Update: Mogul ROM Update to be Released Oct 22nd?

It is now being rumored from DaSuper, a Sprint employee, over at The Buzz that Sprint will be releasing it’s first major ROM upgrade for the Mogul this month that will hopefully address the serious BT issues that have plagued the Mogul since it’s release. There is a lot of hope this will be fixed (if the ROM is truly released) as the Alltel homegrown port of their ROM version of the their PPC-6800 seems to fix all the BT issues all of us Mogul users face every day.

Review: Extended Battery for Mogul

Any type of data connection (EVDO, 1x, or WiFi) will zap your battery in what seems like no time at all.  You may fall into this category and not even realize it, as this will also include any program that initiates a data connection on its own to download an update, i.e. weather plugin, news headlines, sport scores, stock prices, etc. Long and frequent phone calls are also a huge drain on the battery.  Having the screen on 100% brightness vs. keeping it at 50% can take several hours out of the life of a single battery charge by the end of the day.  For many, these factors can be managed to a point, but for a lot of us, we simply end up needing and using many of these things in our normal course of the day.  For most of us, our only choices end up being to stop using some of the things we would like to or need to use (which is sometimes simply impossible, i.e. email), keep a charger wherever we go (i.e. in the car, at home, in the office, etc.) but when traveling you simply may not have any place to charge it, or to get a battery with a larger capacity that can do more for a longer period of time.  Even a little boost can give that vital extra last hour in the day that you needed for those all important calls, emails, or text messages for work or home…. Physical Build= TESTING I used SPB Benchmark to test the battery capacity of both the HTC OEM original battery and the Seidio OEM Extended battery.  Before we review these test results, I want to cover what the insert in the package says: "Prior to inserting your battery into your phone, please allow 8 hours for an initial charging time.  *Performance will increase after 5-6 full charges" First of all, I made sure that both batteries were fully charged.  I used the same phone with the same activity and settings for each.  I did each test with 100% back light on the whole time while connected to WiFi, with push email enabled with a sound and vibrating email alert, and no phone calls or any extra usage.  TEST RESULTS So now I wanted to test against two factors….how the Seidio Extended Battery compared against the stock battery in the Mogul, and how the Seidio Extended Battery compared against itself from the first initial charge against the 7th full recharge.

Alltel Gets HTC PPC 6800

You can call it the Mogul, you can call it the UTStarcom XV6800, you can call it the Titan, or you can call it the PPC6800 — which is what Alltel settled on. Whatever you call it, it’s the premier slider Windows Mobile device right now - a title it will likely keep in the CDMA world for quite awhile (the AT&T Tilt will usurp it on GSM, natch). Alltel just snapped it up and so can you for $249 after rebates.

Qwest Beats Verizon to the HTC 5800, 6800 Punch

They’re calling it the “Fusion” and I appreciate that it has a name that matches its function (i.e. a fusion of a regular smartphone with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard). A Qwest Wireless today launched the HTC 5800 “Fusion,” a small candybar style smartphone with a numeric keypad on the front and slide-out QWERTY keyboard underneath.

Sprint's HTC Mogul (finally) released

Assets Images Phones Manufacturers Utstarcom Ppc6800 Ppc6800Sp 185 Yeesh! After a rumored delay, an "update" to June, and even a "in the wild" shot over the weekend, we can finally say it: The HTC Mogul has been released. As expected, it has really, *really* good specs:

Sprint PPC-6800 Watch: Now June?

First it was May, then it was leaked into the wild, then it was renamed the Mogul and delayed until October so it could ship with WM6. Now the latest rumor is that Sprint heard our wailing and gnashing of teeth about the delay and has moved the release up to just a couple of weeks from now. Now, the natural thing to do would be to head over to HTC's teaser site for the device to see what the real scoop it - but apparently that site now requires a user name and password. Weird.

Anyhow, we like the earlier release, even if it doesn't mean that it will have WM6 or Rev A EVDO right away

The latest projected launch timeframe for the PPC-6800 is now set for mid-June. While we (constantly and continuously) stress that these dates are estimates, and should not be considered as anything other than internal projections, it does appear Sprint has made considerable efforts to ship the PPC-6800 later this month.
