Find your way with the O2 XDA Guide

We're not likely to see this in the U.S. anytime soon, but the HTC Iolite is headed to O2 in Germany as the XDA Guide, with a pretty big focus on navigation (natch), but no major surprises.

What's under the Diamond-esque hood:

  • Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional.
  • Qualcomm 7225 processor at 528 MHz.
  • Quad-band EDGE/dual-band HSPA.
  • Bluetooth 2.0 w/EDR.
  • WiFi b/g.
  • aGPS.
  • 256MB RAM/512MB ROM.
  • MicroSD.

Missing from the OS is TouchFLO 3D, with the phone instead sporting the less intensive TouchFLO 2D. Making up for that, however, is the "Footprints" button, which lets you take photos directly from the TouchFLO interface. If GPS is available, location information can be tagged to the photo, as can some comments. TomTom navigation software also is on board and has a dedicated hardware button.

HTC Iolite Pops Up Again, Is It a Cruise Replacement?

We've already seen the Iolite in low-res and again saw it confirmed in even lower-res in that gargantuan HTC devices leak.  Looks to us as though of all the devices in that massive cache, the first to arrive just might be the Iolite.  Why's that?  Well another image has popped up (via coolsmartphone) that confirms we're looking at a Windows Mobile 6.1 Pro with TouchFlo 3D.  We're seeing some clearer specs as well:

  • Qualcomm MSM7225, 528MHz
  • 512MB ROM, 288 RAM
  • 2.8 Inch, 240x320 screen (really?)
  • 3.2mp camera
  • MicroSD
  • Quad-band EDGE, 3G
  • Bluetooth, Wifi
  • 1100 mAh battery good for 400 minutes of talktime
  • 102mmx53.5mmx14.5mm
  • 103 grams

We're not sure, but the above specs seem like a pretty clear indication that we're looking at a Euro-only replacement for the HTC Cruise.  We're seeing a similar scrollwheel/d-pad and also a new button -- the "HTC Footprints button," which smells like a dedicated GPS button to us.  The Cruise, you may recall, was marketed primarily as a GPS Device.  With a dedicated GPS-esque button on the Iolite and the similar form factor, we're guessing that the Iolite is aiming at the same niche.

HTC's Entire 2009 Lineup Apparently Leaked

Well this is going to take the wind out of HTC's sails a bit for whatever they were going to unveil at Mobile World Congress in a couple months.  See, images marked "DIYPDA.com" (re-posted by user Arlen of PPCGeeks and via Modaco and wmpoweruser) have cropped up -- a full twenty five photos of upcoming HTC devices. We have the full gamut here, from the HTC Iolite (previously seen) to stuff we've been waiting for for quite awhile, like the above HTC Mable, which looks to be the long-awaited 3G update to the Excalibur/T-Mobile Dash.

We have the Twin, Topaz, Rhodium, quite a lot.  There's everything from WinMo Standard Messaging devices to black slabs to sliders, and they all look good.  Darn near every carrier is represented too.

More after the break

Iolite: Another Gem from HTC?

While the news of a new HTC device, the S743, is still hot off the press, another Windows Mobile phone from the Taiwanese manufacturer has been spotted: the HTC Iolite.

The Iolite is very similar to the Touch Diamond's form factor but with a more rounded look. The Iolite sports a 2.8" WQVGA display, a 3.2 megapixel camera, 512mb ROM, 228mb RAM, a microSD expansion slot, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, and the typical HTC Windows Mobile features.

It is a TouchFlo 3D device and, for now, the radio is European focused (doesn't support U.S. 3G networks). No word on pricing or availability, but it is anticipated that the Iolite will be "officially" unvieled at next month's Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

(Update: Yep, it's Iolite with an i, sorry about that)
