Review: Plantronics Voyager Pro

Plantronics Voyager Pro - Outside View

One of the more competitive segments in the Bluetooth Headset market is that of the premium headset. Jawbone, BlueAnt, Plantronics and Motorola are just a few of the heavyweights vying for the top spot; throwing the best technology they have into making the best products they can come up with. The way that these companies go about building a product that is head and shoulders above the rest of the industry varies. Some aim for a simple headset, with solid quality; while others try to pack as many features into a small package as possible.

Plantronics’ Voyager line has produced some amazing Bluetooth headsets through the years. Their Voyager Pro headset is a simple, straightforward design that is light on extra features and heavy on quality for a decent price of $89.95. With arguably as much or more experience in designing and building headsets as any other company, Plantronics has the expertise to really make a strong push the have one of the top headsets in the world.

As more Bluetooth headsets are released into an already crowded market, the distinctions between the various choices start to become fuzzy. In a situation like this, there are a couple of concrete factors that offer a huge amount of insight into which product is the best choice for you; manufacturer and price.

Plantronics has become synonymous with quality headset for telephones and computers. Their products are used in call centers all over the world. The ever expanding line of Bluetooth capable products continues to push the envelope and offer a variety of quality goods to consumers. The Plantronics Voyager 835 is reasonably priced for a premium quality headset at $69.95 (at the WMExperts store, the MSRP from Plantronics is a less reasonable $119.95).

If you haven’t heard of Plantronics, chances are you’ve been living under a rock somewhere. For the two of you that haven’t heard of them, Plantronics has been making quality headsets since long before Bluetooth. Their experience has carried over from call centers worldwide to the world of mobile phones.

The Plantronics Voyager 520 ($59.95 from the WMExperts store) is billed as Plantronics’ successor to the Voyager 510. Targeted at business users who tend to stay on the phone for a large portion of their day, the 520 is sleek and comfortable. If you’re in the market for a professional looking headset that features exceptional voice quality, stick around. The Voyager 520 could be just the headset for you.

Review: Plantronics Pulsar P590E Bluetooth Stereo Headphones

Plantronics 590e

Have you ever wished that your MP3 player, Gameboy, or DVD player had BlueTooth (BT) so you could use a BT wireless stereo headset with it? I know I have. I first just originally wanted to review the Plantronics P590 Bluetooth (BT) stereo headset to use with my Sprint PPC-6800, but soon realized that the P590 can add BT capabilities to anything that has a standard sized earphone jack! Plantronics did not hold back with throwing in more extras in the box than I have ever seen, let alone would have even begun to imagine.

But of course, all the advanced features and add-ons mean nothing if the headset itself cannot deliver. To find out all the surprises that the Plantronics P590e Bluetooth Stereo Headphones ($74.95) offers that totally caught me off guard after I opened the box, and to see how well it actually does perform, read my review of this BT stereo headset that made me feel warm and fuzzy all over.

Mini-Review: Plantronics Voyager 855 Bluetooth Stereo Headphones

Posted on Tuesday, Dec 18, 2007 by Dieter Bohn

Above, a quick video detailing my thoughts on the Plantronics Voyager 855 Bluetooth Stereo Headset ($99.95). The Voyager 855 is a neat little headset and fairly versatile with two snazzy features. The first is that it has a slide-out boom microphone which also let you answer and hang up on phone calls. The second is that it comes with a specialized earhook attached to a 2nd headphone - turning it from a regular Bluetooth headset into an A2DP Bluetooth headset.

It's like the Jabra BT8010 (Reviewed here) but without the extra bulk.

It's an in-ear headset, but you can also attach an ear hook if you're paranoid unable to handle the in-ear bit. Sound quality was about average in my tests - nothing to write home about either way. Talk time is rated at 7 hours, standby at 160. So far I've used it for two days - about an hour of talking and an hour-and-a-half of music and I've yet to see the LED give me the warning blink.

There's the requisite bevy of supported standards, acronyms, and proprietary noise cancellations bits in here too: A2DP (for music), AVRCP (for controlling music), Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR (“Enhanced Data Rate”), AudioIQ for noise reduction, 11 grams, 15 grams with stereo bud, and so on.

Overall I'm going to give this little guy a 4 out of 5. It's only a little above average at both voice calls and at music playback - if you need something that excels at one or the other you may need to look elsewhere. For my needs, though, I appreciate that it's a great all arounder. The Plantronics Voyager 855 ($99.95) is currently my favorite Bluetooth headset.
