Review: Jawbone Icon Bluetooth headset

Posted on Tuesday, Mar 2, 2010 by George Ponder

The Jawbone Bluetooth headsets from Aliph have been around for a few years now and have impressed many with their noise cancellation features. The original Jawbone would eventually be succeeded by the Jawbone Prime.

Aliph recently released the Jawbone Icon, a chopped down version of the Jawbone Prime, to bolster their line up. The Icon comes in an assorted colors and styles ranging from black dimpled to gray smooth to gold. Each with its own unique nickname (Hero, Rogue, Ace, Thinker, Bombshell, etc.)

We had the chance to take one of the Icons -- the Hero -- out for a test drive and just ease on past the break to see if the Icon lives up to standard its larger siblings established.

Review: Motorola H17 Bluetooth Headset

Posted on Thursday, Dec 3, 2009 by Tim Ferrill

Motorola H17 - Profile View

With Christmas just around the corner, you may be looking for a headset for someone on your shopping list. If you haven’t checked it out already, take a look at the WMExperts Store Holiday Gift Guide. One of the products on the wish list of the illustrious Dieter Bohn is Motorola’s H17 Bluetooth Headset.

Motorola has been making headsets for a long time, and its product line includes some pretty impressive options. The H790 and the H15 are both solid headsets that we’ve reviewed in the past. The H17 takes a lot of design cues from the H15, most obviously the hinged boom microphone that doubles as a power switch.

Hit the link for my thoughts on the H17.

Review: Motorola H790 Bluetooth Headset

Posted on Friday, Oct 30, 2009 by George Ponder

Bluetooth headsets are getting thinner, smaller and lighter and Motorola has done a good job keeping pace with this trend in the Motorola H790. Measuring in at 2 inches long by 0.8 inches wide and 0.3 inches high, the H790 weighs a paltry 0.34 ounces.

But looks aren't everything.  Follow the break to see if the H790 is just another pretty face amongst the many Bluetooth headset or if its performance compliments the sleek design of this Bluetooth headset.

Review: Samsung WEP870

Samsung WEP870 - Profile View

With all of the choices that technology gives us, sometimes the differences between one device and another get blurred. This statement is especially true with the proliferation of Bluetooth headsets. Most headsets follow a similar shape and offer similar features, so it can be difficult to discern the pros and cons of a particular product.

The flip side of this argument is that when a manufacturer releases a headset that breaks the mold and brings a new form factor and/or groundbreaking features, it comes as a breath of fresh air to those of us who follow the market closely. I would like to welcome to the world: Samsung’s WEP870. What is it about this headset that sets it apart from a world full of pretenders and lookalikes? Hit the jump to find out.

Review: GlobalSat BT-368i Bluetooth GPS

Posted on Monday, Aug 31, 2009 by Tim Ferrill

GlobalSat BT-368i - Profile View

We’re quite spoiled you and I. Can you imagine if twenty years ago someone had shown you the very device you currently carry and use on a daily basis? Being able to instantly communicate using all manner of methods provided by the most mundane of Windows Mobile Phones is simply an amazing example of technology. As generations of Windows Mobile devices pass by there are new and improved hardware toys that become fairly standard in each generation. GPS receivers are an example of a feature that many of us take for granted that is one of the more amazing pieces of consumer technology.

All of this being true, GPS receivers are not included in all of the Windows Mobile devices that we carry around. Even if it is included, getting a radio signal to and from those satellites drains a battery like few other things can. For those of you facing these dilemmas, I present the GlobalSat BT-368i Bluetooth GPS receiver.

Review: Jabra BT2080

Jabra BT2080 - Front View

The Bluetooth headset market is at the point where it gets very hard to determine what headset fits your needs perfectly. Price, build quality, fit/comfort and sound quality all come into play when shopping for your headset.

A quick search of this site will reveal numerous reviews of Jabra headsets, all with different advantages. But let's not forget the entry-level headset. Inexpensive products with quality features can be hard to come by in a space dominated by expensive devices loaded with features that many people would never use. Jabra’s BT2080 falls in this niche, offering a headset for $39.95.

To see what features are offered in this little headset, follow the link.

HTC Twin at the Bluetooth SIG

We broke the news on the HTC Tachi (aka the Twin) back in May, and it's now made an appearance at the Bluetooth Special Interest Group. [via wmpu]

We're still expecting this middle-of-the-road Windows phone to only be available on China's Dopod network (though obviously the July time frame's not gonna happen). So don't look to see it in the U.S. anytime soon.

Admit it, you do it. You talk on your phone in your car. No headset, no speakerphone. One hand on the wheel, the other on your smartphone. For shame.

Review: Motorola MOTOROKR S305

Posted on Saturday, Aug 1, 2009 by Tim Ferrill

Motorola S305 - Front View

The quest continues. I’ve tested Bluetooth Headphones from Sony, Jabra and a couple from Motorola; all of which have pros and cons. The perfect Bluetooth headphones for me would be comfortable to wear for an extended period of time while having the weight distributed in a way that would allow for activity without having wires running different directions.

Motorola has made a number of successful Bluetooth  headphones. The S9 model and its successor, the S9-HD both insert into the ears with a band that wraps behind the head. The S7 model has a slightly different design with only a wire going behind the head and the earpieces hooking over the ear. Motorola’s S305 are my next target and is something of a cross between the two form factors. Featuring an over-the-ear design combined with the wrap-around style, the S305 combines some of the best features in each of Motorola’s other models.

All the juicy details are after the break.
