BlueTrek BIZZ Review: MicroSD + BT?

Here's a twist on the seemingly endless supply of Bluetooth headsets: when not in use, have it double as a microSD USB flash drive.

Eh? Sounds pretty cool, right? Just pull off the back and stick'er into your nearest computer friend and you have your BT friend doing double duty -- not to mention getting charged.

Sounds good and in principle it's a great idea. Unfortunately, the BlueTrek's Bizz ($79.95) headset gets the principle without really delivering on the details.

Wanna know why? Read on for the biz on the BIZZ (puns are free on Thursdays around here)

128GB MicroSD Cards Coming...in 2011 :-/

Sure 16GB microSDs are just launching now, but why not plan for the future? Like the way, way future.

Sandisk said that they are working and planning on launching a whopping 128GB version but not for another 3 years.

Which begs all sorts of questions like:

  • Will microSD actually be relevant in 2011?
  • What the heck will the mobile industry even look like in 2011?
  • Why tease us so?

Well hey, best of luck to you Sandisk. If I'm still alive in 3 years, I look forward to porting my giant collection of NSFW materials to my WM8 device.

XPERIA X1 To Use MicroSD After All

XPERIA X1

As surur notes in our forums, the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 won't be using the hateful, proprietary, Sony-Only Memory Stick format. It'll use microSD, like a proper smartphone should, assuming that the updated spec sheet is to be believed.

Surur also notes that the X1 might actually be running “Windows Mobile 6.5,” contrary to screenshots showing Windows Mobile 6.1 on the device. Either way, though, the switch to mircoSD means that, basically, the only thing keeping me from owning this device is cruel, cruel time.

I am always losing those SD Adapters for my MicroSD cards, which are required to be used with most card readers.  So I decided to try the Mobi Products Plug-in SD and microSD Reader ($14.95) because it supports several different cards including a dedicated MicroSD slot!! Not only is this one of nicest looking card readers I have owned, it even held more surprises that I originally thought.

It's been awhile since I've written about an accessory, but today something I recently acquired has totally saved my keister. It's the Kingston 1GB adapter pack - which is just a microSD card (1gb in this case) with an adapter to miniSD and standard SD.

Switching between phones is a huge hassle and it gets even bigger when you factor in a memory card swap. My preferred solution is to just keep everything on the smallest card possible and then use one of these adapters to plug it into whatever phone I'm using at the moment (or into my digital camera). One card means I know where my data is all the time and that makes me a happy camper.
