I’d say this is a good opportunity for WM users to crow a bit about how much better using an Exchange server for syncing is - but Exchange servers can go down too. Nevertheless, it looks that US users of Blackberry’s email service didn’t get emails for awhile and that RIM is currently The BlackBerry wireless e-mail service from Research In Motion Ltd. appears to have suffered a widespread outage that started last night in the U.S.Customers on the BlackBerry Forums discussion board complained of having no service starting at about 5.15 p.m. PDT yesterday.Callers to the BlackBerry U.S. technical support line were still greeted with the following message early this morning: “We are currently experiencing a service interruption that is causing delays in sending or receiving messages.

The Blackberry is probably Microsoft's main competitor in the smartphone space -- but when it comes to corporate size doesn't hold a candle to MS (really, does anybody?). So when the stock option backdating brouhaha that's been sweeping the nation (er, *nations*, as RIM's based in Canada) hit RIM, analysts expected it would cause some headaches. Apparently that's not the case, though. I guess the scandal that hits everybody is the scandal that doesn't destroy anybody. Anyhow, the chairman is stepping down (but still the CEO) and RIM changed their report on the financial hit to what analysts were originally expecting (up from where it was before).
