Alright, I've had it. Motorola, listen up: You are not HTC. If you want to be HTC, you need to crank out a ton of different form factors. Just because you can't develop a coherent naming strategy doesn't mean you're competing with HTC. It's just silly.

Moto is switching to Texas Instruments for their cell radios, primarily because of “business reasons.” I’d bet dollars to donuts that one of those “business reasons” is that Qualcomm is looking like they’re never going to get out We believe Motorola’s decision was purely business as our technical contacts had suggested many Qualcomm-based [third-generation] WCDMA designs in the pipeline and a general preference amongst Motorola designers for Qualcomm, despite the higher pricing. Our checks reveal that Motorola found Qualcomm “hard to do business with,” which we interpret as either too high-priced, or also having something to do with the royalty rates.

So much so, that I more often than not even forget I have it on between calls or while driving (I am embarrassed to even admit that twice I found myself looking for my H700 only to reach up a minute or two later to find it still on my ear!). Well Well, check out this little tibit from the TreoCentral Forums: A mention today in the 750 forum makes the third instance I have heard that the ATT WM6 upgrades are being held up by the delays of GMM 5.0.... However, since the GetGood functionality is part of ATT’s base ROM, and since GMM 4.x versions are supposedly incompatible with WM6, the whole shooting match is waiting on GMM 5.0 to be complete.

Officially listed as the unwieldy “* Motorola MOTO Q™ Music 9m Smartphone*,”, the Q9M doesn’t really offer any surprises (and with all the leaks, that’s to be expected).... The exclusive multimedia home screen together with the thumbwheel and center navigation key allows the user to maximize the V CAST Music experience while the standard home screen offers one–touch access to voice, email and Text messages.

It’s been a rough quarter for Motorola and the result is that they posted a loss of $28 million for the quarter. Of course, after saying “How do [Apple] deal with us?” The mobile unit also posted an operating loss of $264 million, compared with an $804 million gain a year earlier.Motorola’s third major segment, called Enterprise Mobility, saw a 42% jump in sales to $1.9 billion.
