Sprint Treo Pro: Delayed to Feb 15th--even more confirmed.

Update: MobilityToday got their hands on the above sheet to confirm our earlier post.

So after Sprint's trigger-happy posting of the Treo Pro, we received word from Sprint on the snafu:

"Sprint inadvertently posted information on Sprint.com regarding an upcoming product, Palm Treo Pro, this morning. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. Sprint looks forward to welcoming this exciting, new device into our portfolio as soon as it has been approved through our customary testing process. We will share details on the correct availability date as soon as the standard testing of both the device and its interaction with our network has concluded. Thank you for your interest in Sprint products."

And now we're hearing that the release date has been pushed back to Feburary 15th.  This makes sense if they still need to finish testing and make possible changes to the radio/ROM.  It also coincides with the rumored Palm Pre release date, which we now think may be a confusion with the Pro ;-)

We suppose your orders will continue to be on "backorder" till this is resolved.  We'll keep you posted if we hear anything different.

We can also now confirm memory: 128mb RAM/512mb ROM; but out of that only 42mb RAM and 360mb ROM is available for use.  This puts the Treo Pro's RAM pretty low in comparison to other WM devices, including the Pro's GSM cousin who has 70mb RAM available.

Thanks dannzeman, entropism & Codyppc!

Treo Pro, Palm Pre ... What's the difference? ;)
lol Throw in a Touch Pro and you just blew a Sprint CS rep's mind...

One of our editors, Geoff Farinha at Mobility Today has a Sprint Treo Pro in his hands. He confirmed ~80MB RAM after reset, and it will be on sale January 25th at Best Buy Mobile.

@uprey, It has 80mb "available" after a soft reset, but that's not really important because the OS then requires another 37mb to run, bringing the amount of "Free" RAM down to 42mb...that last number is the only one that really matters.

well i still think its jumping the gun to say Feb 15th and mention reflashing and testing. Obviously someone who writes at mobility today works at Best Buy and they have stock ready to sell 1/25. Its sounding more like another Sprint corporate muckup, just like the Touch Pro where Best Buy had it for a week or 2 before corporate stores.

@klmsu19, possibly but there are a few sources now confirming this (including Sprint employees)--reportedly some who call Sprint are being told something similar. True, caution is *always* warranted. Remember though, the Touch Pro was ready to ship to stores and then called back to be re-flashed--it was all detailed at ppcgeeks. I *do* find it odd that days before it is suppose to be on sale, it had not completed Sprint testing and certification? That's mighty close, no? Then again, maybe they just have to sign some papers and it's ready to go too...

Here's some more proof of the February 15th date:

Should that not read 128mb RAM/512mb ROM instead of 128mb ROM/512mb RAM?

The Pre and the Pro, both releasing the same date?

This is very odd...As soon as the Pro was placed on Sprint's website I ordered mine. I've been waiting since Thanksgiving for it to be released. So I ordered it and then it was delayed, The "Very Odd" part is that I got a call from customer service at Sprint stating that I will have my pro no later than Feb 2nd.

Interesting to say the least.

I went to Sprint store yesterday and the guy showed me the email he received from sprint on 3/3/09. Palm Treo Pro launch date is Sunday 3/15/09. WOOHOO!!! Also said the "PRE" is scheduled for 10/09. So I guess we shall see.

TPN

I have my Palm Pro and it is nice. still learning, but I love it, just wish I had a color option.
