discount is right because I'm ready for mine!
