Review: Samsung OEM Leather Top Pouch

Posted on Tuesday, Apr 14, 2009 by Tim Ferrill

Sometimes it seems like the search for the perfect case for my phone never ends. In some ways that is true, partially because of the variety involved in life. In some situations I want one type of case, and in other situations a different form factor may serve me better.

Typically cases fall into one of two categories; either designed for one specific device, or designed to fit a wide range of sizes and shapes. Samsung’s OEM Leather Top Pouch is somewhere in the middle. This case is designed for Samsungs stable of front facing Qwerty keyboard phones. These include some of the more popular Windows Mobile devices around in the Blackjack, Blackjack II and the Epix. Priced at a relatively competitive $17.95, it’s worth a look for anyone who has one of these quality devices permanently affixed to their person.

Blackjack II vs. Motorola Q9h, Redux

Posted on Tuesday, Aug 12, 2008 by George Ponder

Image One-7

WMExperts has reviewed the Motorola Q9h, we've taken a close look at the BlackJack II, we've even already had one smackdown between the two devices. Still, the Q9h and the BJII are the top two WM Standard devices on AT&T and plenty of folks may still be considering one or the other. In my case, I've moved from a BlackJack II to a Motorola Q9h after a bit of thought and a bit of pressure from Dieter.

So I'm in the process of moving from the Blackjack II to the Motorola Q and One thing is for certain, I can't stand having to reload all the third party software and finding all the unlock codes that are scattered about my email. Note to self: organize these codes better. While I've got my hands on both devices, I thought I would offer my observations of these two Windows Mobile devices.

To hear more about these two devices, read on!

One of the more popular styles of cases floating around these days is the horizontal or lateral cases. They ride close to the hip and for the most part are less bulky than vertical cases.   Picture 1-21   What does a SCUBA diving suit company have in common with a cellphone?  Not much unless the company is Body Glove.  Founding in the early 1950’s, Body Glove manufactured and designed dive suits.  In 1995, Body Glove started using the same neoprene material that made their wetsuits successful to make cell phone cases.  Their latest is the Body Glove Silicone Protective Case ($24.95).

I put the case to the test with my Samsung BlackJack II.  Read on to see if it represented Body Glove well.

While skin cases are the more economical, basic means to protect your phone, the metal case may be the sturdiest means. Monaco manufactures a clam-shell, aluminum case that comes in silver or black - the Monaco Aluminum Hard Case for BlackJack II ($24.95). The case comes with a removable lug that can be screwed into the back and used with a belt swivel-clip. If you prefer pocket carry, the lug is removed to provide a smooth backing to the case.

Blurry

You see them just about everywhere. You can find them at sporting events, graduations, parties, church socials, school events and just about anything deserving of a picture. It’s the person with their camera phone in action. Years ago it was the video camera popping up everywhere but they seem to be well out numbered by camera phones these days.

But are these tiny digital cameras worthy of such excitement? Are they more of a novelty than a legitimate camera? Many are VGA quality (about .3 megapixels) and have plastic lenses that are scratched or smudged with a greasy thumb print that enter the photography arena handicapped by design. Advancements in technology have pushed these tiny cameras along the evolutionary path but can they go beyond their novelty and become a convenient alternative to a stand-alone camera?

Read on for a history of your Camera Phone, how it works, and pointers for taking better shots!
