CTIA Day 2: Living Proof

Day two consisted of walking the show floor to see what we could see. Sadly, there's wasn't anything earth shattering. Here's the first bit of non-earth-shattering rumor confirmation: LG is indeed a new manufacturer of Windows Mobile phones. The proof is in the image on the right - a simple prototype of a WM6 device that we weren't allowed to touch. The casing: surely not what will finally come to be. In fact, pretty much all we've learned from this is that LG is capable of slapping together a WM prototype.

Whatever the final product is, let's hope it's as sexy as the Prada:

More images and CTIA news (including our thoughts on Microsoft's part of today's Keynote speech) after the jump.

When you're starting a new site you want to build up a great community of readers and of folks who post great stuff to your forums. Imagine my bliss when gadgetluva submitted this review (which is after the break and which you must read) then, it almost makes up for the downtime we experienced on Friday and over the weekend (sorry about that, by the way). Best of all, gadgetluva isn't addicted (like I am) to putting parentheses everywhere.

So grab a cuppa'joe and settle in for a comprehensive smackdown between the current big players on AT&T/Cingular after the break.

The fine folks at Gizmodo have broken down by phone whether or not you should upgrade to "the best Windows Mobile phone out right now." I might honestly be inclined to agree with that assessment, but as for the upgrades, I'm less sure I'm with 'em. Sure, if you're still stuck in featurephone land and want a smartphone, this is a great way to go. But sometimes small ain't so bad. Right? Right?

Ok, I want one.

T-Mobile MDA, Verizon/Sprint 6700, Cingular 8125: Upgrade if you can afford it. This is where it gets both tricky and interesting. The 8525 runs the same OS as its predecessors—also known as the HTC Wizard—and thus, have all the same apps and can do pretty much the same things. They all have WiFi, a slide-out keyboard, and touch-screen capabilities. So why would you upgrade? Because it's what the old version should have been.
