If you're the kind of person who just has to wait for official fixes to come out, well, fine. We understand. And official fixes are starting to trickle out for the 2016 SMS bug that we helped bring to light.

HTC has hotfixes for the Sprint Touch Diamond and Touch Pro that in all liklihood do the exact same thing our workaround does. But if you need the HTC stamp of approval, well, here you go.

Edit: The links to the CAB files are being squirrley, so just use the ones above.

Edit 2: Odd. Now the HTC pages are borked. Hang in there, guys.

AT&T Tilt 2 and Pure get hotfixes

Posted on Saturday, Dec 19, 2009 by George Ponder

We've stumbled across two hotfixes for the AT&T Tilt 2 and Pure. The first fix addresses inconsistent caller id functions and the second where the Windows phone freezes in the SMS application.

Both fixes are not ROM updates and will not cause you to lose your data. HTC notes that these fixes will survive a hard reset and will only need to be installed once. Do note that the fixes might not load if you're running a custom ROM. Stock AT&T only, it looks like.

The fixes for the Tilt 2 can be found here and for the Pure here. It appears that these issues are present only in the AT&T models so Sprint, Verizon and T-Mobile users need not worry.

Original Sprint Touch Pro gets ROM update; Snap gets boot-up hotfix

For those of you rocking the original HTC Touch Pro on Sprint, and we know there are plenty of you out there, an official ROM update was recently released. Here's what you get:

  • TouchFlo 3D updated to improve speed and stability.
  • Dialer application enhanced to improve the handling of incoming calls.
  • Resolves an issue using the “r” and “w” keys on the virtual keypad.
  • Improves contact searching performance.
  • Includes a variety of minor bug fixes.

This is a full-on ROM update, so be sure to back up all of your important data first because the device will be wiped in the process.

Also, HTC has released a hotfix for the Sprint Snap that "is designed to correct and prevent a memory block issue that can cause the Sprint Snap to lock up or freeze during boot up."

This one's merely a hotfix, like loading an app. That means your data should be safe (though we'd recommend a backup first, just in case), and you'll need to reload this fix should you ever hard-reset the Snap.

HTC Touch Diamond 2

Hey, we're all about fixing problems with ROMs, especially problems that creep up in the first month or so. But three hotfixes now for theEuropean Touch Diamond 2? Thanks, mates, for breaking it in for those of us in the states. But we digress.

Apparently this fix tackles SMS notifications not giving an audio alert if the phone is in standby mode. Yeah, that's kinda a biggie.

So, to recap, with links to the fixes:

As always, back up your data first, just in case. And if you have to hard-reset your phone, you'll have to reapply these hotfixes. Hopefully they'll be cooked into a ROM at some point.

Hotfix released for HTC Touch Diamond 2

If you happen to be rocking an HTC Touch Diamond 2 already – either you're outside the U.S. or are an impatient American who imported – there's a hotfix available that's really more of a hidefix.

See, there's a "Start Recording" option that, well, doesn't really work, and so this hotfix just plucks the option from the phone. That said, there appears to have been some progress toward actually making it work. The legality of recording calls varies depending on where you live, so play with caution.

Or to avoid temptation entirely, just apply the hotfix, which you can get here.

Touch HD gets a hotfix for audio problems

HTC Touch HD

For those of you lucky enough to be rocking an HTC Touch HD, there's a hotfix out there that fixes audio skipping during music playback. The fix applies only to ROM version 1.59.XXX.X or lower.

And as with any hotfix, you'll have to reapply it if you hard-reset your phone. But that's a small price to pay for actually having a Touch HD, which never set official foot on U.S. soil.

Go get the hotfix here.

Touch Diamond 2 gets a couple of hotfixes

Two hotfixes for the Touch Diamond 2 in less than a week? That's it. Mine's going in the garbage.

Just kidding, folks. Stay out of my trash. Actually, we're more inclined to take the glass-half-full route here. Hotfixes mean HTC has acknowledged problems and has fixed them. Here's what's been addressed:

  • Hotfix No. 1 (5-22-09): If you move to the Settings tab in TouchFLO, the top part of the item descriptions under Communications (WiFi, Bluetooth, phone, data) are slightly cut off. If this happens, please download this hotfix to solve the problem.
  • Hotfix No. 2 (5-25-09): If you can’t dial out but can receive calls through the PCCW network when roaming in HK, please download this hotfix to solve the problem.

Obviously, these are for non-U.S. versions of the phone because, well, we don't yet have a U.S. version of the phone. (And note that the second fix only is necessary when you're in Hong Kong.) And as with all hotfixes, you'll have to re-apply them if you hard-reset your phone. Hopefully we'll see these baked into a ROM update at some point.

And speaking of fixes, a GPS fix also was released for non-U.S. versions of the Touch Pro. You can get it here.

Epix 'slog dump' hotfix both dumps and slogs

Sometimes the cure can be worse than the disease, and that appears to be the case for some Samsung Epix owners. AT&T recently made available a hotfix (you have to call to get it, and then it's pushed to your phone) that fixes the "Slog Dump" problem, which looks like this. That's all fine and good, but apparently people are having major issues with the radio after applying the hotfix.

What about you folks out there in TV Land? Having the same problems?

Touch Diamond gets hotfixes for audio skipping, reminder repeats

TouchDiamondHTC has released a couple of hotfixes for the original Touch Diamond that should take are of a couple of annoying bugs. (As opposed to the bugs we like, I guess.)

The first hotfix takes care of problems a number of people were having with audio playback skipping.

The second involves the Sounds and Notifications settings, specifically that you couldn't uncheck the Repeat Reminders option. So, apply this fix, and all should be well.

Note that these are hotfixes and not a full-on ROM update. Hotfixes install just like any other program. So if you hard-reset your phone at some point, you'll need to reapply the hotfixes or risk having the problems again.

Tilt Gets Backlight Hotfix

HTC-Kaiser-att-Tilt-1.jpg

You HTC Tilt owners should have received text messages recently stating, “AT&T Free Msg: Get more out of your wireless device by downloading windows mobile 6.1 update. Download from http://www.america.htc.com/Tiltupdate on your PC” but just what was it they want us to download? Is it the infamous 6.5 or maybe they wanted us to get more out of our wireless device by giving us built in push email like it should be. Nope, none of the above. What they did do is fix that pesky backlight screen of yours.

A problem a lot of Tilt owners were experiencing was when the backlight timer would automatically revert to the default after ten seconds. So that means if you set it for two seconds or a minute, it would still go dark after ten seconds. Not a critical issue, sure, but annoying.
