The leaked BlackJack Windows Mobile 6 ROM AT&T Video Share enables one-way live streaming-video feeds that can beseen by both parties while they are participating in a two-way voiceconversation. Once the parties have initiated a Video Share call, eitherone can be the one generating the video stream for the other to see.

You could go searching for the leaked ROM for your 8525, but in my opinion, if you’ve waited this long, you may as well wait just a little bit longer. If the Just like the T-Mobile Dash Windows Mobile 6 Upgrade was leaked about a week before the real release, AT&T’s 8525 update has just been dumped onto the internet as well.

My duties there have mostly been relegated to the TreoCast The biggest deal is the addition of A2DP, though that couldn’t have been that hard since people have been hacking it onto the 700wx for awhile now. TreoCentral forum member hannip posted a download for Sprint 700w/wx users back in February and made lots of Treo owners very happy.

When I loaded the hacked Windows Mobile 6 ROM on there, I noticed something very, very odd. There was a new setting and a hidden application that kept loading itself in the background no matter what I was able to do, and it was called "Video Share." So today Mobility site points us to an AT&T announcement that this summer they'll be rolling out a real-time video sharing service. The page that displays compatible phones on the Video Share site doesn't list the Blackjack (yet!), but it does list two other Samsung phones. The fact that Samsung is on board with Video Share *and* the fact that there's a funny little "Video Share" application on my WM6-hacked Blackjack tells me it will be added to the list. It also makes me *strongly* suspect that my earlier doom and gloom about the Windows Mobile 6 date for the Blackjack was wrong. A late July release for Video Share bodes well for the new ROM that supports it on the Blackjack.

I thought that I was being pretty optimistic when I posted my expectations for the (apparently) upcoming Treo 800w, which I think is going to be nearly identical to the pictured 755p at right. But I'm not nearly as hopeful as a tipster who sent the following specs to Gizmodo:
Lots and lots of improvements for Sprint users over what they can get right now with the 700wx, including EV-DO REV A., Windows Mobile 6, a 320x320 display (now supported on WM6), 256MB flash, 128MB RAM, a 1.3-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, and an expansion slot.
Read: Palm Treo 800w Details Leaked: WM6, Wi-Fi, EV-DO Rev. A - Gizmodo
...Two bits. Bit #1: I still suspect that Verizon will get it first as it appeared on their roadmap and Palm likes to spread the exclusivity love around as much as possible. Bit #2: It would be nice to finally see Palm release a powerhouse device that included GPS and WiFi, but I seriously doubt it. I don't even expect Rev A., to be blunt. Sorry to be blunt, but I just don't believe that the hardware for the 800w will be that significantly different from the PalmOS Treo 755p. If I'm wrong, I'll be the first to combine a *hosanna* with a *mea culpa* - but I don't think I'm wrong. Now, Palm, quit letting all those carriers you work with leak out any more stuff about your upcoming products, I'm tired of writing about you today.

The internets 'asploded over the weekend with leaked pics and rumors of a new Palm device that *doesn't* appear to be a Treo - or at least not any sort of Treo that we know. First we saw a photo or two that looked pretty photoshopped, or at least pretty strange - these photos showed a PalmOS dialer (that says "Windows Mobile" on the top, scrunched down to fit on what's clearly a 240x320 screen. These were met with more than a little incredulity.
But then over at the TreoCentral Forums, CGK posted the photo you see at right, which looks quite a bit more legit. Witness: Vodafone logo (Palm released the first Treo 750v on Vodafone), Palm logo, and even a serial # in the upper right that indicates this is indeed some sort of pre-production model. Given that Palm is in love with touchscreens, a device like this is a bit of a surprise from them - would they even call it a Treo?
Would they admit that it's basically a year behind the rest of the pack (Looks like a Dash knock-off to me).

I didn't really expect anything important to happen at the Computex Conference in Taiwan, but Microsoft's Windows Mobile division is apparently just too prolific to let a conference slide by without giving us something to want.... It will include support for the new XML document format, which means it will only be As expected, the updated Office Mobile version (the name isn't clear yet - some sources say Office Mobile 2006 while others say Office Mobile 2007) will allow Windows Mobile devices to open documents created with the new Office 2007 XML formats.

Huzzah! Microsoft promised a WMDC patch in June and they've delivered. The Vista-only ActiveSync fixes that file sync bug but also looks to add some nice features as well. My #1 fav: "Automatic Device Authentication," as in "You can stop having to enter your #$@@#$ PIN every time you plug in your phone to your computer." Joy! WMDC 6.1 works with Windows Mobile 2003 and up.
This new version of the Windows Mobile Device Center contains key improvements and new features to support Windows Mobile 6 devices. The Windows Mobile Device Center 6.1 is only supported on Windows Vista.

The leaked ROM was taken off of the forum where I found it, which is unsurprising. I imagine that it wouldn't be too difficult to find with a little Googling, but here's the thing, I think I'm going to recommend against doing that. Not just because you'll be in sketchy legal territory, but also because the update process didn't go very smoothly - my Blackjack froze on the screen you see pictured here. I was worried I was going to have a thin little brick. Luckily, though, it came out ok after I removed the battery. There's not a lot of surprises here - it's Windows Mobile 6 on a Blackjack. I don't think it's the final update, though, as the boot time was very long and there were a few little strange spots in the settings (Hardware Rev0.0 -- what!?).
So the verdict is: wait. I hope you won't have to wait long. In the meantime, you can stew by watching this quick little video of a Blackjack running Windows Mobile 6.

Windows Mobile Device Center is how Windows Vista wants to sync with your Windows Mobile device - it’s a leg up on the old ActiveSync program in pretty much every respect but one - file syncing doesn’t seem to work for you WM6 Standard Edition folks. Never fear, though, Brighthand is reporting that Microsoft feels your pain and will get WMDC fixed up Currently, Windows Mobile 6 users can synchronize files between PCs and smartphones with Active Sync 4.5.

The new launch of Hotmail wouldn’t normally be a big deal, but for Windows Mobile 6 users it just might be - the “New Live Hotmail” offers free push email and other OTA syncing for personal use. That’s actually pretty exciting to me, as it means I can get my business email pushed out via Exchange and my personal email pushed out via Hotmail (that is, if I want to change my personal email address yet again).

You'll need to, you know, actually *own* one of the above devices and register it in order to get the download. It's nice to see companies offering this update, *especially* for free. Sorta makes you wonder why HP is being so miserly about WM6. Seriously, WM6 is able to run on any device that's powerful enough to run WM5, I'd think that customer goodwill alone should be enough to convince any company to offer the upgrade. Kudos to E-TEN for offering it earlier than most.

It’s just that HP hates us. I can’t think of any other explanation, because the one that HP cites, quoted from the unwired below, just doesn’t hold water. Ok, The computer giant cited “the potential for long delays, as well as possible carry-over costs” to its customers as reasons for this decision.

Looks like Dash owners will have something to crow about for a long time: Windows Mobile 6. PocketNow is reporting that the BlackJack won't see the update until "after June." Let's hope that Samsung is using the extra time to get their Carousel interface working on it, because it's looking like the folks working on porting it directly are having a difficult time of it.

Malatesta, who's also a superstar in our own forums, has a post up over that PPC Geeks detailing how to get the WM6 version of office on WM5. In other words, those of you who aren't lucky enough to have an upgrade on the way may still be able to get your edit on. Docs To Go is still probably a better option for you (or at least a less legally-murky option), however. In any case, WM6 and WM5 are so similar that this isn't likely the last time we'll see WM6 "exclusive stuff" show up on WM5 devices.

Ah, the best thing about waiting for carriers to offer ROM updates isn't the actual official release, it's the leaking that happens beforehand. As Jimmie says below, it probably makes sense to just wait a bit as the official update is expected this week. But if you're not that sort, a bit of Googling should net you the update pretty quickly. In the meantime, you can check out them pretty WM6 screenshots.

soared nearly 5 percent Friday, after the company posted a 65 percent jump in third-quarter profit, boosted by sales of its new Windows Vista operating system and Office 2007, and by upgrade coupons issued over the holidays.... The quarter saw the release of Windows Mobile 6, and Microsoft expects to see an increasing number of Windows Mobile 6 powered devices coming to market through the rest of this year…well, it is a new product.

There’s been some noise over the weekend and early this week about the Motorola Q9h, so let’s take a gander. First up, AT&T should be releasing the beast in August: If you take the word of one of BGR’s top informants, then yes, the Motorola Q 9h will launch on AT&T in August.
